Hey Guys!, This is what happens when you have wayyyy too many boot top scraps! I've just stumbled upon another leather project that I can use my boot top scraps for and might even be able to make a little money. This is the first of many I hope to build. Thanks for looking and please give feedback on this idea....any and all will be greatly appreciated. The photos attached show my first guitar strap but, there is one piece missing that attaches to one end....it has not been made yet...a final puzzle piece for tomorrow. I'll try to post a photo of the completed strap attached to one of my guitars.

This is the second guitar strap I made, so I'm still figuring out some of the details. 2 mm thick veg tan, dyed with Fiebings Pro dye Black for the main backround and white Angelus acrylic paint for skull and writing on top of which I painted with several alcohol dyes. After painting I used resolene and then a coat of Antique Gel which nicely muted and blended the colors. Critique welcome!

Made this guitar strap thinking I would gild the treble clef. After several failed attempts I just resorted to painting it with Jacquard gold acrylic paint. Still looks good, but I wish the gilding would have worked... I don't have a guitar, so no 'action pics'.

Hello! I have never done anything with leather before, however a friend got me a very nice leather guitar strap for a graduation present. They had written a little message on the inside of the leather strap and I don't want the message to wear out. It looks like it's been drawn on with sharpie, I think. I've been looking and what I think I need to do is seal the leather. Looking for some help with that

I made this Christmas gift for my brother inlaw who is a big Iron Maiden fan. This piece of leather was roughly 54 inches long, close to 4 inches wide, and about 9 ounces thick when I bought it at Tandy. I started from the bottom and worked my way up with different images and titles from the band's various albums and songs. First I drew them on a folded piece of paper to make it easier to fit them onto the strap. Eventually, I also put his name on the front. By that time I was getting nervous I'd make a mistake and ruin the whole thing. Thankfully it came together well enough.

I feel bad that I have been part of the forum for some time now, but hardly ever take the time to post anything. Wanted to share my first attempt at making a guitar strap for a friend. Feel free to critique if you have some feedback as I enjoy this forum as a great resource for learning new things. It's made from a 6oz veg tan hide, cut, dyed, basic tooling for the edge border, burnished edges, and then finished off with resolene and a neetsfoot/beeswax mix I use to lotion all my products with before they ship out.

A project that took me 3 days to get finished. The planning was easier this dime, since my friend had told me of a dream he had of a bear swimming next to him in a lake and guiding the way. Originally he had ordered a strap with dragon flies and this is what came out of it! I like the contrasting color and this was actually the first time I carved and beveled out the designs. Please feel free to give me pointers, and critique so the next ones even better! I'm so hype again and can't wait to start the next one!

This started out as a natural guitar strap with a verse from a song hand written in ink with the treble clef carved into it. I screwed up and somehow got some red dye on the front so I had to redo the strap. I ordered some python print from SLC and decided to cut out the area where the words were originally and use the python as an inlay. Body of the strap is 7oz (skived down from 9oz) with a 2oz pigskin liner. I had a hard time getting all the resolene off so I used vinegaroon to make it black. It did an okay job but still hit it with some black dye to give it a brighter black. All hand sewn with saddle stitch using 0.030" black thread from Maine Thread Co.

It's about time to make a guitar strap, and I'm trying to think of fun things to do with it. I've looked around and gathered some ideas, and it looks like there is a lot of room for creativity when doing this. Before I get too crazy, though, I thought I'd ask you experienced folks what you've tried or seen that doesn't work at all. What does one not want to do when making a guitar strap, or what are common pitfalls I should watch out for? If a guitar strap is poorly made, what is it that usually went wrong? Or is it really okay whatever you do, so long as it's reasonably long, has a hole on each end, and has slots for length adjustment somewhere in the mix? This is a pretty general question, but for reference, I am making this for a bass guitar. So I figure it'll be fairly wide, probably padded & lined (I'll sure know how to stitch by the time it's done, I bet) and I'll put strap locks on, just in case any of that inspires comment.

Had a customer contact me after one of the shows I attended and wanted a wallet and guitar strap for her husband for Christmas. The wallet is 4oz veg tanned for the outside and goatskin for the inside. I used the standard T Slot pattern for the slots and wrapped the edges around the outside to give it a more finished look. It's dyed Timber brown with medium brown antique and finished with 2 coats of resolene. The guitar strap is a single layer of 9oz veg tanned, dyed tan with tan antique. The top is finished with 2 coats of resolene and the backside is finished with snow proof. Since it's for a guitar with the attachments both on the body, I also made a strap to accommodate attaching to the neck in case he ever changes his guitar and the next one doesn't have the hook on the body. Both items are hand sewn with waxed linen thread and the edges are burnished with beeswax.

This was a fun design and blending of colours. Working with two bold colours had its challenges, but it turned out in the end.
