  1. Greg; I would pick a project and go from there, get a starter kit and make something you want or need. It could be a dog collar, a belt, watch band etc. Kevin.
  2. Maybe a stapler, there is one that uses a longer staple and bends the ends over, some cardboard companies use them. It might be suitable for leather if the cost is reasonable.
  3. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I can never get my 104 that crisp and detailed. I thought you might have used an 888 for that. I 'll keep practicing
  4. I put this together today, room for improvement but I'm happy with it for my first eye glass case. I'll do better with the next one. Thanks for looking! Kevin.
  5. Try either the cardboard or the leather, it won't adhere as well if it's only on one surface. Pull the cardboard away from the leather when removing it and not the leather from the cardboard.
  6. This might be a long shot but can you glue them? Quick and cheap!
  7. Are you putting rubber cement on the cardboard and the leather ? Kevin.
  8. I bought this dvd a while ago but it doesn't work and I'm waiting for a replacement. No point carving oak leaves until I see it. Kevin.
  9. Hi Jessica; I always made my own patterns for guns, tracing around the outside being sure to leave extra for the filler strip along the edge. Make it out of paper, you can make several patterns if you need in order to get the pattern you settle on. The first one you make in all likelihood won't be perfect so don't expect it to be, just take your time and do the best you can. Perfection comes with practice and you can always improve the results. Look at all the holsters posted on this site for ideas. Kevin
  10. Stohlman's method has the needle going through the thread on the working end of the thread and the link above has the needle going through the running end. Kevin.
  11. Konrad; You can buy leather protection, I haven't used it so you might want to try it on some scrap leather first but it's made for leather. One of the suppliers on here may have something as well if you contact them directly. http://www.leathermagic.com/Pages/UVgrd.htm
  12. You might consider buying a dog collar kit just to get started. You'll get written instructions and everything you need. Kevin.
  13. I was once told not to drill leather for sewing as it removes material and makes for a weak stitch, the awl just forces the leather apart and retains the strength of the leather. Kevin.
  14. You should be able to wet it, pin it down tight and let it dry. I've had wrinkled lining, pinned it out flat then glued the leather to it then rolled it with a roller from the hardware store that I bought for gluing some formica to wood.
  15. I once owned a Mark I, I had the front sight milled on it making it a ramp sight. If you aren't using it for target practice you might consider ramping it. Kevin
  16. JD; If I was turning a maul I would want to use quarter sawn hardwood. That would give you the end grain on the striking face of the maul.
  17. If you download an over sized image such as 968 x 648 or larger it will resize it automatically and you'll see this on the attachment "Resized to 62% (was 968 x 648) - Click image to enlarge" Kevin.
  18. My stamps are square to withing 1/64" but there is a burr on some edges that should be cleaned up. You might have better luck using a square or straight edge to place the stamps against, although I haven't tried it myself.
  19. Ellen; There's a double swivel knife blade that would do that or you can buy the stamps, that's all I can offer. Kevin.
  20. If I want to clean excess dye out of the impressions I'll use a shoe brush. I sometimes run the leather under warm tap water, let it sit till it looks like it's starting to dry then tool it. I also do the same thing, bag it and put it in the refrigerator over night then tool it. Thicker leather I'll wet both sides. Search for casing leather. Kevin
  21. Well this little job is done, already to stitch to the case when I get my leather.
  22. Ellen; Did you see the George Hurst demo on the Tandy site?
  23. Thank you Historybuff. I bent a spoon today and it looks great!
  24. Very nice, is that an oil finish? Kevin.
  25. I use a steel framing square, works for me. If the leather has a curl I'll clamp it down prior to cutting. Kevin.
