  1. It's about 4 oz. leather that I used. My machine is an old all metal one. I would think that any of the ones that can do thick chipboard or matboard would be able to cut the thinner leathers as they aren't as dense as those products. Also, the die has to be one of the steel rule ones, not the chemically etched ones, as they are not deep enough.
  2. There was a discussion a while back about using paper diecutters on leather. I have one of the original Wizard die cutters which are pretty tough and supposed to provide 3000lbs pressure so I thought I would give it a try. I used a Sizzix Tim Holtz tattered floral die and cut the leather damp. The leather cut easily. What impressed me the most was how light weight the pendant is for the size of it.
  3. Very pretty! Can I ask the size of these brooches? It's hard to tell from the pic.
  4. Very nice! Can I ask what colours and finishes you are using? PS. I know you have mentioned before you don't use or make patterns for sale but if you ever change your mind.......lol
  5. Welcome from Pickering, Ontario.
  6. http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/08/large-tote-with-rounded-opening.html If you go down to where it shows how to do the purse bottom, it's the same thing. Sewn straight , then triangles to square off the ends.
  7. Wonderful purse! I'm sure she is really pleased, I know I would be.
  8. Well, there isn't much to see as I lined it. This fabric is probably a mistake as it is a cotton, but I liked the print and can always replace it when it wears out.
  9. Thanks Beaverslayer. I will have to try the others some time . For a previous hobby I acquired a lot of Copics so I'm just glad to have another use for them.
  10. Bluesman, David, Samalan, Thanks so much . Genyfer, the hardest thing I found was that I didn't have the same blending capabilities with the leather as with the smooth cardstocks. I ended up using a lot more of the lighter colours than I would have normally.
  11. I have been contemplating this for a while and finally got it done. This was a first for me to use the Copic markers for colouring the flowers and leaves. It was a learning experience as they behave a lot differently on leather than on smooth cardstock. I used the brown hilite to pull the colours together.
  12. Well, I sure hope that some year I will come to that understanding of flow and be able to run with it. lol
  13. Fabulous work! Thanks for sharing it. As an aside, have you ever considered selling some tooling patterns?
  14. I have tennis elbow, and really had a hard time with stamping, for any length of time, even wearing the brace. I broke down and purchased a pair of mauls from the Bearman and I have to say, they really make a difference. I can stamp for longer periods of time before I feel that I should give things a rest. I don't go overboard but I was able to stamp out a basketweave belt for my dh in one sitting, which would have been impossible before. Your mileage may vary but they have decidely been one of my better investments.
  15. I get the same thing and figured it was from the knurling on the tool?
  16. Thanks for sharing your link . I had great fun checking out your gallery. You do some amazing art.
  17. Since the original poster is in northern Ontario, Canada, I think the shipping costs would be pretty expensive from an american supplier. I could be wrong though :-)
  18. Very creative. Just a question. How do you breathe in it? Are there other perforations besides the grommet holes?
  19. You could go to a thrift store and purchase an old leather coat or two. Normally they are pretty cheap and the leather fairly thin and supple. It would also have some wear which might be a good effect for your steam punk look. I did that for the first leather corset I made. You could even incorporate buckles, pockets and straps from the existing coat for design accents. It sewed fine on my machine and was a much less expensive way to make one. With leather, anything that may get too thick for your machine, like the binding ,can be glued on. Hope this helps.
  20. Thanks for posting. I have tried to get in touch with them by email with some questions and did not get a response, which I thought was odd.
