  1. I have worked on a few hunt seat saddles. But never have done the knee roll. The one's i have seen have a piece of 4 to 5 ounce suede on that part for the a better grip i guess. Just a guess but i think their filled with wool flocking i think it's called ( the same thing they stuff the pads with ) or they might be hair stuffed. Mast was the only place i ever found that had the hair. Or you might try neorprene something like a 1 inch thick and trim it down with a electric carving knife. You might ask around and see if anybody has a old neoprene pad that is tore or their not using most of them were about inch thick.
  2. Congratulations on your win. You have some nice work. The frogs are me favorite !!
  3. Do you have a better picture ? That one is pretty fuzzy.
  4. Nice work Spinner. I really like the way you carried the gusset up on to the top to make it watertight when the top is closed.
  5. I never have heated a holster. But you can put it in a box with hairdryer just make sure you check on it pretty regular because it will get hot inside the box.
  6. You can make your own pattern theirs nothing to it. I have made several. Take a dress makers cloth tape and measure across the back and down the front to where you want them to fasten and add a couple of inches for fold back where the buckle or strap will go. Make a pattern out of poster board so you can cut the length of the top piece and bottom piece. Then draw what ever style design you want them to be if you want something different than a straight suspender.
  7. Here's a couple of links for a Turk Head. http://www.folsoms.n...s/turkshead.htm http://www.2020site....ksheadknot.html . If you search how to tie a turk head knot on goggle theirs lots of different things about it.
  8. I built a new shop about 6 years ago 24x36. It has a 12 foot garage door on one and a 3 foot door on the other. Sheetrock celieing with 10 ins. of insulation 2x4 walls with 3 1/2 insulation. Pegboard on all of the walls. My friend got almost enough pegboard for free and gave it to me. The shop stays 10 to 15 degrees cooler or warmer than outside depending on the season. Electrical i put plug in's ever three foot and wish i had of done 4 plug in's in each box. I put plug in's in the celeing so i can just plug in floresent lights and move them if want. After 6 years it's still a work in progress. I'm building shelves and cabinets as i have extra money. All ready had a bench / table that i have used for 20 years. Next project on my list is a seperate tooling table with inlaid granite stone. Then a work table and then use the table i have now just cut out on. Leather storage is on three racks i built just for storage. I do think the 24 x 36 is a good size. It's big enough to grow and have room for odds ends. Build as big as you can afford and then add things as you get extra money unless you have already won the lottery . I do wish i had of run water out the shop and at least roughed in a bathroom and shop sink.
  9. Most of the time when somebody says weight / thickness it's in ounces in the U.S. Folks from other parts of the world may say Milli Meters when their talking about weight / thickness. If they say number 1 2 or 3 or A B C or D their probley talking about the grade of the leather. Number 1's and A's being the best grade.
  10. That's just pretty durn neat !!
  11. I use 3/4 ounce to make the strap and line it with 3/4 ounce slick leather / hair side out on both pieces. But you should probley ask because i had a couple of folks that wanted suede on the inside.
  12. Thread it though one hole keeping the big end of the short strap on the bottom of the strap. Then go down one slot / hole and thread it back through the big end of the short strap. Then take the end and thread through a slot/hole on the top hook it to you guitar and you set. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dirtclod50/stuff%20i%20made/G1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dirtclod50/stuff%20i%20made/G2.jpg
  13. Lay the pliers on a piece of poster board trace around them. Then add 3/8 to 1/2 around the traced line and enough to fold over for a flap in the back for your belt to go through. Measure how far up you want the pocket to be and cut a piece of leather 2 to 3 inches wider wet mold it over the pliers tack down let dry and glue and sew both piece togeather.
  14. Here's a link showing one used. I made a couple out of scracth awls if you don't to buy one. Cut your awl on angle and the use a whet stone to smooth it up then polis it on a buffing wheel. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=9037&hl=clayb&st=0
  15. With the metal in it's kinda hard to work and move your wrist but if you take the metal piece out it's almost like having nothing on. I still use mine once in awhile. The metal piece slips out or the one i had did anyway. The brace i have slips over your hand. One good thing about the wrist support thing is they don't cost alot to see if it helps. This is the type i have http://www.drugstore.com/qxp167911_333181_sespider/ace/wrist_brace_with_splint_support_right_medium.htm
  16. Shorts i messed up my wrist to the point i could hardly move it scoupeing a ton of feed a week for a couple of years. Then i got a Ace bandage for the wrist, one with a piece of metal that fit inside and it helped quite a bit. I did take the metal part out and just used the bandage part for a pretty good while but it did help.
  17. Unless the knife all ready have a bevel ground in the blade i just hold the knife where it's comfortable for me. No ideal what the angle is but it's generally a fairly flat angle. I go in a circlular motion to when i sharpen a head / round knife because it works best for me. It may not for you. After i sharpen i use a strop that i made from a piece of plywood with 2 pieces of gray cardboard glued on it just like a poster on here suggested here and it works better than the leather ones i have used for years. One side has green compound and the other has white compound.I made mine about 3 inches wide and about 25 inches long with handle. That size came about because it was size of the scrap. But i do think the longer strop you have the better off you are with in reason.
  18. I was younger and it was a cold january day here in Maine, so I decided to leave my gloves on. Yeah, that was not good! The blade caught the glove sucked my finger onto the blade, luckily for some reason it kicked my finger back and broke it. Better than cutting it off. It happened to my trigger finger, Thank God it didnt cut it off!! Dustin i know a guy that did the same thing except the saw got his whole hand in the blade. I don't remember if he lost any fingers or not. But i know he had a bandaged hand for months. Ben that wheel is hanging on a wall in the shop just remind me not to ever do it again. Plus a couple of fork covers are laying around so i find them once in a while for another reminder of what not to do...LOL. Lessons you pay for stick better than told lessons.
  19. Here's a picture of the wheel.
  20. I made this one for a customer several years ago.
  21. Don't lay a knife on a shelf above the grinder / buffer either !! Reason i know not to do that is because i did ONE TIME. It fell and hit wheel while it was running, tore the wheel up, i noticed after i finally found the knife. Lucky it didn't hit me or my dog.
  22. They look like regular small rivets that have been peened / mashed without a washer on the side that's showing.
  23. I can't help with any information but their neat tools.
  24. Funnygirl go to auto parts store and tell them you want to look at headliner spray glue. They should have 3M or another brand that should work.
  25. Nice job ! Is the vest flexable ? I ask because it looks like it's made from vegetable tan leather.
