  1. Good to see you turning out such fine work again after your house fire I hope all is well
  2. Hello, Cool project, I am sure you could find a local leather worker to give you a hand I have seen the "Guild" ads in Road and Track
  3. screwing up snaps is a good one too....just major brain fart tripping over the finish line of a project
  4. Been there It is always with the nicest leather too while you are trying to be super careful cutting
  5. Good call Mike...he beat me to it I would add to look for the Hand stitching book by Stohlman as well to give a better background on all methods of stitching and lacing. The books build on each other and cross reference to one another Good luck , Scott
  6. Great job I bet they last forever!
  7. Like to see how this turns out, make sure you post some finished photos in the show off area
  8. If you search portfolios, book covers or binders on here you should find all kinds, some with amazingly tooled covers. I made an I pad case with veg tan and pig lining that serves well. It is in my gallery. The hinge is wet moulded leather with a v groove gouged on the flesh side so it can fold then covered with the lining. Hope that helps get you started, Scott
  9. I think that only a niche market exists for well made custom bags etc. rather than the large market and marketing that exists for the brand name bags. If you can afford to start out small and get your well made product out there, perhaps you can get a following. I wouldn't risk the farm on the endeavour though. JMHO, Scott

  15. Recieved some Tiger thread samples from UK (Leodis Leather on Etsy). He shipped fast and the thread is smooth and solid. Much better than my unravelling thread from a store that rymes with randy

  18. This is interesting to see such varied background of leather lovers. I have been a dentist for over 17th years in my own small family practice. Worked myself through school in a pulp and paper mill and as a hospital lab tech. Leather and wood are my hobbies to unwind when I get time away from work and chores. Also a dad to two great kids.
  19. I guess I should have figured that out what with originalart in your name....oops I would love to see how this wallet finishes out, you have some sweet skills for sure Ps Frankie is my favourite

  21. Hello I am soaking some e-bay Craftool stamping tools in Evaporust right now to get rid of some slight surface rusting and clean them up. I am wondering if I should coat the tool in anything after...oil, wax etc to protect the tool from rusting again but also without staining the leather. If it were a woodworking tool I would use a light coating of 3in1 or WD40. I also have some spray coating, Boesheild T9, for cast iron table protection on my table saw etc. that leaves a waxy coating. http://boeshield.com/ Also some of the tools have their plating chipped off. I am especially disappointed in a nice small bevelller; it has lost a good 2/3rds of its plating. Is the tool toast or can I use it as normal? Thanks for your thoughts.
