  1. Well their are good points on both sides for and for not having the strap. I've made and make them both ways. The ones without a strap aint gonna come out it their molded right and the knife is put back back in the sheath where it belongs. On the straps i see lots of them put on where the snap is facing the wrong way and hang on ever piece of brush and limb that it comes in contact with ans their going get unsnaped. In that case IMO the knife is more likely to get lost. Thousands of holster's have been made without a strap to hold the pistol in and i doubt many if any have been lost if was formed right and the gun put put back in right. Plus a cheap gun cost more than $300.00 anymore. Not i would want to lose either one. I hate to lose a cheap pocket knife, change or anything else out of my pocket for that matter. Main thing is people see some big name person doing what ever a certain way or wearing what ever and they want it done or to do the same way, same thing. Wrangler jeans are a good example of that. Next time to run into somebody that has a horse or horses and i bet most of em have Wranglers on. Wrangler spent no telling what to have big name rodeo people to wear their jeans and round here anyway everbody thinks they have to wear Wranglers if they have a horse. It doesn't make it right but that's the way it is.
  2. That's just pretty durn intresting. Thanks for posting the link.
  3. I have had some luck getting glue off with a eraser. Sometimes it works sometimes not.
  4. I use Mozilla and never have had a problem.
  5. Theirs a picture of one threaded in this thread. Click on the link by Barra's name. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5070
  6. Ray give them a sharp stick in a sheath that ought to do it sense it's a 14 century dagger.
  7. Cut your pattern out of poster board. You will need to tape it togeather. Or if you have a feed store of farm supply store close by go see if they have the cardboard that is put on top and bottom of the pallets that feed comes in on. It's pretty big.
  8. Plastic pipe cut to size. Just guessing but i would say 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 ID.
  9. Welcome, Looks like your doing some recycleing on your holster. Good thing to do. You can try out your pattern and if ever thing works and then make one of you new leather.
  10. Nathan i would try to make a pattern out of thin / light weight paper first and see how it fits and if you need to change anything before i tried it with leather.
  11. I looked again and see that it's a ring back by the cantel. When i looked before in the first and next to last picture it looked like a extra concho slid up on the string.
  12. I think you did a fine job !! Only thing i don't care for and i see it lots on saddles now is extra long rope strap. Looks to me like when you undo it it's just hanging in the way unless you take the time to wrap it back up and buckle. One question whats the extra concho on the string for by the seat ?
  13. You could put a piece of raw hide in it to stiffen it up and you can cut it to any width you want.
  14. Sharpen it first. Keep you weak hand behind the blade incase it slips out of what your cutting. It may take a little bit to get used to it but their far ahead of any other knife for leather work. Pratice on some scrap and i would get a white cutting board from wal mart or some place like that to cut on, the knife won't dig into that like a poundo board. I use a piece of non slip stuff they sell to put in cabinet to keep dishes and cups in place under mine to keep it from slipping. I'm not sure what it's called.
  15. I've never made one but i don't think the pattern wouldn't be hard to make. Draw a oval for the brim cut a hole to fit his head. Save the piece you out of the brim for a pattern for the top, it might need to be a little bigger for a sewing allounce. Put a piece of wire in the edge of the brim to shape it with ( seen where somebody else did that). Then make it as tall as you want. And you have a hat.
  16. What i ment was to try the claw hammer to see if weight was the problem.
  17. Nice knife !! Andy you probley need a bigger / heavier mallet or maul. Are you using one of the wooden mallets or mauls if you are you need something heavier. I'm guessing that what's would be in the kit. Take a piece of scrap and wet up more than you think it needs to be try it and see what happens. Or take regular claw hammer and try that and see if it makes a better impression.
  18. What do you want for the books?
  19. I use Fire Fox to. It's lots better than Explorer.
  20. That is a nice picture but he didn't use a high dollar camera. It was Nickon D70. That is one of their lower priced cameras. The closest thing i seen when i looked for one was D90 and it was like 500.00. Taking pictures is just anything else pratice makes perfect. A high dollar camera doesn't do it by it's self. I have a couple DSL cameras and lots of my pictures aint that great..LOL. You might be surprized what you can do with your camera if you just mess with it a little while. As far as the redyeing i'd try it a scrap piece first. Hope you post a picture of it when you get it done.
  21. Very nice work Sly !!
  22. Click on your name " when your logged in in" in the right hand corner and a menu will come down and you can get to your PM's from there.
  23. Dye another piece and fold it like you did the first one. Then redye and see how it looks. The colors will never be the same shade ever time if you want to make just like the one your making. Why not take your own pictures ?
  24. Nice job !
  25. Ray you made the right choice. Plus if he laughed in your face when you asked about the job you did the other time and the work you were supposed to get from it, they must of been rolling on the floor laughing the first time thinking we got Ray and he's easy. In the past i have had people come by and ask for a price to fix / make something ( when i was cash poor ) and have the customer say it's to high and leave with a smart a$@ remark. Then come back in a couple of days and want it fixed / made. When i asked why they wanted it fixed / made now when i was to high a couple of days ago. They said well we went and asked some other shops about fixing / making what ever and i was cheaper so were back. Well the second time they were back i was to busy even if i had nothing to do. Kinda like the time i asked a guy for a job and was told i didn't know enough to work for him. A few days later he asked me to come to work for him. Found out he had been asking around and found out that i knew more than he though. I told him if i didn't know enough a couple of days ago, i sure hadn't learned enough in the last couple o days to be able to work for him and NO i didn't want the job. ( It's a pride thing for me i guess ) And i felt durn good about it. The Good Guys won one..LOL.
