Sedgwick Bridle is beautiful to look at but it's pretty stiff. For the gusset, I had to split it down to 3 oz and reluctantly line it with 2 oz cow suede (wish there was 1 oz suede). Probably should've cut the lining slightly smaller than the main body. Would make better edges. Took 1 week... Well worth the pain.

This time at home, a customer asked if I could have a look at her Louis Vuitton bag where the upper folded leather edge had almost completely deteriorated. I had some light beige pig skin that looked like it was the same that was used originally, and I googled to see if LV used pigskin, and the page I found confirmed this. A trip to the local sewing shop to find a matching colour of yellow and then it was just a matter of carefully removing the old one and sewing on a new edge. Hello good people! I'm kinda new to this and was looking for helpful information which led me to this page, so I'm hoping someone with more experience here can help me! I made a few smaller projects up until now but wanted to try and make something bigger this time: the bag in the pictures. Sadly I'm not quite sure what type and thickness of leather to use for this project? I read that cowhide / calfskin is mostly used in making bags, would that be a good option here? Since in my mind the bag needs to have some kind of stability to it and from my experience cowhide seems to be kinda soft? Also which thickness can you recommend for a project like thi…

This is my latest bag. It's been about a year in the making as I had to put it aside for client orders. Finally took the time to finish the handles and put it all together. Fully turned briefcase with English suit wool accents. Entirely hand stitched as always. I made the handles out of solid brass and wrapped them with leather for comfort. One exterior pocket on the gusset for pens and such and one on the body for a phone or a pair of gloves. I had thought about building it with piping, but I'm glad I didn't on this one. I like that it's clean and understated. Comments and critiques welcome.

Hi folks! It has been a while since I had the chance to fool around with leather. I finally made a briefcase (a first for me) out of veg tan. The leather used is 5oz thick and was dyed with tandy's pro waterstain for the black sections and the tan parts have been treated with olive oil and "saddle butter". The whole thing is stitched at 7spi with 532 linen thread. The edges are painted with fenice ebony edge paint. Hope you guys/gals like it! PS: sorry about the poor picture quality...

Hi guys, I have been a member of the group for a while and have admired everyone's work here, I am reluctant to show my own offerings but decided to take the plunge. Hi, everyone! I just wanted to share the latest project. I just finished it this morning. I Promised my wife a while ago that I would make her a bag for her laptop, but she wanted something fancy to show off in her meetings, hence the black finish. I started looking around for design elements that would suit her tastes and started making the patterns. This is my take on a traditional dual strap satchel. I used Horween's Chromexcel, Bucanneer and Casco horse front. The bag is hand stitched with brass and copper rivets and the straps were sewn on my CB3200. It has a removable pouch that can fit small items or a small tablet.

Just recently finished and shipped this bag out to it's new owner to be used and enjoyed. Happy to hear any thoughts. It's W&C dark brown English bridle leather 8-9 ounce, gussets I split down on my old dixon splitter (I really want a bell skiver, it will be my next purchase) It's all hand cut and saddle stitched with dyed burnished and waxed edges, solid brass hardware from Buckleguy.com (love them), leather I ordered from the Hide House in Napa, their customer service is awesome and they're close to me so shipping is super fast.
