A little help

I'm doing a case for phone, and need some input on dyes or stains for this project

Not sure what the issue is. Some clarity would help. Other than that, fiebings pro dye, light or dark brown.??

I really have not been able to pick a color, so I thought I'd ask for thoughts.

Medium tan brown on all then use acrylic paints to paint in the portrait then several coats of 'Mop & Glow' floor varnish to seal it all

I found Mop & Glow tends to crack when worked.

I like the paint options.  I use them here and there. I also use resolene 50/50 mix with water for my holsters. I would oil liberally at the fold and let dry before sewing and finishing to help with flexibility.

I'm beginning to realise or find out that 'Mop & Glo' is different in our different countries

Here it is as thin as water and leather needs about 3 coats to bring up a shine, 1 coat will seal dye ok though. Whereas it seems that in the US 'M&G'  is much thicker and needs thinning down

It really turned out quite well. I can only imagine how awesome it is going to look when it starts to patina.

It's awesome work.  

No doubt about that.  

 

If I were you, I'd repeat it several times....

Then try creating an oil finish.  Where you take neatsfoot oil and a small amount of regular Fiebings dye (not pro dye) and mix them.  Something like 97% oil to 3% dye.  Subsequent coats makes it darker...wait for each coat to dry before adding another.   

Or maybe like others have suggested with the acrylic paints. 

Or maybe slightly adjusting and decorating the flap to become a hat for the gentleman you so wonderfully created.  

 

I think you are on to something...the next ones will be much much faster to make and have better finishes...even though you have done a superb job on this one.  I can see this selling well.   Give it a shot...you got the talent.

I did go an carve the face again after it was all finished. I think it really helped.
