  1. A friend from my hometown sent me two pictures of tomahawk holsters he liked and asked me to make one or the other for him. So I combined both holsters and made one interchangable holster for him by using chicago screws instead of rivets. I also added grommets too just because I think they make it blend better for his style. I only charged him $18 but what the heck. I obviously didn't make a profit from the item but it was fun for me to play with something new. I have never sold an item because I don't make ANYTHING in bulk and usually just make cool renaissance things for my family.
  2. Thanks! Funny you say that. I made this for my Mom lol. The real size is a good question. The one in this pic at it's widest is 4 inches if that helps. I did enlarge the pattern for my next go round so that the entire back piece is the size of a full sheet of paper (letter). I think I enlarged all the parts to 150% on my printed to make it fit like that. Obviously if you are good with that kind of stuff you could probably print it larger and put the pieces together. I would just rather take it to a print shop and ask them to do it. For the larger one I will do, I too am thinking of making it an actual purse for myself. I think it's really cute.
  3. Steampunk bag pattern from Tandy's site. I just made it the size it printed out on the printer for trial. I am egar to make a large one now
  4. You pretty much just summed up everything I have read as well. I do leather work (and am a major newb still) for fun, BUT at have been asked to make MANY things for people I know. Some day I may make it to really sell and was just reading up on "the best" ways to do things. For instance I have only made one mug (tooled) and it came out pretty nice. Next mug I make I will use a thicker leather and more wax. I took it to a fair once and noticed after I got home that the sun must have melted a TINY spot in the stitching because there was a spec of water seeping through. So that is another note for myself to keep in mind.
  5. Thank you for the response!!! I did buy the envirotex lite, but haven't tried it yet. It is my understanding that it is the closest thing to "food safe" you can get with out the crazy process described above. I also found something called salad bowl finish that can be bought at a quality wood working store. I have so many "wants" to do first before I go back to the mug I made and try all these steps. The wood working salesman did say that most finishes are food safe once cured. With the salad bowl finish, I am not sure if it is thick enough to seal, but I will give it a go as well.
  6. Thanks all! I did make a sole for these (the only way I could think of after the fact anyway lol) because I want to wear them to the ren faire this weekend. I wasn't sure how long such a thin layer of leather would last walking around a place like that. This is the link to the tutorial http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/14813 I strongly urge you to make a seperate pattern for each of your feet.
  7. I found a great tutorial online for these! Next time I think I would add a little more leather to the top (wrap around part). Other than that, they fit amazingly!
  8. I think they look awesome! Are you using all beeswax on the insides? I made a mug once and did the beeswax thing also and it worked pretty well. I was asking a few people that I came across that use the epoxy finish what the exact name of the stuff was called they use since they say it is food safe, and they never tell lol. However I have found 2 since then, but have yet to try it.
  9. I think I got it
  10. I use an online resizer that seems to only resize my pics with this option. If I try to just upload a pic on this site without resizing, the site rejects it lol. I have some playing to do to figure this issue out. Thank you for posting a response!
  11. I am finished with my husbands ren faire leather armor set. I just started playing with leather this past December, and am open to all suggestions. I didn't "tool" the celtic design due to being time pressured ( I wanted him to be able to wear it this season). The black under shirt was made by me last year for a cloth outfit.
  12. They are too pretty to use!
  13. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-5-hp-58-psi-compressor-and-airbrush-kit-95630.html This is the one I bought from harbor freight.
  14. Awesome! I don't know what it is with my airbrush but I can't get even close to detail like that. It seems as it is only good for spraying on the finish. Little lines are just not happening for me no matter how close or far away I am.
  15. I have added thigh guards Will probably be a couple of weeks before I can start on the breastplate.
  16. What part of DE are you moving to? I am located in Newark.
  17. Yes, there are celtic looking dragons and a little knot work type design flowing from the dragons around the rest. The breastplate will (hopefully lol) come down and sit just about on the normal width of the belt. The taller extra sumo part of the belt is basically there to make sure you don't see "belly" when he raises his arms and such I don't have a pattern for the rest yet, but I am guessing from a set that I have seen on the internet and then making it my own way. I didn't tool the designs due to wanting this done sometime this month so he can wear it to the faire. The designs are just kind of indented with a stylus and then traced over with a fine point sharpie. The color of brown is just sun tanned leather.
  18. I am attempting to make a renaissance armor set for my hubby. I found a pretty cool style set online and am taking most of the idea from there. This is just the begining of a huge project and I am certainly still in the trial and error phase.

    Wow! Beautiful! I love it
  20. Over all I am pleased with the eagle. This is my 2nd time doing the double loop stitch and both times I have had troube ending it. Next time I am going to follow the instructions from a thread on this site I found. I was watching the Tandy video to start and then switching to a printed out paper I had since in the video he completely skips how to make the "loop" from the begining point. I later noticed after doing the same thing twice that the video and sheet I was following start on opposite sides......NO WONDER LOL!
