  1. Hi, Starting to look for machines to do leather bags and probably redo seats for my husband's 1980 911. I'm currently looking at a sewmo ck-563. I'm getting that this is some kind of juki clone, but not finding much literally with that brand. I'm a few hours away from the seller, he's asking $405 and has sent video of it sewing a piece of leather. I'm reading that this one should reverse? Is this something that would work for the applications that I'm looking for? Is that a good ballpark price or should I see if he has wiggle room? Anything else I should look for? I'm experienced, but with more domestic sewing...bags, quilting, and I do small scale production sewing for an Etsy seller - keyfobs on janome 1600p. I'm assuming that's going to struggle with auto upholstery, it does ok on bags but not having a free arm gets tricky and eventually struggles a teeny bit with too many layers. Thanks, excited to have found this group!
  2. I am looking to sell this Landis Aristocrat Model L outsole stitcher. It's in northern NJ for anyone who'd like to pick up -- but weighs nearly 800 lbs. (Unable to ship unless you arrange all of it including a pickup.) I'm looking to get around $600 for it. It works perfectly! My dad was a shoemaker but has since retired and doesn't need all his machinery. Hope someone here might be interested.
  3. Hi everyone! I'm Sam and I'm thrilled to be here. I've been lurking and reading the threads here for the last couple of months and the time has come to officially join the community. As a total newbie, I've been reading the stickied/older threads, trying to grapple with all the terminology that everyone here is so familiar with, but have found myself a little lost and in need of assistance. I'm hoping nobody minds if I ask some questions. First, a little background. I'm currently based in Dubai, having moved here for work just before the pandemic hit. I lost my job during the initial wave and started leather working as a way to deal with the stress of the situation. I have always loved leather, but never handled it before. I am teaching myself little bits at a time and still have a lot to learn, but I quickly became addicted to the craft! I'm sure many of you will know the feeling well! I've been making myself some small items using some 4-7ft leather pieces (from Etsy), a rivet press and some cheap rivets+snaps, leather belt hole punch, and contact cement. I've made 3 bags and a couple of card cases this way. A couple of those items were saddle stitched (using Youtube tutorials) but I quickly found that my hands can't take it (because I have rheumatoid arthritis), so I relied on contact cement and must say the stuff has been perfectly fine for my needs up until this point. Like many people, the pandemic has made me reassess my path and seek more joy. I've decided I'd like to start a small Etsy store selling purses and wallets. I'm aware that there's a ton of competition out there in this area, but I would like to spend my days running a modest operation and relishing in the joy of handcrafting unique items for others to enjoy. My designs have been unique (my own patterns) and I have had strangers comment on how beautiful my handmade bag was- which sent me straight to cloud 9! I have felt so excited, joyful and proud of my small creations and I'd like to lean into this passion project fully. Now onto the questions and issues I'm facing. I cannot picture selling items made with contact cement. I would have to stitch them for them to be worthy of other people's interest and money. However, I've never machine-stitched anything in my life! From my research, I have narrowed down the options for a sewing machine, but could use some input on which would be best suited to my needs and circumstances. Materials: - I'm using goat/lamb/chrome tanned leather and suede, ranging from 0.6mm-1.2mm in thickness. For some designs, I would need to stitch up to 3 layers of leather. - I'm using reinforcements/interfacing on the thinner leathers so they don't tear or stretch out when the bags are full. - I'm also lining my bags with thin microsuede fabric. Budget: I'm trying to save up to $2000 (usd) for my first leather sewing machine (including shipping). Machine options (based on the threads here): 1 - Techsew 2700 2 - Consew 260RB 3 - Juki 1541 + some sort of regular home sewing machine to stitch my linings and inner pockets- perhaps a Brother or Singer? *I've been reaching out to local suppliers but they're not forthcoming with information. Basically they say that I should decide what I want and then they'll let me know if they can source the machine. I also have the option of finding a supplier abroad who will ship internationally but the shipping cost would eat into my budget. ** I'm not including hand-crank machines due to my rheumatoid arthritis, however I'm willing to consider it if they're not as hard on the small joints as saddle stitching. Questions 1- Are the 3 options I've listed the correct ones for my needs? Is one preferable over the others? 2- I live in a small flat, but have enough space to set up desks/machines/shelves. However, I'm concerned about the weight of the machines and the amount of noise they make. Would any of these machines be an issue if used in a flat versus an outdoor studio/warehouse. Are they too loud to operate in a flat? I don't want trouble with my landlord or neighbors. 3- Is it difficult to set up these industrial machines without any prior experience? I'm planning to follow Youtube tutorials and/or any information provided by the supplier. 4- Franky, do you think I'm jumping in at the deep end and would be wiser, given that I know nothing about sewing machines, to use a basic domestic machine with a different head/needles for my leatherwork instead of investing in a proper leather sewing machine? Additional considerations: 1- My estimation is that the thickest total material I'll be stitching will be 4-5mm. Therefore, I would like to get a sewing machine that can easily handle 10mm so that I'm not having it cranking at its maximum capacity all the time. 2- I would like the option of a cylinder arm and flatbed attachment, as some of my designs have gussets and rounded corners. 3- I would like to buy a machine that would last me a few years before needing an upgrade, if possible. I don't think I want to learn/start on one machine, then have to buy a better one in 6 months' time as I won't be able to afford that. I'd rather learn from the get-go on the machine that will be my workhorse. Okay, I think that's everything! I hope it's not overkill, but I wanted to be as clear as possible so that I can be steered right. Thank you to anyone and everyone for your willingness to help us newbies out! I'm super excited to hear what will be recommended and to start my journey into this world properly. I hope to be able to share some of my work with you all soon!
  4. Hello Everyone, Here is a link to the first video in the Cobra Class 4 video series. Hope this helps and each week a new video gets posted. Setting up your Cobra Class 4 Sewing Machine
  5. I just ordered a Pfaff 1295 post bed but can't find information on what the best weight of nylon bonded thread is to use on this machine. Any recommendations? Thanks guys!
  6. Hello! I just got a Singer 31-15. The man who used it before me used it very well and it is in great condition! I changed out the belt and everything runs smoothly except for one thing. The straight stitches come out slightly slanted all uniformly. They're not all straight but in a weird diagonal line and I'm not sure why. It doesn't matter what fabric I use it always comes out this way. Does anyone know how I can fix this? The image I attached shows the problem. I'm using a #69 nylon thread with a 100/16 leather needle on some thin leather. Thank you!
  7. I recently picked up a Chandler c-2971 Patcher that's missing the bottom bobbin. Having a hard time finding parts for this machine, could really use some help.
  8. I'm looking for a value on this 30-1. It's in good working order.
  9. This has a rebuilt needle head with good regular 5 stitch per inch (you can adjust it for less). It has a new bobbin winder. It is running very smoothly and consistently. I am asking $1300 for it. It is in Aspen Colorado. I can make a crate for it and ship it for cost: shipping, time and materials. I have a balance wheel handle and hardware ordered from England. It should be here soon. It comes with 10 new bobbins and some needles, extra feet, etc. Thank you.
  10. Hello All, I am selling an Artesian Toro 3000 with work table. I’ve had it for 5 years, in great shape with about 40 hours of use total. Used it most for chef knife rolls, I just don’t have time anymore unfortunately for leatherwork. In Napa CA Local pickup only. 1500$.
  11. I am helping my friend sell her father’s Cobra Class 3. I have a class 4 so I don’t need this one. All items in pictures is included. Asking $2000 and pick up only in Kansas City, Kansas 66109
  12. Hey, Check out the Weaver leather rotary sewing machine I saw a video on today. I wished I'd had this option when I bought my Tipman Boss. https://www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/63500-01/master-tools-cub-manual/pr_59274/cp_/shop-now/machinery/sewing/machines Vikefan
  13. Good day. I need your help and advice on choosing a sewing machine for sewing leather. I have experience with sewing textiles, but as far as working with leather is concerned, I'm just a rookie. I want to start sewing car seats and upholstery. Unfortunately, I have no familiars, who would be engaged in sewing such products. I'm sure it should be a flatbed machine. But I have doubts about what kind of the feed mechanism to choose - top & bottom or compound feed. I have heard and read different opinions on this matter. What are the features of the choice? My purchase budget - around $ 1200. Brands represented in my country - Juki, Typical, Durkopp-Adler, Golden Wheel, Hightex, Zoje. One seller also advised me model Typical GC 20606-1. Do you think this will be a good choice? I don't want to be wrong, because I won't have another try. Thank you in advance.

  19. Hi There, I'm new to the forum, although i'm a long time lurker as this seems to be the best place to get opinions on anything leather. I'm in the market for a walking foot or roller foot sewing machine and found a local kijiji listing for one of each. The first is a singer cylinder arm machine with what appears to be a landis badge (second picture), and the second is a post bed roller foot sewing machine with a supreme badge and a separate landis badge (i think) - this looks like a Landis TK51(third picture), but i'm really not that experienced with sewing machines and was wondering your opinion. Can anyone help identify these? Can you give me any info about quality? They are selling for $600 each and i really have no context about sewing machine pricing. Regis
  20. Hi all, Glover here based in Canada. Right now I do hand-stitched gloves in sheep and goatskin, lined with cashmere. They're quite expensive, have had a lot of queries for people looking for more affordable gloves. I know how to use PXM and Pique sewing machines (glove machines) but don't own one. Putting feelers out there to see if anyone has something available, such as a Singer 172 or similar. Worth mentioning - I prefer using the horizontal, PXM style machines, and am generally less keen on the pique, post-bed style ones. I THINK there was a German company making clones of the 172 and they actually looked quite good, but can find NO information on where to get one. Also, I need a lock stitch machine, so those nice antique fur overlockers aren't quite right either. Attached are some photos of hand-stitched gloves, for your viewing pleasure! Also, ask any questions you like about glove stitching, I'll see if I can answer them. Thanks in advance, K. Skinner And here is an example of the type of machine I need. Thanks

  22. Hello all, I bought a singer 119-2 cylinder bed sewing machine and it is working fine after some tlc and a new servo motor. I would like to replace the walking feet with ones that would allow me to see the needle. The one i have now the needle goes through the front foot and makes it hard to see where im sewing especially around corners. Is there a replacement foot that will fit this machine? Having a hard time finding info on this. So far all i have seen is a foot that comes on the 78-3 but it has some teeth on the bottom and i was trying to stay away from that if i can since im sewing leather. Also i have my tension really high. I works fine but just seems really tight. I had to tighten it that much to get the seam right just doesn't seem right. Im using 138 size thread. Should i replace the tension assembly? Any info would help thank you.
  23. "Cobra 4" package, some use but "like new". Includes all feet, roller edge guide installed, and flatbed "work platform" has never been out of original packaging. Have original box/formed packaging for this machine. To see list of "add ons", it's this one -- https://leathermachineco.com/product/cobra-class-4-p-premium-package/ Machine in eastern Iowa for pick up. First $2500. I don't hang out here - contact Jeff for questions, more pics, or videos of this machine running. Note if you're a belt and/or holster maker, I probably have some other items of interest to you (not included with this package).
  24. So I have a chance to buy a Toyota J34 demin sewing machine. It shows that it is capable of sewing through several layers of what looks like upholstery leather.I make holsters, sheathes, and heavy duty dog collars. I typically use 4-8 oz leather for my projects. Would this machine be up to the task? I came to you guys first, since you all are a plethora of knowledge. Thanks in advance!
  25. I am looking at buying myself an industrial cylinder bed sewing machine. I mainly do small to mid sized projects like belts, wallets, bags, etc. I have been looking into buying a Cobra class 26 until recently I found a 10 year old Adler K269 single needle walking foot for sale for around $1700 for stand and everything. I am wondering if this is a good deal, and if it a high quality machine with similar capabilities as the Cobra class 26. Any information on this would be a huge help.
