Has anyone put this kit together? If so, did you like it? http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/special/44427-00.aspx The kit is typically listed for $259.00, but I see that Tandy has it on sale for $159.00. If it is still on sale next week when I get paid I will order it. That is unless I get feedback that it is not a good kit.

Tired of buying a side to make a couple of holsters? Tired of "settling" for low-end leather to avoid a 'minimum purchase"? Hate those "kits" that claim they fit everything from a quarter to a 5-gallon pail? Before long, I'll have pre-cut (DIE CUT) pieces available. Still stewing over just how to go about pricing, just what to include, quick and relatively inexpensive shipping. More dies being made currently. But these will include leather parts die cut from Hermann Oak A and B, and W/C skirting, thread (in a few colors and weights). And the stitch line pattern for THAT firearm (holes not pre-punched - no mindless lining up). So that would leave a fella needing glue, dye, and a needle 'er two ...

Hey Gang, I've done some research on which tools I will need to start learning how to work with leather. There is a Tandy relatively close, but little in the way of much else. I ended up purchasing a kit online for very cheap ($25 CAN), and I'm hoping the quality won't be too terrible. I think it was a good decision, with several of the tools being on my list. I'm sure there are some in the kit I didn't necessarily need. Thoughts? I'm interested in being able to make wallets, knife sheaths, harnesses, and belts. I still planned on buying a mallet, saddlers needles, thread, wax, glue, utility and precision knife..

Hey guys, I wanted to share my leather dinosaur kits with you ~ I'd been working on these for over two and a half years and premiered them for the first time at a fun little workshop in Sheridan, WY, at the Rocky Mtn. Trade Show ~ I'd been asked by other leather artists when they could get their own kits and left them waiting for a long time while I finished instructions, videos and finalized patterns.... I'm happy to say that they're finally available now on Kickstarter! "Skelosaurz Leather Fossils" just launched a few days ago and has had the honor of being selected from the over 5K projects as one of the few hundred KS staff-picks for "projects we love" which is awesome and exciting for the future of little leather dinos ! Early Bird T-Rex Kits start at $45 plus shipping & finished models are also available... You can get four different Skelosaurz kits that you can carve up and color any way you like ~ Please check them out so they don't go extinct! Skelosaurz Leather Fossils Kickstarter

Here is my first shaving kit or actually kit of any kind. I made it for a friend who couldn't find anything decent way up here. I never realized how much stiching there was to this, and I can tell you my pinkies are real sore. Also I realize I now need a good pricking iron and a better awl. It's out of Al Stohlman's book. I used this new tape to hold it together instead of glue, but found it gummed up the awl and needles. Anyone else ever used it? It was convienient, but I think I will go back to good old contact cement. Next one will be laced.

I have a vintage Tandy 4412 Guardian Shotgun Case Kit for sale, dating from 1983. The kit, for a sheepskin leather case with acrylic pile and foam lining, is in excellent condition and includes all necessary parts (see note), an instruction manual, and a carving pattern. The carving pattern includes full-size templates of the leather pieces and could be used to make additional cases of the same design. The very small zipper pull piece is missing, but a template for the piece (easily cut) is present in the carving pattern, and I have included a piece of leather to use for this piece. Satisfaction is guaranteed, or the item may be returned within 30 days (unused, in the original packaging) for a full refund. Asking price: $97.00

I'm cleaning up around here and need some space. Getting back to leatherwork more often but need to finish some home projects (new siding half done, and I'll be doing some plumbing ABOVE my shop). Selling good quality materials at big discounts. If I don't have it, I don't have to move it 5 times! I have some leathercraft clutch purse kits, some leather already cut out for handbags (including lining leather), some wallet and checkbook parts, belt blanks, half a dozen spools of leather lace, a few craftaids, patterns & books, not sure what else until I get in there. Not selling the tools, as I can wipe those off and get going. More when I get organizing. Pictures as I get time, but message if you have interest in some of what I mentioned. These will not be seen on Ebay (I hate that camp). Shipping in US only, Paypal is preferred. Personally rather see this stuff go to someone "new" and learning, but not necessary.

http://springfieldleather.com/29324/StarterSet%2CProfessionalProject/ Is it worth the money? As in the tools that are included?

I was reading about a company called Laying J Leather that is putting camo vinyl wraps on their raw leather and then stitching the piece together. The vinyl is coming from Camo4u ( http://www.camo4u.com) and the finished pieces that he is selling look really nice. So far they have done knife sheaths, belts, purses, etc... in Realtree and Mossy Oak camo... Anyone try this method? Curious how well it holds up. Looks really nice.....
