  1. you definitly do want to cut deep enough to make your beveling popp out, means it needs to have a fairly deep cut to receive the tool and be able to walk it......on thin leather I cut evey bit of half the material, accordingly on thicker....8-13 oz....I still make a deep cut to burry about 1.5 Milimeter or so....sharp, and I mean extra sharp knife needed here!!!!!! Keep your knife straight and you will receive a clean cut that will guide your beveler and allow you to walk and burry the edge so you get this 3-dimensional look!! (spelling &^%$%^&&^&**)) OK, now be aware....me rookie too, hope that helps a bit......hopefully the 220V carving pros will join in here soon to give you more hints.... Aloha James
  2. Holy macaroni....!!!!!!! Quit calling yourself a leather rookie!!!!!!!!! Absolutly love it, very clean.....nice carving.....dont like the font on the back.....matter of taste....step forward, you earned it!! JimBob
  3. So much good and honest info here....you guys rock! I really enjoy being here on this forum, no class or shool would have been able to teach me so much about sewing machines in such short time.....again, thanks to all of you on here.....maybe one of these days I can pay back to an newcomer with some answers I can provide! Ya all come by the house one day and we have some cow tongue and room temperature dark beer!!! James
  4. thanks Wiz Planing on doing nothing heavy on this Singer 31-15......2-3 layers of 1-2 oz at the VERY most!! Wonder why you need different sizes of roller feet, does the size effect the transport of the material?? Single row feed dog makes sense....guess it has to interact with the upper roller wheel..!? 138 is almost to thick, I can do this on my Singer 211.....so no problem here.....Trying to sew desings and filligree sewing on boot leather and wallet covers....92 size should be fine for that! Main interst lays in sewing complex designs with needle and thread into chrome tan, like drawing with a pencil.....just jusing a sewing machine....makes killer chopper seat covers!!!!!!!! haha....so I hope....*** again, tnx....and greetings James
  5. I am fixing to claim a mint Singer 31-15, abt 1950's.....??!!.....will be used for wallets, inlays and filigree.....eventually boot uppers.....need roller foot in different sizes, what is available, where to get and what foot /roller foot/size is used for what application....?? Thread size....? how thick can the leather be....? Any used parts, any pictures....? Lots of questions!! Any takers........?? Thanks so much Jimbob
  6. get a servo motor from Bob Kovar.....I have two and absolutly love them!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greetings James
  7. hast du meine PM bekommen....wenn nichts anderes geht dann vielleicht in Stuecken schicken....Vielen Dank nochmals!! Gruesse Jimbob
  8. wow, outstanding three-dimensional art work.......love the vines and the swing everything has.......I am sure there is NO Tandy's leather craft store in your country and not much western cowboys either.....so I am sure you are limited with leather craft peers and resources.......your work is outstanding!! Keep it coming and show us some more! Always been fascinated by other cultures and people doing things different.......you are doing it just right!!! Greetings from Virginia Jimbob
  9. would you eventually share the biker chap patterns.....I have been looking all over the place....only cowboy chap patterns.....thanks so much!!! James
  10. where can a man find this hardware on your straps......UK or US...??? Thanks
  11. very nice!!! Natural look, I digg this......the corners as said a bit rounder, the edges a bit more buffed...maybe a contrast color>? Your stitches got a bit short for an inch or two.....again, very nice.....love the carving......all in all a heck of a wallet!! James
  12. Flyscot... Since Kate must be busy I let you know what I did use...as a adhesive/glue.... Barge leather cement works best, it will be still flexible but also lets you attach the liner to the outside part permanently!! There are people using the almighty 3M spray glue out of the can....there are different numbers, I think what you need is 44, 74 or 77 is for foam....this stuff is expensive too. If you order from STleather, you get the Barger fairly cheap!! Good to know that there are people out there liking Italien bikes....me tooo!!!! Bella Italia!! I can just picture these Laverda's, Ducati's, Moto Guzzi's and all the MV Augustas...ohhhhh these Italiens....!!! haha....had some of them and still dream of most of them.....!! And of course an old Beemer been in my garage several times too....I guess I like em all!! I'll drink a dark beer to you....a Bavarian dark beer!!! Ok, back to the leather work.....if you need any help, info or just plain BS....shoot me a mail! James
  13. Here is a second wallet I made with your PDF/tutorial....it is for a friend in Germany, he is a pro airbrusher and will put all his money he makes with his great art work. Hope you like it! If you ever need anything, let me know....I have some "connections" to Germany, haha.... Greetings James
  14. Ok.....thanks Kate That makes sense now why it is smaller....matter a fact I made one wallet and put a liner in without realizing that the otber part sbowing is actually a liner....haha....must be the age.... thanks for straitening me out....and thanks for the tutorial!! Greetings James
James
  16. I have followed the biker wallet pattern PDF topic from Kate, now I wonder if there are more printable patterns for wallets, biker wallets, roper wallets and coat wallets out there...?? Does anybody have some, or know where to find them...preferably for free....yeahhh, I know I am a skimper...haha....Please let me know if you all can help....got me a new /old Singer 211...cant wait to sew some wallets on it!! Thanks so much ya all....... Jimbob
  17. Got one of them "biker" wallets in my pocket.....for more then 10 years....store bought but I like the style....it is falling apart now it is time for a new one.....so I looked your pattern up which is a tad bigger, good for all my junk I carry. Now my wallet goes together just as ur PDF pattern....exept there is a large part that I can't figger out...I dig the zipper pouch, the little pocket in front....the three pieces for the interior and the large part as cover ( has no stitching lines ) but with holes marked for snaps...now what is the second largest piece,,,almost as big as the cover but with stitching holes and snap buttons? marked....is this the liner for the cover??? I know I sound stupid, made some simular wallets befor....but that pattern dassels me...!!?? And it is not shown what it is for in your picture tutorial... First I thought it is a additional compartment folded and then also sewn in on the outer cover....but that seems almost to much interior... OK, I give up...can you shed some light in my brain... Thanks for the effort to show us and tnx fer helping me out!! Greetings James
  18. Thanks so much for the info.....I had this feeling already..still is a little beauty, so well made and slim look. So what would be a small machine, affordable and easy to drive....for this kind of work? I have seen people talking about Singer 31-15...is this what I woul need...are they out there...and what else would work....I am trying to keep it as slim as possible. Very small space, like to build a micro table for it....shop is getting smaller, to many sewing machines...haha Thanks again Jimbob
  19. I found another 188K and someone has a fitting roller foot set....I would like to do wallets, filigree work and fancy top stitching on bike seats...nothing heavy. WIll this outfit work? The machine has a mount for a little 1.5 amp motor....that would be useless for this kind of work...?!? Any help is needed. Thanks Jimbob
  20. I also bought a servo motor (actually 2...) from Bob Kovar, for my Adler 105-64 and just now for my Singer 211-155.....they work GREAT, very affordable and you can go from one stitch per hour...(seems like) to regular machine speed!! give Bob a call. Jimbob
  21. go and look around localy or craig list for Singer 111-155/56 or the some what newer Singer 211-155/56 some have reverse, some of em not.....you can get them sometimes for 300-600 dollar and they will sew 138 thread or a tad bigger....plenty enough for wallets and even chaps and small belts!! Come on over to the sewing machine section on this forum.....there is plenty info and help!!! Sailrite machines are to small and to expensive!! Get a good used Singer and you are ready to rock!! Jimbob
  22. Wiz Guess I am just a wuss, haha....just dont want to break things....love that old Singer, looks like a tank and hopefully will work like one too. Dont have reverse, but that dont really matter for me right now!! Stitch addustment was a bit fussy but now, when the knob on the floor plate engages ALL the way in I can get some pretty good stitches from fine to very surprisingly large stitches for that kind of machine!! Will be doing some wallets (King style) and chaps, flat work for handbags and some light motorcycle gear. I am sure that machine can handle that. 138 should be the biggest thread I am using here, at least for now! Again, thanks for being around when we all need u and ur advise!! Greetings Da " trainee " hahaha.... Jimbob
  23. yes and one day I learn how to spell on my smart fone...haha... Thanks so much, that was also a concern.....bearings on shaft and to much load here with tight belt.....so for now I have it medium tight, about 1 1/4 stretch allowed when pressured in center of belt. Good advice on hand wheel srews.....need to locate them and see......Bob Kovar send me a Hand lifter level...to raise foot by hand....went in like nothing, no problem...all is fixed. Thanks again!!
  24. Hello ya all I finally have maried my Singer 211-155 to a sewing table And connected the machine head via new v-belt to my new dc servo motor from Bob Kovar.......nice!!!! All is wel and the macine turns and walks well. now my two quesions: is it normal for the small hand wheel to be turned!? I have to give it all I have with my right hand to turn the hand wheel...?! And how much tension would there be on the belt when u press it together wih two fingers???? Like I zaid, it turns fine by motor but takes great effort to turn by hand....is this normal? Thanks for all info and hints up front... Jimbob
  25. I use a Dremel tool and a small drill bit for exessive tick material.....make grooves on both sides, look on top of edge and feel ur way into the leather....guiding the drill to come out perfectly inside the groove....works anytime....I do my chopper seats like that or thick holsters... Greetings Jimbob
