How Come I Have Never Seen This Stamp In The Tandy Catalogue?
dirtclod replied to newfiebackflip's topic in Leather Tools
It showed Canada when i looked at it to. Yea $22.00 to Canada is a rip off. I've sent lots of things to Canada that weighted a pound or more it was generally around $10.00. But ripping people off on shipping seems to be the big thing now. I've seen things that weight a pound or less and they want $8 and $9.00 to send them priority mail when they can be sent for less than $5.00. -

I read some where that sign was a good luck symbol before Hitler used it. -
American Straight Needle Help
dirtclod replied to grizzlysaddlery's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
If you have the manual it is real easy to set the time. If you can scan the page of the manual where i can see it again i can tell you how. But i wonder if you wound the bobbin backwards or have it backwards. Do you have the thread coming out of the shuttle pulled where it needs to be ? Did you look at the needle and make sure it's in straight to where the hook catches the thread ? Is the hook broke off the needle ? Is the needle bent ? All of those things will keep it from sewing. Put a scrap piece in and open the door on the shuttle and turn it over by hand it will turn towards you and see what things look like. -
It looks like they folded the long part back on it's self before they sewed. I would have to glue it, if you have a guide on your machine you will need to use it if you don't it will be really hard to get a even stich line without and you probley get some puckers. It will have to be sewn wrong side out and then turned right side out. The pocket on the end was sewed on before anything i bet. Good luck.

I've never made one but i think i would cut the leather in a circle if you didn't. The wrinkles i would try rubbing them out or as much as i could. You may still have to put a seam or two in.

Help Designing Makers Stamp
dirtclod replied to Mechanical Cowgirl's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I would put your name or shop name plus town and state. My stamp has 13 letters in the name and 12 in the town and state and it looks fine. Just going with a logo might work if all your business is local. But what if somebody from another state sees your stuff and wants to order something. At least with a name, town and state they have someplace to start looking. Plus i would have a web site with the same name you put on your stamp. -
To punch a hole just squeeze it . To chage sizes of holes grab the wheel and turn it, you don't need to unscrew anything. I've never seen a tube that doesn't have a hole in it. You will probley want to rub some bees wax or parfarin on the tubes when you punch your holes. When their new the tubes want to stick. You can get leather straps from http://springfieldleather.com/store/ they will cut to size.

American Straight Needle Help

What kind of problem ? I don't have one now but had one for several years. -
I think they mail the invoice to you.

I got the one size smaller and they sent it UPS last summer. It weighted 70 lbs i think and that's UPS's limit as far as poundage i think. They sent it free from Nevada. When i got mine they had the weight of plates on the site. But when i looked this time the weight wasn't on there.

Justin i don't know how other folks figure things. But say a average side is 20 square foot. Figure the square inches, 2880 square inches for 20 sq. foot. then i divide the price of the side by 2880 and get my cost, then double or triple that to take care of some of the waste. Labor depends on skill level and what folks will pay in your area. Don't sell yourself short though. For a fender i would measure the widest part and how long it is and figure that as my cost of materials. The same for the leathers to. Their is probley a lot better way to do it, but i'm pretty simple and like to keep things simple. Their is a guy that sells a book in the LCSJ telling how to figure prices.

Looks like harness leather to me. Latigo is generally a burgundy color.

Billio i would get a file folder lay the knife on your bench with handle off the bench. Then trace around the blade. After you have the blade traced add 5 to 6 mm to both sides of traceing for the welt and clearnce. Cut that out, trace that to another piece of folder and add what you need for the handle. The piece that folds over the handle on the front will need to be wider than the back and the blade to cover the handle. It looks like to me.

You can try Aussie Leather Conditioner i belive is the name it's in a yellow can, Neetsfoor Oil, Blackrock, Lexol, Picards Olive Oil and Skidmors all of the are conditioners. One important thing don't over do any of them or you may get to soft. Put a little on at a time and wait for it to dry and see if you need more.

Like i said before i haven't had any problems with Steven of his company and i have bought from them for 10 or 12 years. Not once has anybody i talked to on their end been short or hatefull with me. They have always been nice and helpfull. I've never had a problem with any of the advertisers on this site and i have bought from several of them. What really gets me is the people that it seems have never bought anything from them giving negative comments. How do you know if their service is good or bad ? It seems like the Mob Mentality has kicked in. A couple of people had trouble and now they must be terriable folks to trade with. But how many thousands of satisified customers are their ? I don't know but they must be doing something right to be in business for a 100 years. Nobody's perfect or nobody i know of anyway. I do know some that think they are though. Mistakes are going to happen and that's a fact ! Yes i have voiced my complaints on here about Weaver's and i still think i was ripped off on the shipping. But that's life, i don't have to trade with them. That's a choice i made. Another choice i have made and will keep making is to trade with Siegel's. I placed a order today for around $300.00 . It should be here in about a week that's how long UPS takes. Opinions are like Butts and Belly Buttons most everbody has one.

Why don't ya just make your own pattern. I don't think it would be any problem. Get a file folder and put the cards on the fold and mark it out the size you want cut out one side and you have a pattern for the other side.

Question About Halter Making
dirtclod replied to RobDude30's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
Hi Rob, their are couple of things i would change on this halter. The ring needs to be on the chin strap instead of the throat and you need a connector to run from the throat to the chin. The ring needs to be on the chin. One other thing on your next one i would put a piece around the ring that goes from the chin to the cheek piece to keep the nose from falling down. I have attached a drawing showing what i'm talking about. But the best thing if your going to make some more halters would be be to get some halter squares. They will make attaching the cheek, nose and chin all togeather a lot easier. And a ring with a triangle or loop and ring for the chin. You did a nice job but i think if make the changes it will work better. John -
If you have a rack or shelves you put your leather on i would make sure their not right against the wall either espically the north side because of the humidity.

I'm sorry you have had a problem. I have bought from them for years and never have had a problem.
-
That's a good ideal.

It is a piece of work to be proud of without a doubt ! Nice job !!

I think i seen that Siegel's had some awhile back in several different colors.
