  1. I will try to remember to stay on your good side! I thought your post was going to be about bugs eating your leather .....it was, just a different kind of buggers.
  2. Welcome from the West Coast, keep posting away!!
  3. Closing and locking the shop for a break. Smudged some detail work, ruined some stitching and smashed my hand. Day wasted.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one, . . . sorry to hear about yours, . . . but today may be better.

  4. Thanks Jax,I appreciate the info
  5. Ahhhhh that is what I wanted to hear. I have most of the Stohlman books you list, which I find really dated in style but good for techniques. It sounds like I need to visit the store and have a look through the book before deciding if its for me Thanks
  6. Thanks veedub I am gonna ponder it a bit. Bit too busy and lazy to travel to the store, so would be doing online order.
  7. My September Tandy flyer says Retail $314.99 Sale $259.99 Gold $239.99 Elite $179.99 My membership is due, so would be renewing it anyways. Is it worth having? I can't find anything that shows it's contents
  8. FO Baird Leather Secrets is on sale at Tandy for $179 for elite members. I know this is a reprint and not the original, but is it worth it at that price? I am really tempted, a copy on E Bay is over $225.
  9. Thanks for posting that, I will do it more now So simple: sand and paint, sand and paint... That is how those edges look so smooth
  10. Good for you Adam, those are very handsome bags
  11. Really well done Great execution of your design Love it!
  12. Love it , something to aspire to. Wanted to re-do my Mustang's fake plastic interior in leather, but family grew and the car didn't
  13. I think all of us have been fooled by pleather at one time or another
  14. Nice and clean, very classy
  15. Had a lady in my office with an attractive black and tan satchel bag. The girls were talking about how nice the bag was, mostly b/c of the label attached to it. I could see it was clearly not a leather bag so was babbling about how people get fooled by the name brands and that seems more important than real materials, craftsmanship and quality. I had a good close look and said it was a really nice bag...and kept my mouth shut that every inch of it was vinyl. This is ok if she knows what she is buying, but I think a lot of consumers get suckered in and fall for the marketing and branding. The counterfeit market is huge with ladies bags as well. It reminded me of this video I saw on leatherworkers. I could feel that false grain that the vinyl had from the paper backing.
  16. yes it will!!! I got a hard time for pointing that out in another thread but it can
  17. That's Purdy!!! Nicely done
  18. I am playing with writing paper and scotch tape to try to duplicate it. There is a triangular base with tapering sides, but I have to keep fooling with it so it folds and covers everything. Maybe upside down capital T Hmmm you got me going now! There is a picture of a tote I made in my gallery with one piece side gussets and base, but it is not as elegant as the one you show

    Embossing

Packing tape on flesh side or glue it to cardboard before embossing or tooling
  20. It is a lovely bag in shape and manufacture. I watched the video and to me it looks like the bag consists of only two pieces of leather. The side gussets are simple folds and internally sewn and the base looks like triangular shapes folded from each side piece and stitched down the center. I would think a thicker insert is placed into the base from inside for shape and support It is hard to say and see exactly from the site though. I would fool around with some paper and see if you can duplicate the look with folds and make your own version. Let me know how you make out
  21. Great job doing this yourself, a fine project! When I ordered some cabinet scrapers from Lie-Nielsen, they came in a fantastic, thick leather pouch. It was one of the things that started my interest in leatherworking Ohh I missed the link in your first sentence oops My pouch is a bit darker and flatter, but that is it
  22. Fantastic edges as well Nice case!
  23. I think this is a perfect way to store leather How many horses so you use for each hide?? I would run out of room too fast in my smalll space Excellent point of keeping it away from under or near your bench....dust,glue, dye spills etc could easily destroy a nice hide Like to see a pic of you saw horses in action Cheers,Scott
  24. Awesome , thanks!!
