  1. I just bought my second bag of those, I use them to make bookmarks mostly, or sometimes an overlay on a bracelet. I love those bags, like a Christmas surprise. You did a beautiful job. Cheryl
  2. Wiz I wanted to ask you about wax pots and oil pans and such? Is this something I'm going to be able to figure out?
  3. Thanks Wiz. I know nothing about the industrial machines. I've never even seen a walking foot in person. I'm glad to hear that about jackets because I already have a job to put some patches on a jacket and repair a seam. I asked them to wait until the machine came. I am pretty excited. Thanks again for the info Wiz. Cheryl
  4. Can't tell you much about it, was hoping for some information here. I don't have a picture OR model number but know it was made in 1941 to sew tents in the army. It has a long throat, I think the guy said 19". Can you guys give me some ideas of what I might be getting? He traded up for a new Cowboy or Cobra, something like that at Sheridan. Used it for 2 years before that. He is a prolific LW and turns out nice products everyday so I'm pretty sure it will be a nice machine although old. He said speed wasn't any problem but I imagine it has a clutch instead of a servo, although I'm not sure. I know you all probably think I'm crazy since I know so little but between his LW and ranch work, he is really hard to track down at times. Any ideas on what the learning curve will be after my old singers, and things I should know about old walking foot machines? Thanks, Cheryl
  5. Beautiful bench, really nice. Too bad you're using the Pfaff as a door stop though. These old machines do well with light weight leathers, and make nice wallet interiors and such. Cheryl I edited this to say I'm getting a consew walking foot I figured out that they won't handle every job too.
  6. TLW I am redoing a director chair for a customer and I called SLC and told them the exact dimensions of HO I wanted and they cut it for me. So it's straight on all four sides and I just have to do the trimming now. They are a great company to work with. This is veg tanned leather I bought. Cheryl
  7. Just a piece of seran wrap should do to cover it, don't have to keep it i n the bag. Cheryl
  8. Depends on whether it has dried out. I would just wet it from behind with a sponge and let it leech all over in the fridge overnight. I wouldn't soak it, it will make the tooling you've done already look wonky. Cheryl
  9. Either way would work and you could use lace if you wrapped them. I would do either way on the under side where the crease of the fingers fit over them. Cheryl

Boma, it is very cute and quite a bit of labor. You should be proud. Cheryl
  11. I know some people leave the plastic on the part they aren't working on until they get to it. I don't know what you make so not sure this will work for you. Cheryl
  12. Well here's the finished set with a nickle to show scale. Critique welcome. Thanks, Cheryl
  13. Too true. Sorry Faire I am going to try and work on my mocs today. I got some black elk to make them out of and then I'm going to sew the hair on hide to them afterward. I have other things I should be doing but I actually want the shoes and would make a great statement at the farmer's market. I'll try to post some pics later of the WIP. C'mon folks let's get going!
  14. Thanks Wiz, I didn't think they would do anything, but I wanted someone who knows to tell me. Cheryl
  15. Well not actually singers, my 1-91. The other two are hand crank and treadle. Well I don't know maybe those add on things work with them too, I just don't know enough about them. Thanks, Cheryl
  16. Thanks Renee, I like the idea too. But 2 people have said the silver plate. I knew better than to ask, LOL. Not doing anything on them right now. Cheryl
  17. Hi Harag, not dumb at all. The oval will be a barrette, the next larger one a necklace and the two small ones earrings. I'll put them up after I'm finished and use something for scale. Cheryl
  18. I can't figure out whether to use calf lace or silver plate chain to finish off this set. Opinions greatly appreciated. Cheryl
  19. No Brian, your opening yourself up to being broke the rest of your life, LOL. There's always one more tool you just have to have, or one more kind of leather you want to try I just got in an order of elk, bison calf and soft beige pig lining. And I haven't opened it because I have no where to put it, LOL. And my new lacing chisel is in there too. Cheryl
  20. Brian, I am so sorry none of us mentioned a stylus. That was the first tool I bought at Michaels which has a miniscule leather work area. Had it before the basic 7. Sometimes it's just really hard to think of everything even though I'm going back less than two years I'm glad you have your tools and scraps to start on. Keep everything, you'll be amazed every month how much better you are than the month before. Kinda pictures in the journal of the leather journey. I'm sure you know this already though through your braiding. Good luck and can't wait for the pictures. And awesome on finding a group to work with. Cheryl
  21. Looks good to me, neat clean lines. Not sure what you thought was wrong I checked and didn't see the problems. Good work. Cheryl
