  1. You have go through a third party to print first class postage. I can remember what the site is but i have been there. Personally i use priority mail and you get free delivery conformation and free boxes. Plus bubble envelopes around here are pretty durn high priced. And i don't belive that first class is as fast as priority mail. Last week i had a lady send me a money order from the cost of Virginia and it took 5 or 6 days to get to western Kentucky.
  2. That's just pretty durn neat. What are they fasten to on the front ? I bet it took awhile to rivet all of them on there and cut all of them out.
  3. I use a 4 foot square like Luke said and lay a yard stick beside it and mark with a scratch awl or pencil. You will probley need to line one back up on the line one more time to get the full length of the side. Lay both on the side at the same time so you make sure you won't run off. Then cut it off.
  4. Very nice work. I don't think i would do it for a 100.00 a inch...LOL.
  5. Heidi, i have a Pro 2000 from Ferdco and i had one spring break " my fault " in 15 years of owning it. The people at Ferdco are great. I think you would be very happy with one of their machines. John
  6. Some 100 grit sandpaper would probley work if you want to pull the nap back up. Try in a small place that won't be seen if you try it to see how it looks.
  7. The seat and fork cover you need to make from scratch. Well you might get by using the old seat for a pattern but it will need to be cut a little bigger. The rest you can probley use to make a pattern. Get some poster board to use for your patterns and check the fit on them before you cut any leather. If i were you i would get the Al Stholman saddle making books. Their are 3 of them.. They will explain alot of things you may have questions about and how to do them. Tear that bad boy apart and get going :-).
  8. Fabric softner works pretty good to. Just get a little on your finger and rub lightly. But like one of the poster said try it on the back first.
  9. I haven't done but one loop seat saddle and that was several years ago. The best i remember i had the seat laying on the tree and held it with one hand and took a sharp sewing awl and punched two holes from the bottom right next to the bar on both sides. Then marked a straight line between the holes then measured up the seat just a little more than the thickness of the sturipp leather and punched to round holes and carefully cut that piece out. The second loop you can pretty much put where you want it and do the same thing. Like Andy said it's a one shot deal it's right or it's wrong. Good luck on your seat.
  10. I try not to use black leather or dye anything black. But if that's what the customer wants i will do it. I take a paper towel and rub the fire out of it before i put any type of finish on it to get the transfer off. Sometimes it works better than others.
  11. Ear rings are tattoos don't have anything with a person being able to do job. I don't think. But around here their are a couple of stores that make workers take out and jewelry that is in their nose, lips, eye brows. tounge and cheeks out before work they go to work. That have to cover tattoo's up while their working to. But i live in a pretty small town. Tattoos that are well done look alright. But i see so many that that look like drunk monkey did the work it's not even funny. One guy i worked said he was going to get a tattoo and i told him to look at work the tattoo artist had done. So he could see if they knew what they were doing. He didn't and got a crappy tattoo it's not like you can erase it and start over if they make a mistake. Ear rings and other pirceing's can be grabbed, then the other person can lead you around like a little puppy if they want to. The streached out ears are going to make plastic surgeons rich in a few years when folks don't want them any more. What's cool when your 18 to 25 sometimes isn't so cool when you get in your 40's and 50's. IMO I don't have either one. But if somebody else wants them then it's their business. I may wonder why they did it but that's just me. John
  12. Hi Ray, Lucky you getting a new toy !! Santa Claus came early to your house. But then again if he brought it on Christmas Eve he wouldn't had room for anything else..LOL. Looks like your new clicker has a new room / shop to live in to. I can't belive you took all of the fun out of it by getting a crane to set on your porch. It would been more fun to get it on the porch with a couple of strong friends...LOL. John
  13. Here ya go. Shes left handed so it backwards for me. But if your left handed it will right for you. If your right handed work from the right instead of the left like she is doing.
  14. Spinner it looks like you have a good start. One thing i think you need to do is either make the pictures bigger or have open to another window where their bigger and get close up picture. One other thing you need a different color back ground on the one burnshire for sure it's hard to see the burnshier and the Dremil i guess it hooked to disapaers with both of them being gray. Just my though's but when i go to buy something i want to be able to see it with a bigger picture and some detail.
  15. What basket stamp do you have and the size. One more thing whats a fador tool ? I've been doing this along time and never heard of that before.
  16. The threading wire is used to push the thread down through the machine to where you can get ahold of it then you thread the needle. I've made them out of a piece of tie wire. But the made for it ones work the best.
  17. I keep all of my leather rolled up. It's the best way to store it. One thing NOT to do with chap leather for sure is fold it up. You will never get the wrinkles out it. Or i never had anyway. When i order chap leather i ask it to be sent rolled if they say they will only fold i go someplace else.
  18. Hi John your pad looks pretty good to me. On the next one i would round the corners instead of them being square espically if you use a heavier piece of leather to keep them from gougeing your shoulder. Where you have a bow tied is that hat keeps the sling tied to the rifle ? If it is i would suggest try tieing it like this. Start just your going to tie a knot but go around with that string two more times and then pull both ends. You have a knot that won't get caught on a limb and come untied but it easy to get undone.
  19. Gary i belive your a 100% right, cause it sure sounds like they just want to see your ideal and then claim it. I got a email the other day wanting to buy some things in bulk and they wanted to know the prices of what i make. I told them the price range and all they wanted to order was the highest priced item and they didn't even know what they were ordering. My first though in the very first email was it's a con and i was really sure after the second email that it's a con. Their going to pay me a with a stolen credit card, fake money order or do a charge back. I left it alone.
  20. Finger carving in the leather world is like pen striping in the custom paint world. That finishing touch to great piece of work. Or it it's way to me anyway.
  21. This country has turned in to a whole who's name are you wearing instead of i got a quality product for my money. I had a guy come in the shop one day wanting a billfold patched. I told him i could fix because it was made out of plastic. Well he came ungluded and said i was a lier. That is was a some body's name brand. That it cost $500.00 and came from NYC. My answer was so what. It's still made out of plastic !! It's the same thing with Harley branded things. Customers would come in and want motorcycle chaps and want to know if they were as good as Harley branded chaps. I would tell them mine were better. That they were made out of one piece of leather not several pieces sewed togeather. Their reply was Harley makes these and they have to be better just because of the name. People are so eat up with the DUMB A$$ you can't explain something simple to them like that these big companys sell the rights to use their name to some company that's going to use the cheapest materials and labor they can to produce the product. The big company makes money off of their name and don't have to do a thing. Even when i told people that if Harley made all of the things that are sold with Harley on them their wouldn't be room enough room to park in Wisconsin because it would be one big factory that covered the whole state. Just like that guy says " You can't fix STUPID !! "
  22. Hit them harder or get a heavier mallet. I've used a bunch of them over the years and never had that problem.
  23. I belive your problem is the material is seperating and the rivet comes out. Try punching a circle out of leather then punch a hole in it and use your rivet. The leather piece will act as a washer.
  24. Clutey, chrome tan leather is a softer leather that comes in alot of different thickness's is is used for jackets, purses and such and you can't carve it or stamp it. Or i never have any luck doing it. Vegetable tan you can carve and stamp it. C142 has both types of leather C154 looks to me like it's all chrome tan leather. To tell you the truth i was surprized that you are able to own a gun in the UK. I though they had done away with all of the guns. Most of the folks i know that shoot very much around here reload because it's it's cheaper. But if you have to jump through all kinds of hoops to be able to get permits i understand why your not reloading.
  25. Depending on the bag your asking about some are made with vegetable tanned and chrome tanned leather and some are made with chrome tan leather. They look like their sewed wrong side out and turned right side out. My guess is you will need to make your own pattern. Something like 10 across and 5 high. 50 12 guage shells is going to be heavy if you wear it very long. My question is where are you going to put the shells you have shot ? I'm guessing that your going to save them to reload. If you are and make another bag it's going to need to be bigger because i doubt you'll take the time to arrange them after you shoot espically if your shooting trap or skeet.
