For an accident/experiment the final result is really nice. I can't tell you to keep up the good work, or I would be contributing to your delinquincy.

I am on the understanding that ClayB's dog licks the icing off the donuts. Eat them at your own risk. Zack you might also look into getting various knives - headknife, utility knife, etc. as well as craft glue and rubber cement to name a few things.

Help!
joet replied to tgardner's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
The Fiebings dye is spirit dye and the antique paste is water based, so they are not compatable. Unless I am mistaken, you shouldn't dye over paste with any color. Always dye then antique. The only thing you can do now is to start over with the process. -
Nice work Holly. I've always have admired your work. And the person gave you plenty of time to get the items done before Christmas.

Here are a few I made up a couple of years ago. I hope the picture makes it in here as it's been awhile since I've posted pictures.

I've had good luck making ornaments using cookie cutters, both the plastic kind and the metal. Press the cutter into the leather, cut and paint. Back issues of Make it With Leather also has a few ornaments shown, if your lucky enough to find them.

Beautiful work, Anne. Like others, I thought the box was, say 12"x14", but having seen your slide show I can see the scope that went into it. Congratulations on a job well done; and I hope to see a picture of your bed frame when your done.

I too am sorry our paths didn't cross. Your work is out standing and looks better in real life. I saw Johanna at a distance, but didn't get the chance to say hi to her. I'll be at the Indy show come high water or heat, hope to see everybody there.

IFoLG 2008 Show in Columbus, Ohio
joet replied to Art's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
I'll be there with my family either Wednesday or Thursday. We're aiming for Thursday as we'll be going to other places first. Hope to see several of you there. -
You are doing an outstanding job, keep it up. I was wondering if the hacker was from PETA? Wouldn't put it past them.

I live about 8 miles east for where you are moving (Pueblo). You might think about joining either the Pikes Peak Pounders or the Columbine guild in Denver. The Pounders meets every third Wednesday of each month at the Tandy Store in Colorado Springs at 6:00. A lot of the members drive long distances to the guild meetings as do I. Look me up after you get moved. Joet (Joe Talbott)

I am currently planning on making the half size saddle. I found the tree for it, but it calls for 2 ozs., 1/4", 18 Gauge aircraft nails. Where can these things be picked up at, and what do they look like? This is the last item I need to complete this saddle. Or will something else do the job just as well?

Looks nice. I especially like the chicken track made by the grass tool. I too have not posted much, but I'm trying to get back into it again.

another belt on its way out the door

What tool did you use for a backgrounder? Interesting concept design and neat at the same time. -
Very good job from what I could see of it due to glare. Hands and faces are some of the hardest things to draw and carve. Practice makes perfect.

I also like the Hide Crafters Cocobolo burnisher. I have read in another group that some people use deer antlers for their burnishers and edgers. Cut it to size and put a handle on it, or use as is. Some people swear by it.

http://www.wickett-craig.com/ is the web site for this company. I have tried several different kinds of leather and keep coming back to them. They are reasonalble and shipping is quick. They will also split some types of leather for you free of charge. Hope you have as good a luck with them as I have.

Another job well done. Mistakes do happen, but it's how we correct those mistakes that help make us better crafts people.

HideCo, LLC assumed ownership of Hide Crafter
joet replied to ClayB's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
While in Ft. Worth for the IFoLG show, I had the oprotunity to visit Hide Crafters. While there I met one of the new owners (Greg Sartor) and we talked for some time. From what he told me about the catalog, a new one is being made up, but won't be available until some time in the spring. So the current catalog is the one being used until the new one comes out. Greg Sartor also told me that the new owners had all kinds of good plans for the company. A lot of the current items will be continued, but they will also bring in a lot of new items never before sold by the store. I guess we will all have to wait a little longer for things to happen as it won't happen over night. From what I did see in the store, there were several empty bins. Most of these are the items being discontinued. The full bins were full to overflowing in many cases. If you want a lot of concho's, most of the concho bins were full and I have never seen so many concho's in one place as what was on display and what is for sale. There was also a large selection of patterns and DVD's. Tools were at full capacity from what I saw. The leather selection was large and many people who I saw in the store were busy shopping and buying. I am awaiting the new catalog and hate the idea that I have to wait as long as I have to. But you can still use the old one until the new comes out. -
LOL! Is that the one I saw outside of Amarillo along side the road? Must have fallen off the top of the car. Seriously, we left before you, right after the deligates meeting. Decided to spend the night in Amarillo and get up early the next morning, but over slept. Just as well because of the snow on Raton Pass. Congratulations on winning the best display. Joe

My question Kathy is how did you fit that traveling trophy in your CRV? That thing is huge and takes up a lot of space and Pat said that he wasn't sure how you were going to get it home. Joe

When I first started leather crafting over 30 years ago, I would case by putting it in water until the bubbles stopped coming out. It would take many hours to dry and if I was in a hurry, it just wouldn't do. I then went over to using the sponge or dipping the leather for just a few moments and that seemed to work fairly well. Then I sprayed the leather. I found there would be areas that got more water than others and I would have to spray again. I have gone back to the sponge and bowl method with ProCarve casing solution and I find this to be - for me - what works the best. If I will be working on a project for a long time, I put something, tracing film or some other type of plastic, over it until I am ready to work on it. I will re-case my project just before I place the plactic over it; and it will be ready to go the next day.

Due to The Leather Crafter's and Saddler's Journal holding the copyrights to several of the articles that will be posted on the site with their permission, my only suggestion is to call them and request the issue if it is available or article . After those have been posted, when he writes new ones, that may be an option. http://leathercraftersjournal.com/Back_Issues.html Thanks, but I have that issue, just too lazy to look it up. All my leather mag's are in a couple of piles. And the piles are in the basement (need I say more?). I used to put them in notebooks, but got side tracked and haven't done it for many years. It looks like this would be a good time as any to do so. Thanks to the two people who sent me more information by email; appreciate it.

Is there any way to save these to a disk or hard drive?
