I am afraid I have to agree with BDAZ. If I were to look at that mark on an item it would tell me nothing. You would know who made it but know one else would. THe makers mark shouldbe just that who made it. Initials are not going to tell anyone that. If the name of the business is JAJ custom leather then your makers mark should say that if it is J.A. Johnson Leahter then that is what your makers mark should say. When you read the makers mark there should be know question as to who made it.

As an average that might work. Some one 6 + feet would be different then some one 5' 6" also on some one like me with a little extra meat between the front and back 14" would be up a little high for me. Personaly I find the thumb loop to be more comfortable then the thumb hole.

I have come to the conclusion that I have a massed a sizable arsenal of dummy guns. They no longer fit in the two drawers that I had for them and even in the drawers you have to dig through the ones there trying to find the one you want that is usually at the bottom. I have a GP100 lost in the shop somwhere and several others laying here and there. Looking to see what inovative ways you are storing your blue guns, dummy guns or what ever you want to call them. Show pics if you have them.

Blackriverlaser.com has a rifle sling acrylic template you can put a thum hole in it or a thumb strap on it. It also has cutouts for inlays. I have the template and it works well. It is cheaper on their ebay store. There are several sling patterns in various editions of The Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal. I have all of those patterns if you want any of the measurements PM me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-RIFLE-SHOTGUN-SLING-TEMPLATE-SET-FOR-LEATHER-CRAFTERS-NEW-FOR-2013-/130837614009 I did not see the other rifle sling tempalte on their site tonight, however if you call Joyce at Black River Laser I am sure it is still available.

Malicious Customer,advice Needed.
camano ridge replied to Redochre's topic in Marketing and Advertising
It sounds to me like probably her husband was not happy she bought it and now she is trying to come up with an excuse to get her money refunded. Don't feel dishartened you are dealing with people, and from time to time things like this will happen. The only reason you feel dihartened is because you take pride in your work and feel you did everything right. One of the problems with ebay, etsy etc. is the feed back, you can feel like you are hostage to it and have to do things you don't want to. You have two obvious choices give the money back or accept the negative feed back and move on ( you have already told ETSY what is going on). Be aware that even if you give the money back you may still get negative feed back from someone like her. Also as an aside do you have a return policy stated and is that return policy being adhered to by both of you? If you do not have a return policy you might want to create one. -

Leather Mold Press*
camano ridge replied to crossdraw's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Right now Harbor freight has there 20 ton press on sale $154.00, 12 ton $129.00 However it does not sound like you want to spend the money on them. Are you looking at building one from scratch. If so by the time you buy the correct steel, a 12 or twenty ton jack have welding done or buy bolts and other hardware including springgs, you'll find your self not to far from the harbour freight price. There is a member on these forums I don't remember if it is Dwight or Denster, one of them made one using lumber and I believe a couple of members have made theirs using his concept. It seemed to have worked fairly well for him until he swithched to vacumm molding. I will see if I can find the thread with the press. Ok it was Dwight. Below is a picture of his press, Fairly easy to build. He swithched to vacumm molding. Vacumm molding will give you better results. and you can get started with vacumm molding for around $100.00. Both Denster and Dwight have threads on their vacumm set up and how to make your own vacumm bags. The nice thing is you can do some of the detail molding through the bag. -
Last time I ordered from Zack WHite i called and asked about the shipping charges. The lady I spoke to said that the standard shipping price is what they list and that if it is less she refunds any overage, she also said they choose the cheapest shipping. I ordered 1 horse butt the shipping was $16.00 and they shipped UPS ground took a week to get it after it was shipped. It would have easily fit in a large Priority Flat rate for $15.50 and I would have gotten it in a couple of days.

I forgot about that one, seems you posted that link before.

I am not sure there is a chart for all of the companies, least I have never found one. Wyoming Slick had a pretty comprehensive one for craftool on his blog, unfortunately he took it down. I think if you go to ebay he still has an article on craftools there that has some good information. If you search these forums for stamp chart you will find a conversion chart for old and new craftools, you can find the same chart on Tandy's site. I found Wyoming slicks chart posted else where on the forum here is the link. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=20664&st=0&p=136255&hl=+craftool%20+index&fromsearch=1entry136255

Repurposing Decorative Rivets From Old Belts
camano ridge replied to linstone's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Ok, thatwill give you some problems getting it set. Lay a piece of leather on a hard flat surface, place your rivet head face down on the piece of leather this will protect the face of the rivet but give you a firm backing. If you don't have a rivet setter place something hard like a peice of metal over the base of the rivet now hit that withthe mallet. Not ideal but shouldgive you better results. Also you mentioned the stem on one of the rivetsbent, that may indicate the tivet was to long for your application. Ok, tha twill give you some problems getting it set. You can even cut a hole in a second piece of leather nd glue on top of the first this will give you a little well to sit the rivet in. Bona Allen And Us Mail Bags. How Were These Bags Stitched?
camano ridge replied to unclecol's topic in Leather History
Not sure what machine might have sewn it. There are some on here that might. However I am pretty sure you could do it on a Cowboy 4500 or similar machine. The Cowboy will do 7/8" leather. -
Here is a link that has some information that may help http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=55511&hl=%2Bscroll+%2Bwork#entry355508

Bona Allen And Us Mail Bags. How Were These Bags Stitched?
camano ridge replied to unclecol's topic in Leather History
Below are pictures of a 1950's Bona Allen mail bag probably similar to what you are working on. It appears to be machine stitched to me. -
I have seen pictures of them used in holsters for sale and confirmed with Jason at Duncans that they made a casting of the Raging Bull about two years ago. Do not currently have any available. Was wondering if anyone on here had Mold/ Dummy gun for the Taurus Raging bull they would be willing to rent. i would pay postage both ways. PM me if you do.

Awl Is Tearing The Leather On One Side
camano ridge replied to Southernleather's topic in Sewing Leather
Joe, beat me to it, I was saving a picture as he was posting. You are using what is called a scratch awl or round awl it pushes the leather apart and to close to the edge in thinner leather can lead to tearing. A diamond awl will slice through the the leather with little effort if properly sharpened. The leather will some what self heal around the thread giving a neater looking stitch hoe. Below is a picture of a diamond awl jus one of the many variations.- 12 replies
