airbrushing finish
Jimbob replied to brinyar's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hello What do you use to clean up your acryl finish/airbrush and what pressure do you use for the airbrush application on dye and finish...?? The holsters look very good, real pro work!!! I used airbrush on shirts abt 25 years ago....now it finally dawns on me its the way to go on leather finish! Greetings James -
Transfer ur questions over to motorcycle gear, there are tons of bikers making seats....I use 3-4 oz veg tan and then after dying I use neatsfoot oil or when using natural color oil and then wax....also acryl seal will work after light oil.... Ask more questions in the biker section... Greetings James

thanks guys..... I have a Singer 211-155 on a table already with a servo motor from Toledo Bob.....the 31-15 will fit right in that cut out,,,so all I do is change head if needed. So speed is no problem, but hand control for extreme curves.....sharp turnes and little detail stitching....back tacking... That bigger hand wheel on one of the other model 31-15 seems to be the trick, I am sure I can make that fit! Or find me a large Handwheel from a totally different machine,,,,? and make it fit??? Where could I find a larger handwheel, any sugestions... As always thank you for the input and info from all. Greetings Jimbob:yeah: my sewing machines: Adler 105-64 Singer 211-155 Singer 31-15 Singer 99 handwheel mint Singer 19-51 mint Singer 188K in works

Hi everybody..... Just trying to set up my new Singer 31-15.....it has an unusually small hand wheel (to me...) on it?!? Wonder if Ican change it to a much bigger one for more hand control and lesser speed. Did they all (31 series) come with the same size wheel or are there different hand wheels out there....? Just wondering, if possible I like to go bigger. After market or original parts? thanks for the info........ Aloha james

Get the seat pan, is it metal or fibers....then see if he wants no foam or cushy foam....figger the design, make sure he likes it.....tool and dye, then either attach to metal pan by rivets or by staples on fiber pan....BUT first go to other forum with answers on biker gear here on this site.....tons of info!!!! Check my website and give me a shout if you need help!! Aloha Jimbob

Getting An Even Finish Using Fiebings Dye
Jimbob replied to wvcraftsman's topic in How Do I Do That?
Nice info here, thanks for the write up!! I like to try airbrush next....dipping makes sense!! Again, thank you for sharing!! James -
First of all this bike has vinyl on its seat, you want to go leather??....Good!! Take seat off, ripp off vinyl, yuk, then find out what material the seat pan is.....fiber glas is good, most common on japs bikes....shape or not shape your foam....take a pattern of the old vinyl, or use braun bag paper......then messure twice!!! Decide if you want to stitch or lace, make it look cool or factory, put design on leather, add skirts then wet leather from behind....glue on foam and STRETCH!! the skirt around and under your seat.....if fiberglass, staple with air stapler and make sure you have no wrinkles!!! Step back, smile and know you done well....step back further, have some dark beer and smile more!! Let dry, add oil or conditioner...dye?? You are done!! need more, better and serious info....look on this website, lots of seat info here!! James

Love ur socks in the picture!!!!!!!!! Ohhhh and your work is great too...hahaha,,,,,,,, James -
What kind of motorcycle seats we are talking here....if you want to stitch up two layers of 8-10 oz of saddle grade hide with a metal pan inbetween...wont work, need a cylinder machine and a bigger one two.....I do this with a Adler 105-64!! If you want to stitch panels and skirts on foamed chopper seats, the 211 will work.....I do that with my 211-155.....if you want to sew designs on the top seat panel....even something smaller would work....I use Singer 99 with hand wheel and soon a Singer 31-15... Send some pictures of what seats you are working on......and keep in mind I am a bloody beginner myself, just putting in my two cents!! hahaha.... Most of all.....have fun!! Aloha James

you definitly do want to cut deep enough to make your beveling popp out, means it needs to have a fairly deep cut to receive the tool and be able to walk it......on thin leather I cut evey bit of half the material, accordingly on thicker....8-13 oz....I still make a deep cut to burry about 1.5 Milimeter or so....sharp, and I mean extra sharp knife needed here!!!!!! Keep your knife straight and you will receive a clean cut that will guide your beveler and allow you to walk and burry the edge so you get this 3-dimensional look!! (spelling &^%$%^&&^&**)) OK, now be aware....me rookie too, hope that helps a bit......hopefully the 220V carving pros will join in here soon to give you more hints.... Aloha James

thanks Wiz Planing on doing nothing heavy on this Singer 31-15......2-3 layers of 1-2 oz at the VERY most!! Wonder why you need different sizes of roller feet, does the size effect the transport of the material?? Single row feed dog makes sense....guess it has to interact with the upper roller wheel..!? 138 is almost to thick, I can do this on my Singer 211.....so no problem here.....Trying to sew desings and filligree sewing on boot leather and wallet covers....92 size should be fine for that! Main interst lays in sewing complex designs with needle and thread into chrome tan, like drawing with a pencil.....just jusing a sewing machine....makes killer chopper seat covers!!!!!!!! haha....so I hope....*** again, tnx....and greetings James

wow, outstanding three-dimensional art work.......love the vines and the swing everything has.......I am sure there is NO Tandy's leather craft store in your country and not much western cowboys either.....so I am sure you are limited with leather craft peers and resources.......your work is outstanding!! Keep it coming and show us some more! Always been fascinated by other cultures and people doing things different.......you are doing it just right!!! Greetings from Virginia Jimbob -

A Wallet
Jimbob replied to Spencer G's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
very nice!!! Natural look, I digg this......the corners as said a bit rounder, the edges a bit more buffed...maybe a contrast color>? Your stitches got a bit short for an inch or two.....again, very nice.....love the carving......all in all a heck of a wallet!! James -
Flyscot... Since Kate must be busy I let you know what I did use...as a adhesive/glue.... Barge leather cement works best, it will be still flexible but also lets you attach the liner to the outside part permanently!! There are people using the almighty 3M spray glue out of the can....there are different numbers, I think what you need is 44, 74 or 77 is for foam....this stuff is expensive too. If you order from STleather, you get the Barger fairly cheap!! Good to know that there are people out there liking Italien bikes....me tooo!!!! Bella Italia!! I can just picture these Laverda's, Ducati's, Moto Guzzi's and all the MV Augustas...ohhhhh these Italiens....!!! haha....had some of them and still dream of most of them.....!! And of course an old Beemer been in my garage several times too....I guess I like em all!! I'll drink a dark beer to you....a Bavarian dark beer!!! Ok, back to the leather work.....if you need any help, info or just plain BS....shoot me a mail! James
