Use Neo foam, like yoga mats, it is closed cell foam, 1/8inch 1/4 inch....very cheap and super durable...BUT not as cushy as open cell foam....if using open cell foam just use stitching foam, comes in 1/8, 14, and 1/2 inch...u can get it from local upholstery shops....has fabric on one side so you can stitch over it !!! Keepthe fabric side up for better wet protection.

Go to leather sewing machines on this forum here...aske for Wizz or Toledo Bob...they can help you in no time....I ave an ADLER 105 and of course 138 is no problem on top....try to play with your top tension wheel and how you route your thread for less friction.....then try different size needle, go bigger and see...your 67 should be able to handle 138 !!! I also got an ADLER 267 and 138 on top works fine too !!! See ifyou needle has nicks or been bruised....is it sharp...?? See if your 138 is left winded or right winded....makes BIG difference !! Check you timing....is your needle hole coming up 1/16 to the hook when it comes arround...?? Let us know what happened...

Andy Yes, Bern....cool place...been there few times....matter a fact I went to my very first Pro knife show to Bern and was hooked into knive making !!! When I cut out the shape of the ammo carier for the lever action rifle....I thought....what are these things really called...butt stock carier, stock sleeves, ammo sleeve, but stock sleeve with ammo loops.....hmmm and then I looked at the shape again and it looked like a bra....well sort off....when not folded... Anyway, what I was trying to say is that I finally done one for myself, these thingys fly off the bench like cracy right now....hunting season...?? Ur cuts are not deep enough, when you start beveling you are all over the place...u need to walk/slide your tool alongside the cut and dont let it jump up when u hit it....do you use a solid platform like granite slap or such....also your designs are too detailed for now trying to learn....the leather seems like it was not wet enough and not ceased right...wet it, wait, wait some more and then let it get back to original color....test tool....if you get a burnished looking tool mark you almost ready to start....start by practicing swifel knife cuts....rounds, straights and such.....controling the swivel knife is 60% tooling !!! Ohh and you did well as a beginner....just need much more practice....guess how I know that....hahahaha.... keep it up and post some more Jimboob
