A person on a nother forum wanted a cross draw with a belt tunnel instead of a loop this is what I came up with. THe pattern is easily adaptable to different cants and can be made to fit any of the Navy, Army, Remington percussion revolvers. It is also adaptable to most of the single action Army types as well.

Do a light burnish just enough to smooth the edges a little, then dye. Then burnish to get your final glass smooth edge.

Samuel, I was not offended at all, just trying to point out some things that may make it difficult for you reach your goal. You might think about revising your kickstart page to say that your goal is to get a laser to improve your products. You may want to offer free lazer engraving of a donors name on there wallet at a certain level other then the $330.00 donor. You are getting our help just in a different way then you thought you would.

I agree with most of the above. It is difficult for us to give you are support when we don't knpow you or your intentions. I agree the amouint you are asking for to produce your one product is a considerable amount. You don't clearly state what your you intend to do with the money you are asking for. It certainly does not require $8,000.00 of tools and materials to produce your one product. After 20 years you would think that you already had most of the tools you would need espescilly since the product you are making only needs something to cut out the pattern and something to stitch with. Even if you decided to mechanize and get a clicker and a sewing machine you would need far less then $8,000.00.

One of the big things I see is I don't like the way the metal clip sits up on the left side. It looks like when you go to draw and you try to get your hand around the grip hou stand a good chnce of hitting that metal clip with your hand. On your straps that you talked about if they unsnapped that easily it is probably because the socket was not fully seating on the stud. usaually the reason is that you used a screw that did not seat low enough to allow clearance for the socke to seat all the way down.

Here is a link to a build it your self portable workstation. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=55010&hl=workbench

How to make Grey Dye
camano ridge replied to tat2's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Doc, if you buy standard steel wool at the hardware store it needs to be cleaned dip it in acetone let it dry, take a torch to the steel wool if you get any flame frome the steel wool let it bur. then put your steel wool in the vinegar. To get a good potency let it sit for a week or two or longer if you can stand it. Take a test piece dip it and see how quick it turns black. If it takes a while let the roon continue to age. after you use the roon on leather make sure you give it a dip in a baking soda bath then rinse with water. For good information as stated above there is the link posted and a couple other threads on this site on Vinegaroon, also take alook on CASCITY.com forums under FAQ, How toos and look at making old time dyes. Lots of good information on roon. -

The wax and oil fills the pores of the leather and covers the surface of the leather. By sanding you remove the wax and oil from the surface and rough up the surface giving the glue something to bite onto. All though I do not make shoes i use Weldwood Contact Cement for all my projects. I have glued hot stuffed leathers and others with oily waxy surface and the glue has held for me. The important thing with Weldwood is apply to both surfaces let dry to the touch, about 1/2 hour. Then put the two pieces together and give several hours to set.

Start Of Zombie Holster
camano ridge replied to Quillleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes

You can get a bad piece of leather I supose where all of itcan be loose grained. My experienc has been that I find that problem mainly in the belly and neck area. Try a piece more toward the back area of the shoulder and see if it behaves the same.

It would help if you could post a picture of the breast collar you wanted to upcycle so we could see what it would take. For the most part you should be able to. You can buy ready made fringe or make your own the fringe would be sewn on or riveted on. Again it depends on what the collar looks like to determine the best way to do it and be able to make it look like it is suposed to be there. Just seen conrad and i posted at about the same time. i will agree with him that it can be a bit of work.

What part of the leather is it Red? I tend to find more of that kind of wrinling in the belly area. Because you are getting that on a piece does not necassarily mean you will get it on the whole side or shoulder.

Keep Black Dye From Running Off When Wet.
camano ridge replied to paracordman's topic in How Do I Do That?
Yes use a different dye. I use Eco FLo Proffesional black, I don't seem to have any problem with it. USMC black will take a bit of rubbing after it is applied to get rid of rub off. VInegroon is the way o go if you want to take that route and it won't run or rub off. -
Black Brass 4 Piece Snaps. Where To Get Please
camano ridge replied to joefriday's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Check INdex Fastners they have several sizes. http://www.ifithermoplastics.com/category/fasteners -
Go over to cascity.com to the leather shop forum click on the FAQs how to and you will find indepth information for making vinegaroon, coffee and tea dyes and others. Tell them waht you want to make dye from and people like Chuck Burrows and others will probably have a reciepe for you. With walnut dye what you really want are the husks not the walnuts them selves. You will want to mass or chop the husks in a garage sale blender ( do not use your wifes blender, you may be thrown out with the blender). You will boil the mash.

Gator On Horse Back (Butt)
camano ridge replied to camano ridge's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ihave used horse butt for sheaths, pocket holsters etc. It sometimes cuts a little harder then veg cow and tkes longer to get wet when molding. The only thing that i can sy about horse on the negative is that it can be very in consistent in thickness. A lot of the butts I have bought al thought they may say for examole 5 -6 oz may very and be more like 4 - 8oz. I have bought butt from several places and have found the same thing from all. It also dye differently then cow. by that I mean if you dye a piece of cow and a piece of horse at hte same time with the same applicator etc. you will see a considerable difference. You can get some nice grain in horse that when dyed adds to the overall appearance.
