Make A Open Cuff Case Out Of Leather
camano ridge replied to n8wzw's topic in Patterns and Templates
THere is a book of Law Enforcement patterns available from Springfield Leather for around $60.00 http://springfieldleather.com/21780/Book%2CLaw-Enforcement-Patterns/ I think your best bet is to use your handcuffs and mold the leather around them like Ian does for the knife in the video. -
It does not look like it was based on designs found on line. It looks to be a copy of an original design created by one person. Seeing a design on the internet or ina book and copying it then selling it is a form of intellectual theft. Your brother looks like he is probably a decent knife maker. So have him come up with a design more his own then come back to see us when you are not trying to make money off of someone elses creativity with out giving them credit for it.

Holster Lining Questions I Can't Yet Find Answers To.
camano ridge replied to Tallbald's topic in How Do I Do That?
Tallbald, I am not going to add much to wha thas been said. However it is as simple as it seems. I cut out my holster lay it on the lining material flesh side to flesh side draw a light line on the flesh side of the liner remove the holster now I know where to paint my glue. I glue the entire area with in that line then extend the glue a little over the lines (I won't have to worry about lining up exactly). Glue the back of the holster. Let glue set appropriately. THen press the two pieces together. Now cut around your holster to free it from the rest of the lining material. You now have a flat lined holster. Sew the edge of the holster at the mouth (top end) and at the toe. SHape your holster around your gun or mold as normal. Stitch the main seam. If you get any wrinkling on the inside at the fold use a hammer handle to rub some of it out. If you want a step by step with pictures (it is a little more complex but not much) to the holster sling sheath forum and look iin the pinned section for the California holster pattern and tutorial, click on the tutorial Jim Simmons walks you through lining a holster his way. I think he does the same in his tutorial for a western holster also. -

Stiffening Leather
camano ridge replied to Red Cent's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Red. My kitchen oven goes down to 170 degrees, I set it at 170 and put the holster in for about 10 - 15 minutes. 30 minutes at 500 should give you something akin to a dried prune and about the same color. -
Not sure what you are defining as really, nice, solid. By exclusive do you mean custom made for you? Is this for hard sided or soft brifcases, are you looking for hinges, latches, locks, corner caps? Here are some places to look, if you have not already done so. Ohio Travel Bag Hardware elf http://www.hardwareelf.com/elf/latchesandlocks.jsp scroll down toward bottom of page. First Try At Overlays'
camano ridge replied to Eaglestroker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Good, now I won't have to hunt you down and turn you into a holster. That holster is a nice home for that Ivory gripped pistol. -
Show us a picture if you can.

First Try At Overlays'
camano ridge replied to Eaglestroker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Before you start calling people names, you should have all the facts. Since the elephants will be legaly killed anyway would you prefer their hides to be left in a pile to rot. I see you use dead animalhides as well. As long as he is using legaly obtained hides what's the problem. The leather industry is not driving the killing of the elephants. The source of all African elephant skins come from culls once the elephant heard reaches destructive numbers to African tribes and nature. It’s very similar to our deer season in the United States. Without culling, African tribes would loose their homes and possibly become trampled to death. Designers, manufactures, and leather enthusiasts should not feel emotional or have guilt for using this leather as we are not creating a demand rather using a by product. We deal with reputable international partners who abide by all regulations and we never sell poached hides. -
The older cast iron ones had a black face on the head not the shiny Tippman Boss cover. If you look at the picture of the serial number plate around the bolt hole where the black coating is gone you can see silver metal looks like aluminum not Cast. He cast Iron ones are about ten or so pounds heavier. The Aluminum ones weight around 25lbs. If you call Tippman and give them the model andserial number they can tell you for sure.

Don't know where you have looked, here are some places that I have gotten mine when some one requests a plastic paddle. I prefer to make my paddles out of leather Don Hume style. If I remember right Uncle Mikes also has a plain paddle. http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=41_56_415 http://www.tacticalholsters.com/category/Accessories.html http://www.blackhawk.com/product/CQC-Paddle-Platform-wScrews,328,82.htm

I don't have any hard numbers, however a quick google for "holster maker sued" brought up several results. Man sues holster makers after shooting himself at courthouse CHICAGO (STNG) - A man filed a lawsuit against a handgun holster company Wednesday, claiming a defective holster caused him to shoot himself at the Markham Courthouse in 2007. John Bruno, a Lockport resident, was at the courthouse, 16501 S. Kedzie Pkwy., on Sept. 21, 2007 when he intended to re-holster his weapon, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. As he attempted to put the gun back into the holster, the weapon unexpectedly discharged, the suit said. Bruno is suing Bushnell Outdoor Products, Michael’s of Oregon, Co., Uncle Mike’s and Kale Uniforms, Inc.—the companies that manufacture and sell the Kydex Belt Holster for Glock Model handguns—claiming the product was defective and caused him to shoot himself. The suit claims the holster’s retention strap moved out of position when a weapon is being re-holstered, which causes the gun to discharge and, in Bruno’s case, caused him “severe” and “permanent” injuries. It was unclear why Bruno had a weapon at the courthouse, and his lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday evening. http://www.wbbm780.com/Man-sues-holster-makers-after-shooting-himself-at-/5239054 http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1994-07-20/news/9407200320_1_holster-fatally-shot http://www.ocregister.com/articles/gun-258109-angeles-shot.html I am not saying the sky is falling and all holster makers should be shivering in their boots. But it does happen and there are probably more not publicised that have been settled out of court by insurance companies etc. Even if the person filing a lawsuit looses it can still cost the defendant thousand in attorney fees.
-
Once it gets to court, you may not be held liable. However anyone can sue anybody for anything. City's and buisnessess (even small buisnesses) settle what are called frivilous law suits out of court all the time. Even if the suit has no merit by the time you compute hours going to an attorney, hours going to court cost of the attorney etc it adds up pretty quick. Just the attorney fees even if you don't go to court can cost you several thousand dollars. Many times a particular city I know of (and this is true of most city's) have paid $5,000. - $10,000.00 to some one who say, twisted there ankle (supposedely) stepping off a curve then files suit for $200,000.00 with no intention of getting that much but know they will get a a few thousand with out even having to work for it. Can you be held liable for some one elses stupidity there are many cases that prove you can. As mentioned earlier. Look at the lady that bought a hot cup of coffee from McDonalds dumped it in her own lap then sued McDonalds.

I don't know if you consider this confirmation, it works for me. Vegetable tanning is a method of tanning that uses tannin, a natural chemical found in trees such as quebrachos and mimosas, to cure the hides. These trees are often specifically grown for the chemicals. According to Matt Bessler, sales manager for Wickett and Craig Tannery, there are only two full vegetable tanneries in the United States, one being Wickett and Craig, located in Pennsylvania. The company was established in 1867 and has since grown into an 180,000-square-foot facility. Wicket and Craig boasts more than 4,000 active accounts, with Louis Vuitton as one of the company's biggest customers.

Posting a pic of your first tooling is the best way to improve your second one.

My guess is that they re directed you to a Canadian supplier is because shipping to Canada and customs fees on 10 Hides may very well be more then $2.00 per square foot. I am not sure HO is a better brand then WC I belive they both have their strengths and weaknesses I have used both. I use Wickett and Craig all the time for holsters and they are very stiff. I have gotten some HO from SLC that was much stiffer then Wickett and Craig but it was also very dry and I think that contirbuted to the stiffnes.

A little while ago there was a topic Tandy Vs Herman Oak Leather, it got a little off topic and they were discussing the Square up card reader. I thought I would post this link it is a good comparision of the Square Up, Intuit Go Pay and Paypal card reader payment programs that allow you to take credit card payments anywhere. They all alow you to enter a card number with out physically having the card, there is a slightly higher fee. Thought this might be intersting for anyone who is thinking about it or trying to find a way to take payments. http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/square-vs-intuit-gopayment-vs-paypal-here-mobile-credit-card-processors/#!MIk0d
