  1. Guys & gals I found a really nice old singer 29-4 in working condition. It's set up with 138 thread now. My couple questions are: Is this a good sewing machine? Can heavier thread sizes be used in it. Say a 277 thread or 346 thread? Could a servo motor setup be put on it reasonably? Are parts hard to find if needed? Hopefully some professionals can help me out & give me some answers. Thanks. Any & all help will be greatly appreciated.
  2. Thanks bladegrinder. I appreciate it. I'm slowing acquiring tools, so I'll put 1 on my list. I've heard that about all your oblong punches need to be tuned up from the factory. I'm a knife maker as well, & that's also where I've been spending money on equipment & such. Beautiful work you do. I enjoy seeing this type stuff. Thanks.
  3. Thanks @bladegrinder I appreciate it. Yeah ive been shopping for oblong/bag punches & they are not cheap. May I ask what size of punch you used on your pancake holster? Thanks. Outstanding work you do.
  4. Beautiful looking holster! Love the looks of it. Do you freehand cut your belt slots or do you use a bag/oblong punch? Thanks.
  5. I would start by checking the hydrualic oil, & yes colder weather could affect it because the oil gets thicker as it gets colder. The other thing I would check is if your machine has a hydrualic drive motor to hydrualic pump coupler. Idk have a clicker press, but a think them would be best the best places to start.
  6. Looks good. Really nice sheath you made.
  7. Yeah beautiful piece! Thanks for sharing with us. Great work.
  8. That is going to be sharp! Nice work you do.
  9. Looks great to me. I like how your makers mark almost blends in, yet pops. Looks real nice like.
  10. Nice looking holster. Looks great to me. Great work.
  11. I thought at 1st, that is what I would buy. But then got to doing some reading on the different machines & thought a 1 arm bandit is going to get old using. I kinda got this buy once / cry once mentality. Lmao just buy it & get it over with. Right?
  12. So are the throat plates & narrow feeders & presser feet a universal fit type thing? Or all these parts for only their dedicated machines? Are these feeder plates, & throat plates & presser feet available to do thin materials for the Cobra Class 4, Cowboy CB4500, & the Techsew 5100se? Thanks. I'm sorry for soo many questions & my newbie stupidity when it comes to these types of machines.
  13. Thanks kgg. I got a lot more reading to do. I'll keep doing my research about the different machines.
  14. Thanks yeah the tow strap would have lots of liability & it's more for myself. Truckers tarps not so much, but not 100%sure on that thou either. But you are correct if tow straps are to be repaired I'm sure there is a certification class that will need to be completed. I would like also to make some heavy weight canvas tarps/tents. I'm all new to the industrial machines, but is the Cobra Class 4, Cowboy CB4500 & the Techsew 5100se in the 441 class range? Thanks. I appreciate it.
  15. Ok thanks. I was figuring I could use a a/c vacuum pump. I was unsure on the vacuum bag/chamber to use. Oh I like pictures, so if you are allowed to post them, I would sure check them out. I thought about trying to use my kydex press on tooled leather for a retention/ fitted type holster. But I havent yet. Lol not sure what would happen. Thanks for sharing your work & knowledge with us all.
  16. Thanks Wizcrafts. I been lurking on & off for years on this site, but just recently joined. I appreciate your knowledge & help. Yeah I was looking at the Cobra Class 4 premium package & got the details all twisted around between the machines. I watched a bunch of videos & read about the Cobra class 4, Cowboy CB4500, & the Techsew 5100se & just wasnt sure what my best route was to go. I got $4500 for the budget for a machine. Plus what ever machine I buy for now, i would like to be able to sew soft lighter materials, short of maybe changing a few parts & adjustments to switch from light to heavy projects. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks bladegrinder. I appreciate the reply. May I ask roughly what it cost or what is needed, to get started in vacuum molding. Thanks again.
  18. Nice looking holsters. They look great! May I ask if you hand mold or vacuum mold your holsters. Thanks.
  19. Do they not offer eps on the cowboy cb4500? I was thinking the cowboy cb4500 premium package was $3395 for it. Then I thought the eps upgrade was a additional $500. Maybe I'm getting confused by all the bigger sewing machines I been looking & reading about. Lol. Thanks for everyones input & knowledge.
  20. Yeah from my reading the aluminum flatbed table is the way to go. I been trying to find & read all I can on the machines I'm interested in. Thanks appreciate your help.
  21. Ok thanks. I went to them links & must have overlooked the website/links for purchase of the extra accessories needed. Yeah I have been reading on this site, to get the aluminum flatbed attachment just because its simpler to remove & install. I appreciate the info/knowledge. Thanks.
  22. I'm also hoping to sew tow straps & truckers tarps & straps.
  23. Thanks I appreciate it. So where does a person purchase these modified presser feet & throat plates. I think the cb4500 w/eps premium package, might come with some different feet & throat plates. As well as a flat table attachment, but I'm not 100% sure.
  24. Great looking work! Looks sharp.
  25. I guess I should have mentioned I mainly use 277 or 346 thread on my heavy projects, when I saddle stitch. I'm hoping a 346 thread will feed thru whatever machine I buy easily. I think the lightest thread I have used is 138, i personally think the heavier thread looks better on certain leather projects.
