These are the projects I completed in my first week of leatherworking (in the order of completion). I really just wanted to make a couple collars for my dogs. But now, I’m having way too much fun to stop. After finishing the third collar, I decide to order some spot setters to make that job easier. I’m still practicing my beveling... Does anyone have any suggestions regarding ways to finish the edges that won’t bleed or eventually flake off? Any suggestions are welcomed. I’m here to learn! Thanks!

Here is a collar I made for our Dachshund from English bridle. It is a bit over built, but that is how I wanted it. fully lined, including the strap, with 2-3 oz veg tan. Had a bit of trouble with the edge kote sticking. It might be a bad batch.

I finally tried my hand at something other than straight-line stitching. Had to make a template, adjusted for size, and practiced on a scrap piece first. The dog won't know the difference. Lucky dog! Jeff

My dog lost his collar so I had a reason to try something new. Notice also the custom tag made from a fender washer i found in my garage! I used two layers of veg tan with nylon tape between and looped around the hardware for strength. I would have liked stronger hardware but I just used what was laying in my drawer so nothin exceptional there. The dog likes it I guess but doesnt respect it- he’s got it all scratched and worn now.

One of my customers had a severe injury to his arm. Shattered the wrist and forearm bones, and now, even though he has had surgery to repair it, he has increased sensitivity to touch. He asked for an armguard that would protect him from bumps and scrapes that we take for granted. This is a lined piece with a foam layer in the middle provide added absorption to impact.

Hi, I've been lurking here for a little while. Figured I'd actually contribute instead of hiding in the proverbial hedges and peering out at you all from between the leaves. A little about me: I'm from Wisconsin, (I literally live down the street from where I grew up, so I've not strayed far...) I am a care worker, have been for probably 15 years but I have an odd assortment of talents/interests. I'm an artist/graphic designer/illustrator (freelance it when I have time). As an artist, I'm really interested in tooling - Its like sculpting and drawing and painting all rolled into one. I also train/rehabilitate horses (and dogs) whenever I get the chance. I …

Here's a simple collar and leash made from 9/10oz European bridle. It's havanna in color (a deep chocolate brown) brass hardware. Collar is 1 3/4" wide and leash is 1" wide. Thanks for looking. Let me know what you think, and critiques always welcome.
