Hey everyone, New to this forum and leatherworking also. This is my first real project with leatherworking. I am currently working on a card type wallet and I have been running into issues with the cards, once inserted, wanting to bow out of the wallet. I started with a wallet that was 4" long and the cards would bow when inserted so I made the wallet longer (4-1/8") but still have this issue. I am pretty stumped because I do not want to go any wider and going wider didn't alleviate any of the pressure on the cards. One thought I had was making the "arms" on the upper pocket shorter. Again, I am not quite sure what the issue is here but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Any advice is greatly appreciated and I have pictures below of the larger wallet to show the issue I am having (dont mind the awful edge paint job!). Thank you!

I haven't posted something I've made for a while. This was a custom order I completed just recently. The customer wanted a roper style wallet with hair on hide inlays similar to a notebook I had made several years ago. She also wanted the basket stamping like that notebook had and her boyfriend's initials centered on the front. It was a bit of a rush order to get it to her on time for his birthday but it made it in time and apparently he loved it. The stitching got a little wonky on the interior in places when I sewed it. Still mastering my sewing machine unfortunately. Not sure why the last picture is sideways.

Hi everybody,I was working last couple days on this project, minimalistic stitchless wallet, I call it "The adapter" because it adapts to number of cards or cash that you put inside, it can hold single card safely or 12 cards and 40 bills like in video.

I just finished this for a friend of mine. Veg-tan hand tooled and black pro dye, for the outside. the inside is lined with black pig suede, and the interior is black Winston calf skin. (All hand stitch - saddle stitch) Criticism is welcomed, I have no one to really judge my work! I have thick skin so no feelings hurt here

So, I had these extra bits of very thin Hermann Oak leather that I didn't want to just toss in the bin. I have always wanted to try my hand at a nice bifold pocket wallet with turned edges, and ribbon pockets... so I thought what the heck, I'll give it a go. Here's the result...not the silk purse I had quite pictured in my mind's eye, but useable. A lot of little errors that sum up to a not perfect item, but I learned a lot. I think I might not ever make another one either... this was a pain in the rear! At least not unless someone offered me the right amount of $$, and I don't see that happening, since this didn't turn out so awesome.... Technical details: my own blend of fiebeng's dyes... 35/3 Coats Barbour linen thread, hand stitched at 10 spi, Hermann Oak Leather 1 to 2 oz, batik hand dyed cloth liner. difficulties with uploads.. apparently 187kb exceeds the size limits.... Have you ever noticed that every now and then when you’re more observant to the world around you, you see more of what people are doing? You see how they look, the style of their clothes, the amount of cleavage their clothes show, what kind of bag they have and what it’s made of. You see the style of shoes they are wearing and the condition they’re in, the colors of their clothes can tell you about the mood they might be in and so on. These things give us a clearer notion or feeling of their current state of mind, attitude and possibly their deeper character. Some of these things will change and vary from day to day and time to time. Like a t-shirt with a message on it won’t be worn the next day, or a hair style today might change in the next coming weeks, shoes change on a daily basis. But some things won’t change for a very long period of time, like a genuine distressed leather bag. And it’s these things that could be considered an extension of a person’s character. These things are usually of sentimental value, mostly because they have endured throughout the years and have been with you on many adventures. In many ways the style, fashion, material and color of a bag can give others a sense and feel of the kind of person you might be. Many of us have different intentions when we buy a new bag. Many times we want to impress our friends or co-workers, or we simply need a bag that is most suitable for our line of work or lifestyle. Some of us want to feel like we are more than we actually feel we are, so we buy a bag that reflects a romantic or ideal vision of ourselves. Some of us buy a bag because it simply looks good or goes well with the tone of our skin. Some of us are drawn to a bag because it gives us a sense of security or makes us feel more confident. And then there are those of us that are genuinely completely ecstatic about a particular bag. In the end, we buy the bag that we like, not just to look at, but to use, to carry and to show the world who we are. They personify who we are and who we hope to be, almost as if they are a piece of the puzzle to our characters. Just as every genuine leather bag is unique, so is every person who chooses one. They are an extension of our unique characters. By Noah Nichols Grittyrustic

Hey guys, I'm trying to make something like this, I've made a few wallets like these but without the lining, I really want to try and line the ones I'm making but I have a couple of issues that I don't know how to handle. I would like to know if there's a way that I can hide the fabric where the leather meets, so that I can burnish it and give it a cleaner look, rather than having the fabric exposed in between the leather, and I would also like to hear your suggestions about the edge of the wallet where there's only 1 layer of leather, in regards to the fabric, do I just glue it and the trim it flush and hope that it won't fray over time or should I fold the fabric, glue it to the leather and then stich it? I'm looking forward to read your suggestions and techniques If you're willing to share Cheers, Lourenço

Hi guys, I'm new to this place, but the reason I'm here is because I've spent days searching for a wallet that matches what I have in mind, but I just can't seem to find it. I live in Singapore, it's in South East Asia. Leather workers here are limited by choices of leather and such, rarely willing to work with me. And those who are quote $300+ I'm looking to get a custom wallet, a-fixed with a leather braid that ends with a belt loop. All made of tanned leather, that will age with use and hopefully last forever. I'm unsure of leather weights and thickness, but I'm hoping for something really thick and unbendable. The wallet, I'd prefer that as little pieces be used as possible and minimal glue work to be used. Heavy stitches and such will be preferred. I'm also hoping for a bunch of other things that can be done on the wallet. Anyway, I'm really hoping someone will get to me on this. I have a US address so shipping is not a problem, I also have paypal account, payment should not be a problem. If my wallet turns out sick as hell, I'm get you all the business I can get from this side of the world. My promise for your kindess and workmanship. Do contact at spdx9@live.com for further discussion thanks! Sorry for the really long post!

I'm very happy with my progress for starting leatherworking on May 1st. I'm still waiting for the arrival of the dremel cocobolo burnishers to clean up the edges a bit more.
