  2. I used mine to seal up my boots....works great!
  3. Nothing worse than selling something and then having to replace it with inferior and more expensive equipment when you decide you need it again. JMHO if you got the room and can find the $ somewhere else...I'd keep it
  4. Like the last bag a lot Great overall stitching, initial's stitching and rough shape for flap edge are all cool
  5. Aside from the holes and stitch issues, the rest of the wallet is awesome! Like the design and colors
  6. Excellent work, very professional looking
  7. For my .02 cents, look at Springfield leather for sample packs of tooling leather http://springfieldleather.com/30018/Pieces%2CTooling%2C2-lbs-Bag/ They are inexpensive, MUCH better quality than Tandy and a great company to deal with. Tandy is a good place to start out with tools, courses and leather, but as you move away from kits and want to do your own custom stuff you will want to move to higher quality tools and better leather. Still, Tandy does a lot to get people interested in leather work Cheers and best wishes
  8. Hey Rory, I found the horse is way different than cow. Horse soaks in water much less readily when you case it, is a bit harder to stamp, tool and cut and takes stain differently than veg tan cow. Even smells different than cow. The horse leather just feels more dense and tighter grained so you have to test it out before diving into a project. But it has a wonderful grain, feel and look....and these were just scraps! I highly recommend trying Springfield's horse scraps Cheers, Scott
  9. I kinda went the other way I bought a set of five half round vintage Osbourne punches a couple months ago from Sheridan leathers. The are stout, sharp and well made and will out live me to be passed on to one of my kids
  10. EBL is some gorgeous stuff..I saw your guitar strap post I did my first Springfield order a couple months ago and got some Herman Oak and horse samples......really great stuff, love Springfield
  11. Thanks for that dyeing explanation.....will experiment a bit with it myself
  12. Hello from the Vancouver area I can't believe your hockey team is still in the playoffs and mine is out! This is a great forum to learn from, spending late nights searching and reading threads....then the tool lust begins and the hardcore addiction sets in!
  13. Very handsome bag Looks well made
  14. Ok WOW First post and you knock it out of the park! This is really beautiful in every way
  15. I think it is a cool product Have ordered some to try it out. Thanks for the heads up! Scott
  16. Wow that is Purdy! I love the front flap and stitching, let alone the tooling is magnificent
  17. There is a great write up on making dice cups and such in Al Stohlman's The Art of Hand Sewing Leather book http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/61944-00.aspx?countryid=998
  18. Yep I am all good. No oil stain transfer though I had some veg tan in intimate contact with rolls and scraps of oil stained. I re-organized my two shelves of leather in the garage shop, keeping the veg tan to itself (and keeping the good stuff in the house!) and quarantined the oil tanned stuff Thanks again for this reminder, even found some leather I don't remember buying.
  19. wow, gonna go re-organize my rolls right now! Thanks for posting this
  20. Great looking bag Love the looks you create in the leather with stain and dye
  21. Welcome and great job! There is so much to learn and this is a great starting place. Prepare yourself for late night reading threads, tool purchase addiction and some great helpful folks. Cheers, Scott
  22. Looks really great You just got my first initial wrong though;)
  23. That's Purdy!!! Great looking wallet
  24. I commented on this before on a critique posting and got shot down for suggesting it looked odd and put the thread at risk It just leaves those threads out there hanging on the edge ready to be severed and open up the seam IMHO
  25. Great application Glad you found some way to put that beautiful bird to use!
