Hi all, Does anyone have any good sources for martingale chains? I’ll list the ones I’ve found below, along with my complaints Hopefully this can be a resource for others but I can’t believe I haven’t found a great wholesale source yet.. https://www.pethardware.com/en/martingale-chains/ I really shouldn’t be complaining because the shipment and order processing was perfect and everything met expectations, but do I really have to order from Czechia to Canada + import fees on top of that? </3 — also great prices!! https://www.abbeyengland.com ‘I’ve seen abbey England recommended on here before and other people will likely be more knowledgeable than me because I can’t create an account on the website in order to see the prices, I’ll contact customer service...... when I’m more desperate. https://www.fmartinandson.co.uk/our-range/hardware-for-pets/circle-martingale-chains/ ‘these look decent, good prices, I’ve heard the quality is good, only brass and silver, I chose pet hardware over this store because of all the extra goodies I could order at pet hardware. https://cdwplus.com/singleMartingale.html#anchor1016968 ‘this website is so old I always question if they are still even in business... or if I stumbled into a 2007 black hole webpage you know? https://emilycraftshanghai.com/collections/chain-ring this is my biggest recommendation and also my biggest complaint..... where is this girl getting GUNMETAL BLACK and ROSE GOLD martingale chains from?? (fyi, my order is on the way, I will report back on the quality when I get them) there is a supplier out there somewhere and I will find them. Please help me.

Hey all, I'm Graeme from not-so-sunny Scotland just south of Edinburgh. I started leatherworking a few years back as I needed to make protective covers for my greenwood working tools i.e. axe masks, knife sheaths, billhook covers, etc. Then my old belt gave up the ghost so I set about making a new one and learned a lot along the way. I've just started back leatherworking after a hiatus of several years due to illness and a marriage break-up and am really enjoying it. Made a few belts for myself and a few others which were very well received and a few dog collars and leads (are they called leashes in America and some other countries?). Got a batch of vinegaroon brewing and a made some saddler's grease all thanks to to this very helpful and knowledgeable forum. I figure if the answer ain't on here then there ain't no answer! Anyhoo, I ain't great with technology and am shocking at taking photographs so you'll need to bear with me in that department. I'll pop up from time to time with questions and try and help others whenever I can but I'm pretty sure there are others with way more knowledge and experience than little old me. Lastly, I'd just like to say what an amazing forum this is and thanks very much for having me. Kindest regards to all, Graeme Red Kite Crafts

I make dog collars and have been using veg tan so they can be stamped and tooled. Recently I switched to Latigo, and have made some nice collars but don't feel I can sell them as they bleed when I rub them with a cloth, or conditioner. They have been finished for some time now but still have a generous amt of dye bleed. Worry that dogs hair will stain when it gets wet, and really not a good thing to have happen when u want to sell dog collars What can I do to prevent or stop this? Thanks.. Bev

Finally got to the point I needed an industrial sewing machine and went with the Cowboy 3200. Still have some fine-tuning to do for me but I love how it works and it sure beats spending an hour of labor on stitching!! You can see the lines on top of the material is there an adjustment for that or is that just normal? I made these three collars for Second Chance Farms. An amazing foundation that takes in disabled animals and helps them enjoy life. Thanks for looking!

Hi, I just bought a hide of austin double shoulder leather from tandy to use for dog collars I'm making. They didn't have thin enough latigo and I was advised to get this. (http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/leather/9052-554.aspx) I'm worried now that it's too flexible for a dog collar and is going to stretch and also might not be fantastic in weather. Can anyone please advise? I've looked on the internet and the only place that sells this "austin double shoulder" is tandy....

I figured with my 1st post on here being for help, I should make a post including some of my past work. I'm still new to making dog collars. I find it really enjoyable and a good stress reliever on those tough days at work. I like to use swarovski crystals in almost everything I make- i'm not one for plain and simple collars. I have no idea how to price my collars out, bill for my time, etc.

Hi guys ! It's my first post on this amazing forum ! I have a question for you. Trying to figure out numbers. The girl who is making prototypes for my dog accessories company estimates that per skin (average 18 square feet) we can make about 10 medium size dog collar (lining included). If we calculated actual areas and square feet we come up to about 50 dog collars per skin. Is there a way to accuratly calculate how much material is needed ? Thanks a bunch !

Hello from Northwestern MN! I stumbled upon this forum and boy I wish I would have found you people earlier. I farm and have a small dog collar business on the side. I'm also very active with my dogs in areas of agility, flyball, dock diving, hunting, shed hunting and herding. I help others train their dogs too! I'm heavily into rescue work and have been known to foster up to 10-20 dogs a year. Outdoors is where I prefer to be, I'm a creative soul that loves to try new things. I tend to jump in and learn as I'm doing. My business is called Off Leash Collars. Since 2011, I have specialized in fabric dog collars and a little over ago, I started working with leather. I fell in LOVE with the leather medium and after much investment, I'm selling leather dog collars alongside my fabric ones. I also make memory leather cuffs and add a hand stamped name or saying to help people grieve the loss of a loved one. I am self taught and have learned mostly by trial and error. I have learned so much over the course of the year and I want to learn more. My craft has evolved so much and there are tricks to everything. I've searched for so many places to learn in person or a mentor since I'm such a hands on type person, but I have failed at finding any schooling type places. When I found this forum yesterday I was on cloud 9! My goal is to have a finished product to die for. Us crazy dog people love to deck out our pups! I'm needing help to make those tweaks in looking seriously professional, not just artisan. I have companies that are looking at my work and want to offer my collars for sale on their sites. Which brings up another topic of how much to charge. I've included a picture of one of my collars, all my other pictures are apparently too big to add

Hi, I just made a new template set that I am thinking about adding to my product list. It is for making dog collars up to 2" width tapering to 3/4" ends & is designed for a 3/4" buckle. I do not have any pets to make a prototype collar to try it on. I would like to send this template set for free to someone that is a leather crafter & pet owner. My hope is that you will give it a try out and give me your feedback. I only have a couple available right now so it is first come, first served. It will come with instructions on measuring your dog's neck properly and sizing the strap. Please message me if you are interested. Thank you. Stitch~

KIN COLLARS https://www.etsy.com/shop/KinCollars I have recently (over the last two months or so) started making dog collars. I don't have a sewing machine for sewing the edges but I think they're okay without the stitch? What do you think? Would love any feedback and for you all to have a look at my new etsy page. Am totally addicting to leather making now...building up my inventory of tools etc is fun! (And expensive!!) I also have a Facebook page if you'd like to see my updates at: https://www.facebook.com/KinCollars View more and/or shop at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/KinCollars
