  1. Hi! Does anyone have any thoughts about the "Dürkopp Adler 205-370" machine? What would be the best use for a machine like that? What limitations does it have? I do know it's kind of high priced, but besides that.. I'm used to older machines ( - 1940), and not sure what I can expect from a newer one..

  4. --Good luck with the search for the truck! I drive a F-250 7,3 2001 and I love it! It pulls anything! We buy and sell horses, and this truck it great for pulling heavy trailers! If you are used to work on your own truck, F150, then stay with Ford. If you've learned to work on one brand, it's always easier to stay with it since a lot of stuff is the same on different models.. What I know about the competition, Chevy has had problems with diesel pumps, and Dodge trucks aren't always that comfortable. On the other hand, Chevrolets Allison gears is great, and so is the Cummings diesel.. And yes, Fords early models of the 6.0 might be a good thing to stay away from.. Maybe have a look at www.thedieselgarage.com? Rik
  5. Hi! You can always use www.jetcarrier.com for shipping to Sweden.. It's cheap, they handle tax and custom, and you can buy leather from any supplier in the US, because you get your own "post adress" in New Jersey. Don't have to think about who ships internationally or not.. I use jetcarrier for shipping truck parts for my US trucks here in Norway. It's fast and cheap, you can choose boat or air.. BUT remember, the customs in Sweden will most likely add a good piece of "tull och moms" on the leather when you import from the US.. Since you are lucky enough to live in a EU country, I guess you can import from Germany without "tull och moms"? Have a look at http://www.heidelber...er.de/index.htm, maybe they can help you, not sure about their prices though.. Rik

  10. I haven't tried to sew something like this before But there is a first time for everything.. Does anyone have any thoughts about using moose leather for a bag like this? I'm worried that moose leather might be a little too "stretchy" for a "travel/carry on bag"? Or? Other suggestions for a nice leather type are also welcome! Thanks! Rik
  11. Hi! Not sure it will help, but.. This is how we made one of the saddles that I ride.. Honestly I'm not sure how heavy the inlay was (and we did not pad it), I stole the red leather from the bootmakers shelf..
  12. Hej Knut! Kul med svenskar här! Är också svensk men bor i nabolandet.. /Rikard

  14. Hi Chris! I haven't made any sandals, but some boots.. Not sure this will help you, but here are some suggestions: As you say, there is always www.shoemakingbook.com.. You have seen their book "Simple Sandalmaking"? Maybe that is the same that Tandy are selling..? Maybe you can find some info at "The Honourable Cordwainers' Company"? http://www.thehcc.org/ They too have an online forum.. And they have some old books about shoemaking that you can download for free.. There is also http://customcowboyb...dshoesforum.com Hoping you can find some help! I have found that it's not that easy to find quality litterature on shoemaking. I was lucky to find a really good boot making teacher! Good luck! Rik
  15. Hi! I've been sneaking around the site for some time:) Live in Norway, I've made some saddles and boots.. Spent some time as a "student" with Jack Jones - "J&J Saddle Co" in Crawford, NE. Hoping to make a living as a saddle maker in the future.. Here are pics of some of the saddles and boots I've made. Rik

  18. Hi! Last week MY grandfather gave me a Singer 29-4 that HIS grandfather used to sew on! + (a lot of old hand tools) I've spent the last days cleaning and fixing up the old (from 1896!) machine again.. The spring (part nr 8619?) on the thread tensioner on top of the machine broke into small pieces.. Does anyone know where I might find parts for such an old machine? It might of course be possible to find another spring that might fit, but original parts are more fun.. Thankful for any help! Rik
