  1. are there any tricks of how to space my thong chisel holes or anything? should my strap for outer edge over lap the circle piece? or should i just join and lace them at the edge of the stool?
  2. I just stylus my letters on through the paper on soft cased leather...then swivel knife the letters and bevel around the letters then i matt the outline as well for texture afterwards...... one thing i wanna try is to bevel inside the letters rather than around them and do like pyramid style bevels on letters..... hope this helps some....
  3. All the posts i seen on 3 legged stools lately brings me to my wooden stool....bar stool.... I cut out my circle to tool...which is the seat face.....I am wondering what options i got in order to lace/braid a strip of leather several inches wide that i will mold over the top side and attach to the tooled circle...... if there are any pictures, suggestions and or comments i would sure appreciate some direction in this new venture.....I will be going the direction of celtic knotwork on this piece
  4. Jbird....i like your wallet.... I do have a question about your bear.....inside your bevel groove around the outline of the bear is darker than the rest of the piece.....how did you get that effect..... for example: Did you put extra layers of dye or stain? (if so how did you apply it) or is it just lighting or did you slightly case it for picture?
  5. this answers my question about the thin blade on thin leather....it did exactly what you said the other day....makes sense once thinking about it. What about these Hair Blades? what are they for/?
  6. Hey all, I am wondering....on any one project do you use different swivel knife blades for your purpose of stand out lines and such? For instance do you use thicker blades on outline of image to project it more? or anything of the sort? and what types of reasons would you do this and what blades for which type of lines.....if this is clear question...(i hope it makes sense....often I understand what I am saying but no one else in room does hahahaha)
  7. can you lay the bracer flat and photo it from above so i can see the contour of the edges....i am curious in the pattern layout.....i like seeing all these diffrent bracers....I been making straight lined ones and trying to understand the patterns used by people....It takes me a while to process stuff like that....anyways it would be nice to see..
  8. well we will see how long this pice will last me for now...alls i know is it is way darned better than any other surface i used......
  9. WOW these bracers are my fav I have seen so far!!!
  10. I am left to wonder what it would cost to buy somthing like this....I am guessing about 2000.00 canadian....so whats that in yankee dollars? 20 bux? hehehehe that is a little canuck humor. seriously though would 2k cover that?
  11. I will give my 2 cents here for question 1 I used a plastic cutting board from tandy (thinking it was special plastic lol) it turned out this was hoorible to use I tried my one inch thick plywood on my bench i made with 4 x 4 posts for legs and it was to bouncy I then tried 1 inch of steel used tof a surface to tool on and when doing punches and such i used the cutting board on top of my steel this worked amazing well..... but get frustrated with my bevels.... Finally after reading about granite on this site....I went on a hunt I found a wood products store that caries granite for countertops....I bought a remnant (left over piece) 1 inch thick and is polished on one side for 50 bucks......black granite....which i am told the grey granite is even better.... I used this piece of granite to tool on last night and i tell you instantly all my tooling has improved ten fold ....accuracy of tools and the consistancy of the dispersment of of impressions (bevels, matting tools and stamps) has all astronomically made a difference..... So My 2 cents is use 1 inch thick granite....i bought a piece that is 12 inch by 17 inch....well worth the cash...... and it looks flipping fancy dancy pancy..... i love this site!
  12. For what ever reason I thought it would be the man in BLACK......
  13. I think I would have GODSPEED or ...and Justice for all or A boy who fought A man who thought A victor who sought or trust clean help
  14. This made me wonder how a collaborated piece from all members on here would go...every one get a task to contribute and send it to a coordinator and everyone put something on it/..... that cue case is the first flower piece i actually liked it is amazing....was the maker in the pic?
  15. can you actuia;ly drink out of these? will they work for tea or coffee as well? I would think not but pleas etell me i am wrong
  16. i was left speechless! I just picked up a soft tail seat and i wanna tool a seat for it....never done nothing of the sort before...if i fail miserably ohhh well....i will try again...lol I wonder is the seat you did textured oddly? or the lil bumps a background you did>?
  17. also the celtic pattern book from tandy has belt type knots in it that you can custom do lengnth and ends with ease
  18. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! thats flippin awesome.......lol I have now recalled in school when guys carried a comb in their back pockets hahaha Maybe you should make a leather handle for one the fro picks to....so when it sticks out of the fro the handle is fancy ass...thanks for the giggle in remembering the mid eighties.... ....by the way....the carving is good...i hope one day i do this type of quality.....
  19. I was told that the acrylic spray on sheen can be removed with warm water on a sponge.......then a dry rag......i have not tried it yet though........
  20. for shotguns.....you can ge a molded piece piece of plastic that bolts on the reciever as well....that would be neat to put a tooled leather strap over for decoration. as far as these neoprene thingsgo over the stalk I have one on my gun and love it except its to flexible....so i considered making one from leather and then molding it to the stock......the touble I have is sewing as i have not yet tackled that beast.....also i dontlike the idea of being forced to use flex starp for the shells......the shells will always fall on the ground when you are manovering through the woods.....so if you camn find away to snug a specific shell in a leather strap would be awesome i think...... Also....with stretchy straps....only the center of the shell casing is held down.....and I have experienced the projectile(bullet) end of the shell getting wet and causing discoloration and have concern of water getting inside the shell and bullet casing....I know most people would say impossible....but if on a 4 day hunt and its raing every day and i am bushwhacking in the mountains calling elk.....I want to ensure the bullet end is dry My offered solution: ??? Well if you form a leather molding around the shells to a specific calibre and line it with a water resistant lining to help keep the bullet dry.......spacing them so it can be sewn or riveted (small tiny rivets) on to the main part of the stock wrap.....and make it so only the primer end sticks out about a half inch......then also put a strap that is snapped to the side of the cartridge molding that goes over the primer end of every shell....and maybe line that......making it so that cap can be used in rain or snow and taking off the rest of the time.... Points is dry ammo and a case that wont drop ammo when trudging through rough and thick brushed terrain especially willow thickets and such..... Does this make sense?
  21. I think i may have one or 2 solutions.....I hunt alot and stalk animals....and I started leather working.... First the one piece leather idea is on track....and yes this can be made as an adjustable piece even if it is one piece....the only downfall to position it you need a screw driver to undo the chigao screw....but there is no hunter i met that tops and adujusts equipment in midst of a hunt thats crazy making...... second....using veg tan i have bnn succesful with quiet 2 piece straps as well.....the one where you tool and goes to the front swivel on rifle.....then a strap that you run through the oblong punched holes twice then pass the strap through itself...this one is very adjustable......like a guitar strap.....i need to utilize this one in practicality though now.
