Interests
I like the challenge in making custom leather products that can't be found in any store.
Meeting with other leather crafters to expand both our skills.
Only product I will not do is boots. There are enough quality boot makers already.

Hi Lee, I guessing your not for from Springfield? If you have time & want to explore this leather thing more in depth stop by Springfield Leather Company. Everyone there is always helpful & they've never tried to sell me anything i didn't want -
your question is, How are people able to carve nice fonts........ only one answer..... Practice, Practice, Practice is the only answer

using a 7oz will have some stretch or flex. i would not use anything less than a 7oz & latigo. Latigo is designed for for use in the outdoors. it is the main leather used in horse gear. that looks like they used steer hair on hide. that would also work. i would coat the back with Aussie leather conditioner or Skidmore's waterproofing .

Angelus 600 acrylic finisher bubbles
Norton Custom Leather replied to Historicalbeltworks's topic in How Do I Do That?
i have dealt with this issue so here are some things to look at if you have swapped tee shirts that will be the start of the issue. not knowing what chemicals the shirt have come in contact with will change the adhesion/composition of the finish. this includes laundry detergents or soaps if the finish is water base you may have to dilute the finish. the finish may have changed composition from your supplier with out notice. air quality.... changes in humidity can also cause this to happen. think of it as painting a car, the wrong humidity in the air can cause what is known as Fish Eye in the paint, same thing is happing here -
Needle and thread combo
Norton Custom Leather replied to WhiteBuff's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
know this is late..... i dont get on much your thread should only take up approximately 40% of the needle hole. Starlight have real nice match up charts you can look at -
go to sail rite they are big thread/needle suppliers
-

Just given singer 241-2. Have questions
Norton Custom Leather replied to BikerNettie's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
there are a few things that could cause this. 1. the needle is bent. 2. the wrong needle has been put in 3. i believe this to be your issue, it sounds like the machine is out of time. like a car the parts of your machine have to work together. When they don't your machine will not move or in your case the needle hits. -
sounds like it would work, tho you may try the leather/rubber cement bond that is used for glueing leather. you would probably have a better response as you will be around a moisture rich environment
