I made this Hnefatafl game for #1 son for a Christmas present. I'm making a similar set for #1 dottir I bought-in the wood box. It was plain white wood so I stained and varnished it I get a lot of engraved plaques made by a certain engraver. He worked out how-to and made me about 22 of an engraved gold aluminium plaque for the top of the box Inside the box are four bags The gold bag holds the King The small linen bag holds the King's men The large linen bag holds the Opponent's men And the grey bag holds two brass dice and 4 rune stones The game board is 30cm -1ft square. G'Day, This my latest effort. Its for a client. Theres a board game inside. The board is soft/flexible with components & instructions rolled up inside a custom made 'velveteen draw sting bag' . The leather is 3-3.2 mm veg tan, dyed with a whisky antique , and all hand stitched ( complete with sore fingers & hands lol ) and with solid brass hardware. I very rarely make ' round ' stuff, but this turned out alright . I modified an awl. I still need practice using curved needles , my ( sore) fingers just couldn't hold them, I went with straight needles in the end. I also need a bit more practice sewing ' round' things' . I got this done ju…

So I made my first full box (I've made small ones with wooden lids before). I was originally hoping to have it so the top and bottom hinged together, but I would have needed to use thicker leather for it to work well (or glue another layer inside), and more importantly, take into account that all that surface tooling on the lid would significantly expand it. Turns out it made it the perfect size to slide over the bottom, so it's not a complete loss. Next time I'm doing all the lid decorations, *then* cutting the sides and bottom. Also made the sides out of one long strap, and it would have been easier on me if I had just cut each side separately and done a tiny bit …

So I got the pattern from Leather Hub (see patterns forum) and had a go, I am really pleased with the result it’s a mix of leather, all veg tan going from 1mm for the eyes, 2mm for the decorative straps, 3mm for the feet & horns up to 4mm for the box shape, this was done more to use what I had than any other reason. a mix of fiebings, tandy & angelus dye & paint, lined with a faux suede material that is glued in the lid but stitched in to the body. Ivan domed rivets and button stud, 1mm waxed thread from Amazon the eyes were made with cast resin with a paper printed pattern glued to the back
