Hi everyone, here is our new lodger. had to kick out the two singer´s and replace them with this one. (they are packed away at the moment) this came with a table and motor which i left with the owner as it was without vaccume. it was €400 and as you can see it is not new but i think it was a good price. it will need a couple of parts which seem to be worn, like the pins on the roller feed arm and possibly the small crown and worm as there is a lot of play?? the roller looks very tired but it seems to work. the stone needs cleaning and i think that´s about it, but it works great at the moment. i had to clean it a little and change the knife feed button as it was worn. the feed was very stiff so they probably used pliers to move it and thus wrecking it. anyway there was a new knob in the box. so i oiled the feed and cleaned as far as possible and now it moves a lot freely. small belt is cracked so that is another on to change. the stone pulley looks old but again it is working fine. a little wear on the top plate where the guide goes and non original knob for the guide. the knife protector seems to be missing a piece of metal that held it in when inserted?? not sure, so cardboard under there at the moment haha! this all seems to match with my high tech fortuna stringer table . here are some pictures, i am hoping to do some serious wallet´s in the future so i am sure once i get the hang of it this will prove very useful. any comments welcome about anything i have missed or types of feed rollers and feet combinations. this has a rubber roller with a springed scraper installed and feeds pretty good what i have tried so far, some chrome tanned and potro (horse).

Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500
jimi replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Wizzo, that´s some nasty marks left by those feet?? i would have thought the whole point of these walking feet machines were not to mark up your leather -
Hi There, this guy shows you how to change the knife and do all the settings, very good video. that is a deflector inside the bell and pulls out, you will see it on the video. i will be in your situation possibly next week. good luck and hope to see your progress. oohps, sorry deflector is not in this one, must have been another video. will look for it. i think your ejector will be just pushed in? there should be a thread in the middle of the ejector to screw a long rod in so as you can place it inside the bell knife, otherwise you risk cutting your hand!

Hi Alex, have you checked the size of your feed dog? new the two teethed one should be 15mm total and the knife type13mm.
-
OH, that´s a bummer, none of them lying around? maybe you could get it welded around the bent end and the holes filled in and if you have a machine shop around or someone good with a lathe he could bring it back to size again?? they call it buttering. 45k56- no reverse. i think that is your machine.

great job Alex, well done. your getting nearer to the goal!
-
they usually come bolted to the pine wood base and have a box lid with a key to lock. mine has this missing, but if your machine was without the base then maybe that is where it got knocked? underneath. iam almost 100% sure if you can see underneath then you will find the problem right away."yes they came on a iron stand also"
-
yes! but take pictures before you loosen anything? can you see the shaft underneath??
-
Oh i have one of them and they have little arms and shafts that move all over the place what make was the fur machine? i would think it difficult to bugger up one of these frobanas as they are solid sods.do you have it bolted to that pine underneath?
-
Alex, you could maybe try to loosen this screw also? i think it just blocks the shaft? if the machine is not bolted to the base you could probably see things better from underneath??
-
i would try and follow that shaft to see what is happening? must be a cam or something on the other end?? you also have a strange looking feed dog on there, i have only seen the 2 teeth type. i dont think they made 4 but i am not sure. this is for rubber soles, the one for leather is a knife. also you can see the difference between a used one and a new one. "someone done the teeth sloping the wrong way in the old one".
-
If anyone wants a copy of the manual in English let me know. its too big to upload in PDF or i dont know how to??
-
Yes alex, the feed dog is raised and lowered with that key you have on the chain on the right hand side.
-
A felt or leather disk between part 2 and 3 similar to the 45k setup. Alex... you are FROBANA LAND!!! there must be loads of these kicking around in germany?? that is where they are all coming from? i see very little (old type) machines outside of germany for sale. there is a seller on ebay selling 6 for 450 so that is 75 a piece. he might sell you that stud you need?? or even a shuttle?? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Frobana-Doppelmaschine-6-Stuck-/292163009974?hash=item440645bdb6:g:V3kAAOSwRXRZRowU when i was referring to the shuttle and race in the other post it was for your question about if a 45k would fit, so it was showing the cheap shuttle in the race in the frobana, it would just need grinding like sandyt did. well done sandyt .
-
Hi Alex, maybe the spring has a wide opening for thicker thread than the one you are trying with??? just a thought? when i tried with bonded nylon thread i had to change the shuttle as the one in it had the tension spring for thicker thread and would not hold the slippery nylon one. here on the right the tension spring has a bigger gap for the thick thread, on the left the new on is smaller. the first picture is the cheap ali express shuttle in the race so it might work after grinding? second picture is to show that there is a bigger gap where the pin holds the bobbin cover, so if you grind it down you might have very little metal there. the third picture is of another 45k type shuttle of better quality with the gap smaller like the frobana shuttle but it has that small cutaway right near the tip which would not leave you any meat up there??? hope this helps..(just in case you were going to try another shuttle) https://es.aliexpress.com/store/product/SEWING-MACHINE-SPARE-PARTS-ACCESSORIES-HIGH-QUALITY-SEWING-SHUTTLE-HOOK-DD1-98622-FOR-SINGER-45K/118575_32602597834.html?spm=2114.04020208.3.69.t2B6JI&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10065_10151_10068_10084_10083_10080_10082_10081_10301_10110_10136_10303_10137_519_10111_10060_10176_10112_10155_10113_10114_437_10154_10056_10055_10054_10182_10059_303_10184_100031_10099_10078_10079_10103_10073_10102_10109_10052_10053_10142_10107_142_10050_10051,searchweb201603_49,ppcSwitch_5_ppcChannel&btsid=a302ed45-d769-457b-872b-2dd6e12c63b1&algo_expid=ca5a58fd-8ec2-4655-acb3-0c1959ba2955-9&algo_pvid=ca5a58fd-8ec2-4655-acb3-0c1959ba2955.

If you were here in Europe they pop up all the time and go for €30-50 with table.
