  1. No wax...elephant isnt real smooth and the wax would just build up in the crevasses...
  2. Not to argue, but since i started this, ill chip in again...true, there is no authorized bay to carry a magazine, just like there is no authorized way to carry a gun, but if i suggested a small of the back holster aligned so the butt is pointed down, as would be the natural motion of the hand, not only would i get a lecture on SOB holsters, but a double lecture on proper orientation of the Gun butt on an SOB holster in the first place....do a search for SOB holsters and look...as to the bullets forward orientation...this is what is taught at every police academy and shooting school i have been to in the last 18 years...it uses the same body mechanics as putting your hand in your pocket..it also provides a tactile indicator to ensure the mag is properly aligned in the mag well when reloading in low light, and when done properly with the tip of the index finger covering the exposed bullet, prevents stripping of that round if you should miss the mag well...when you seat the magazine, you simply roll your hand clockwise and you have retained a proper firing grip (right handers)...i have performed several thousand reloads in this fashion, and have never dropped a magazine...now, i will be the first to curse all things "tacticool", but practical is practical and logical is logical, and just because we learned to skin a cat one way, doesnt mean there isnt a better way out there...could you imagine this conversation being carried out by snail mail?..me either...this is much better here are some videos www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxzrahUUTi8 and my favorite www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee6sRECHvas
  3. Yeah, i am very careful about ideas that seem good in my head...ive gotten myself in a pickle or two chasing ideas that seemed good in my head...
  4. Nice work, especially for a first holster...yeah, i would 86 that swivel clip..i think it was meant for a radio or a cell phone...springfield has some really good metal clips you could try...anyways, welcome to the addiction...
  5. So, I repaired the holster with the standard metal clip, i decided that I, the holster maker, probably know a little more about holsters than the guy who doesnt make holsters...and that if he doesnt like the clip, he owns the holster and is more than welcome to modify it as he see's fit, voiding the warranty of course, but one must choose ones battles....thanks for all the support and advice guys, i really appreciate it..
  6. Here is what it should look like...i cant get a pic of the destroyed holster right now, but imagine the clip on it opened up about a half inch...
  7. That's why i have my suspicions that it was well above wear and tear on a two month old holster...he wanted plastic to begin with, i told him i could do plastic but it wouldnt last long, he conceded, but i think he abused it willfully and with malice aforethought...
  8. I pulled out my holster, the exact same model as the one i made for him, but mine is 9 month old, and the clip is in perfect condition..he has had his for 2 months and there is no spring in the clip at all....im just gonna make a kydex clip and see how long it will last...
  9. Well, it finally happened...i have a customer i have known for years, he is quite possible the most negative person i have ever met...i should have followed my instincts and not made a holster for him, but i did and now he managed to distort the heavy duty metal clip to the point its useless...i have a strong suspicion he did it on purpose because he has been asking about getting a plastic clip for the last 2 months...anyway, its too late for me to walk away, so i have to try to make him happy...i can make a kydex clip, but i dont think it will hold up real well. Does anyone know where i can get the plastic clip like Galco uses on their tuck and go or scout clip on?..im at wits end here..
  10. +1 for the W&C drum dyed...it saves me a ton of time, and there is no mess to speak of...occasionally, ill have to dye something to match grips, etc, but thats an exception...when i did dye, i found that dyeing before molding was easier for me...burnishing any part of the leather will affect how the dye takes, so it was easier for me to dye beforehand...
  11. Really Nice Robert...I love the colors and every time I see your double stitch row on your belts it makes me want to restitch my belt...good work!..
  12. Hey Pete, i carry a front pocket wallet, its basically a bifold wallet with credit card slots on each side, and a spring money clip on the outside...i have carried this one for about 12 years now and it is starting to wear pretty hard...i would love to make a new one, but i just cant figure it out..if you start making these, let me know..they are the greatest thing since sliced bread..
  13. Shooter was refering to the actual mag, not the pouch..the belly of the mag should point to your belly for proper indexing of the mag..that way you dont have to fiddle with the mag during a reload...on the same subject, you might want to cut down the sweat shield on the mag...when reloading, the weak hand index finger should lay on the belly of the mag, the thumb should be on the side of the mag closest to the body, pinching the mag witht he middle finger...with the sweatshield so high, it will be more difficult to drive the thumb between the leather and the mag to get a proper grip on the mag...remember, if you ever have to reload under SHTF conditions, your manual dexterity will be reduced...i try to make all of my hosters and mag pouches accessable using gross motor skills..unless specifically requested by the customer...even then i explain this to the customer...same goes with the angle..its an unnatural draw witht he extreme forward cant....what some refer to as "bowling it out"...to maximize concealability, try to set the mag higher on the belt instead of canting it....as always, these are just my opinions, and ive carried every day for the last 20 years, so take them for what they are...your workmanship looks really good bye the way...
  14. when i bake my holsters, that will usually lighten up the threads...dont know why, but its always worked when i hand sew with waxed linen...
  15. My strangest was a clip on IWB for a full size sig with a light and laser attached...after 18 years as a LEO, i still cant quite wrap my mind around tactics that would require CC gun with a bunch of tacticool crap attached to it...
  16. Bravo Chris, I was struggling with a way to say the same thing, but it never came out quite as smooth as you put it...
  17. I ended up dying it..lol...the dye losened it up a bit and the contact cement made it quite pliable...
  18. looks good george...wait until you get a request for a concealed carry for a smith and wesson 610 with a six inch barrel...lol...thats my strangest one yet
  19. that is some incredibly thick leather youre working with there...any specific reason?
  20. somebody has been putting a lot of hours in at the work bench...great designs all around, execution is spot on...i like the less boned in look...i have been doing alot of exotics here lately, and i love not boning in a bunch of detail...i think it looks more like leather and less like plastic...its a very classic look...your double row stitching on the belt is really cool..i may have to try that one of these days...
  21. try to let the leather dry ut a bit more before molding it...that is one of the things i see most often, and a mistake i made as well when i first started...i dip my holsters for about 5-7 seconds, then let it dry for about 5-10 minutes before i try to mold it...when its dripping wet, it wrinkles up pretty bad and any tool mark will really stand out...ditto on what the other guys said, stitching, and grip space...the only other thing i see is edging...that is an art form in and of itself...check out hidepounders sticky on edging...there is a insane amount of info there...welcome to the forum and keep at it...you'll soon find yourself in a sea of leather bits and tools wondering what life would be like if you werent a leather addict..
  22. just make an extra pocket, either outside or inside, but make the pocket with a gentle curve in it to stop the gun from swimming in the pocket..
