Hello everyone I am new in the leather work industry and I am making dog collars and leashes and sewing them by hand. But now I am interested in buying a sewing machine to speed up the process and be even more precise. I am doing some research online but it's very difficult to understand what machine will be the one perfect for me. I am working with natural leather that is 3/3.5 oz thick and/or natural leather 3oz plus a padding made with soft leather (0.8/1oz) and some foam. What would you suggest I could buy? My budget is 500/600 CAD. I found two Omega machines on e-bay that seem interesting but I read good and bad things about them at the same time (model Omega 307 and Omega walking foot WF22ZZ). Hello! I recently bought an industrial Juki that came with this servo motor. I was under the impression that the dial in the front would adjust the speed, however nothing changes when I turn it. Does anyone have this motor? Is there a way to change the speed? Photos of the motor are attached. Thank you!

Hi folks and good morning from Australia I have a slight problem with my Cowboy CB4500 and servo motor The machine is 10yr old but has done very little work and most of that is 8/9oz.Today I have gone to sew and switch the power on everything lights up as per normal the LED on the front has these little [ ] things that just revolve around the screen as per normal no noise at all, have pulled all power connections (plugs) out put them back in switched power off for a while switched it back on again I am at a loss as I only used it a month ago and it was perfect. The only thing I have put it down to is we did loose power for about 2 days due to flooding in the north of the country and I did hook up a generator for that time and the machine was plugged in to the wall maybe a power spike from the generator, but then it should not switch the LED screen on.I DON’T KNOW

The gear in the back is also clicking and jumping at certain points, as you can see in the video when I am hand cranking the machine. The hook also spins at certain points. I've decided to bite the bullet and get a sewing machine, but I need some guidance. I don't picture getting into bags very often so a cylinder arm isn't needed...yet. I was looking at sailrite for a bit, but keep getting directed to Cobra. My question is can a class 20 cleanly stitch thin pieces of veg tan, say 3-4oz? And same question for the 18. Also if you have any recommendations on other models to look at please let me know. Thank you.

Hi y’all I am an Arizonan now living in Namibia Africa and I just pulled the trigger in buying my first industrial sewing machine to up my leatherwork game. I imported a new Oryx 341 (same machines as the cowboys in the US, just re named the oryx as its more relevant for Africa) from South Africa and have it all dialed in with a recently added speed speed reducer. It was quite expensive and a pain in the ass to get it sent over but well worth it. Its a solid machine! Namibia is one of the most remote countries in the world in terms of population and logistics. Its no easy feat getting leather supplies here with (luckily) only one overpriced leather supply shop and absolutely no online shopping options whatsoever with lack of online payment systems and reliable shipping. As well as I literally live in the middle of nowhere in the desert with the nearest grocery store being 4 hours away. My brother is visiting from the US soon so naturally I plan on loading him up like a pack mule with stuff from the US lol. I would like to get a drop down edge guide and a few different presser feet styles for the machine. I am trying to spend as least amount of money as possible so was hoping to find some deals on parts from other bigger brands or generic label that will fit on the machine. Anyone have any info on what might be compatible? Also any recommendations for time saving leather tools/gear you can’t live without? Bonus points if they are small and not extremely heavy!

We have an Adler 30-15 treadle sewing machine for sale. Asking $2,000 OBO. Our friend who owned a leather and saddle shop recently passed and we purchased the entire contents of the shop from his estate. We have never used the machine but seen it being used while spending time at his shop. My wife is the leather worker in the house and her bad knees precludes the use of a treadle machine. We are keeping the other modern electric machines that came with the estate. We are located in central Wisconsin so pickup at our location is preferred but I am willing to discuss other possibilities. I need to change the hand wheel to a larger one, I’m starting to get a blister from cranking it for the right needle position :), it’s just too small. Can someone point me in the right direction to get a new larger wheel or one with a handle? Thanks.

I have a lightly used Cobra Class 26 for sale. Not used much because I also have a Class 4 and we use the class 4 mainly everyday. Hello from Germany guys, longtime lurker first time poster. I just inherited a lovely Adler 30-1 from the 1940´s that runs like a dream, but while trying to switch the drive belt to the other pulley it disintegrated into several dozen pieces. So if anyone knows the length i need to cut the replacement to, please let me know. Also I´d love to retrofit an electric servo motor, but have no idea what motor to buy or if it can even be done to such an old machine? Furthermore i was also unable to find any info on what kind of grease goes into that trough the thread is pulled through. If anyone could give me some pointers I´d be deeply grateful. Cheers Scorpio

Good day everyone! Many moons ago, my wife and I were avid Cowboy Action Shooters while we still resided in Southern California. We used to shoot/compete fairly regularly with The Cowboys in Norco, CA - even occasionally traveling to Arizona etc. for larger competitions. As I became more involved in the sport, I took up leatherworking to make us custom gun belts, holsters etc. and when I was good enough my wife treated me to an Artisan Toro 3200 leather sewing machine. Unfortunately, after the birth of our daughter and a move back to Canada I'm no longer involved in the sport and no longer make use of this incredibly powerful sewing machine. Sadly, during the near 2500 mile journey, the moving company we contracted was less than gentle with my machine and the castors on the stand were broken and the spool holder damaged. Nothing a competent spot of weld couldn't fix for the spool holder and I am sure someone handier than I could put new castors on the base but it is what it is. I'm asking $1500 for the sewing machine. As I am moving soon and because I live in the Toronto area, my preference would be for the buyer to pick up the sewing machine being as it weighs a not inconsiderable amount. However I am willing to entertain discussions about possibly shipping the sewing machine if the buyer is willing to pay and help with coordination (as I have a lot on my plate right now with my move as it is). Hi, if been offered a adler 205 mo2-2 sewing machine for a box of beer. It looks to be tidy but has what looks to be air hoses on it. Haven't had a chance to plug it in. Looking at it for a spare machine. Currently use a cowboy 4500 for saddles and tack in NewZealand. Does any know much about this machine and what it's capable of?

Hello, I have been making belts for a while and I have been struggling to machine stitch the keepers. I see some people using staples to avoid having to sew the keepers, but I would prefer to sew them using my machines. Does anyone sew their belt keepers with a sewing machine, if so, how do you do it? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Starting to look for machines to do leather bags and probably redo seats for my husband's 1980 911. I'm currently looking at a sewmo ck-563. I'm getting that this is some kind of juki clone, but not finding much literally with that brand. I'm a few hours away from the seller, he's asking $405 and has sent video of it sewing a piece of leather. I'm reading that this one should reverse? Is this something that would work for the applications that I'm looking for? Is that a good ballpark price or should I see if he has wiggle room? Anything else I should look for? I'm experienced, but with more domestic sewing...bags, quilting, and I do small scale production sewing for an Etsy seller - keyfobs on janome 1600p. I'm assuming that's going to struggle with auto upholstery, it does ok on bags but not having a free arm gets tricky and eventually struggles a teeny bit with too many layers. Hi everyone! I'm Sam and I'm thrilled to be here. I've been lurking and reading the threads here for the last couple of months and the time has come to officially join the community. As a total newbie, I've been reading the stickied/older threads, trying to grapple with all the terminology that everyone here is so familiar with, but have found myself a little lost and in need of assistance. I'm hoping nobody minds if I ask some questions. First, a little background. I'm currently based in Dubai, having moved here for work just before the pandemic hit. I lost my job during the initial wave and started leather working as a way to deal with the stress of the situation. I have always loved leather, but never handled it before. I am teaching myself little bits at a time and still have a lot to learn, but I quickly became addicted to the craft! I'm sure many of you will know the feeling well! I've been making myself some small items using some 4-7ft leather pieces (from Etsy), a rivet press and some cheap rivets+snaps, leather belt hole punch, and contact cement. I've made 3 bags and a couple of card cases this way. A couple of those items were saddle stitched (using Youtube tutorials) but I quickly found that my hands can't take it (because I have rheumatoid arthritis), so I relied on contact cement and must say the stuff has been perfectly fine for my needs up until this point. Like many people, the pandemic has made me reassess my path and seek more joy. I've decided I'd like to start a small Etsy store selling purses and wallets. I'm aware that there's a ton of competition out there in this area, but I would like to spend my days running a modest operation and relishing in the joy of handcrafting unique items for others to enjoy. My designs have been unique (my own patterns) and I have had strangers comment on how beautiful my handmade bag was- which sent me straight to cloud 9! I have felt so excited, joyful and proud of my small creations and I'd like to lean into this passion project fully. Now onto the questions and issues I'm facing. I cannot picture selling items made with contact cement. I would have to stitch them for them to be worthy of other people's interest and money. However, I've never machine-stitched anything in my life! From my research, I have narrowed down the options for a sewing machine, but could use some input on which would be best suited to my needs and circumstances. Materials: - I'm using goat/lamb/chrome tanned leather and suede, ranging from 0.6mm-1.2mm in thickness. For some designs, I would need to stitch up to 3 layers of leather. - I'm using reinforcements/interfacing on the thinner leathers so they don't tear or stretch out when the bags are full. - I'm also lining my bags with thin microsuede fabric. Budget: I'm trying to save up to $2000 (usd) for my first leather sewing machine (including shipping). Machine options (based on the threads here): 1 - Techsew 2700 2 - Consew 260RB 3 - Juki 1541 + some sort of regular home sewing machine to stitch my linings and inner pockets- perhaps a Brother or Singer? *I've been reaching out to local suppliers but they're not forthcoming with information. Basically they say that I should decide what I want and then they'll let me know if they can source the machine. I also have the option of finding a supplier abroad who will ship internationally but the shipping cost would eat into my budget. ** I'm not including hand-crank machines due to my rheumatoid arthritis, however I'm willing to consider it if they're not as hard on the small joints as saddle stitching. Questions 1- Are the 3 options I've listed the correct ones for my needs? Is one preferable over the others? 2- I live in a small flat, but have enough space to set up desks/machines/shelves. However, I'm concerned about the weight of the machines and the amount of noise they make. Would any of these machines be an issue if used in a flat versus an outdoor studio/warehouse. Are they too loud to operate in a flat? I don't want trouble with my landlord or neighbors. 3- Is it difficult to set up these industrial machines without any prior experience? I'm planning to follow Youtube tutorials and/or any information provided by the supplier. 4- Franky, do you think I'm jumping in at the deep end and would be wiser, given that I know nothing about sewing machines, to use a basic domestic machine with a different head/needles for my leatherwork instead of investing in a proper leather sewing machine? Additional considerations: 1- My estimation is that the thickest total material I'll be stitching will be 4-5mm. Therefore, I would like to get a sewing machine that can easily handle 10mm so that I'm not having it cranking at its maximum capacity all the time. 2- I would like the option of a cylinder arm and flatbed attachment, as some of my designs have gussets and rounded corners. 3- I would like to buy a machine that would last me a few years before needing an upgrade, if possible. I don't think I want to learn/start on one machine, then have to buy a better one in 6 months' time as I won't be able to afford that. I'd rather learn from the get-go on the machine that will be my workhorse. Okay, I think that's everything! I hope it's not overkill, but I wanted to be as clear as possible so that I can be steered right. Thank you to anyone and everyone for your willingness to help us newbies out! I am looking to sell this Landis Aristocrat Model L outsole stitcher. It's in northern NJ for anyone who'd like to pick up -- but weighs nearly 800 lbs. (Unable to ship unless you arrange all of it including a pickup.) I'm looking to get around $600 for it. It works perfectly!
