  1. Here are a couple of options. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61619&page=3 the other option is to use a worn feed dog and rub out the marks.I think chrome tan marks less than veg tan. for sewing wallets i reckon a walking foot machine would be better. i have done a few wallets using a pfaff 335 and they worked out very well. you can also do binding on them, so that could be a good option for the canvas bag??, but dont expect it to take 12mm thick leather!
  2. Hi There, what are you planning on sewing?? i think you are looking for something like a cowboy CB-4500. or like constabulary said, a pearson which is similar to a luberto. (not the smaller classic) or an adler 105 with needle feed. the 45k on a treadle will sew what goes under the foot (about 12mm) but it has no needle feed and will mark your leather underneath. check out this video.
  3. Hi There Simran, this is what your plate and foot should look like on your machine. as you see the foot bends right over to the right side and has a slight slant and lip on the right side and this is the other plate i was talking about with the two teeth.
  4. Hi Simran, nice machine you got there. looks like someone filled up your needle plate with solder or something?? it should be slanted like your feed dog teeth, and the foot should also be slanted. it dosent look like the original foot, or maybe it has been modified?? they twisted from the left side to the right side and they were slanted and had a small lip on the side probably acting as a guide to maintain the distance from the edge the same. you can see them in the parts book for your machine. http://dixiesewingmachine.tzo.com/MANUALS/SINGERPARTS2/45K68,K69,K71.pdf seems like there were two plate options, one is the slanted one you have and the other a flat plate with a two toothed feed dog for the. i made up a plate like this for my 45k21 and it works very well, if you adjust the stitch length to the same distance as the space between the two teeth on your feed dog then on straight runs you dont see any marks on the bottom side of the leather. the needle plate you have, had a small knife which fitted in the channel leading up to the needle hole, this was to cut a channel on the sole and bury the thread. part nº 95111. i would imagine that you could make a flat single plate no problem, but remember that the teeth on the 45k21 feed dog are shorter in height, maybe the 45k89 similar feed dog has taller teeth?? this is something you will have to try and measure or compare before buying the feed dog. if you need any measurements for the 45k21 teeth just ask. the length of the teeth on the feed dog 95101 are a lot longer as it has to pass through 2 plates, but if you use 1 then it would possibly work fine. all the best, jimi.
  5. Hi Al, Well i had a similar issue when i changed the nylon bonded from the spool to a wooden bobbin, i must have wound it on wrong so when it reached to the needle it was twisting too much and then breaking after the needle went down on it. otherwise you got the needle in back to front haha! but if it sews well on all other kinds of thread then great! i`ll bet in the end it is something reeeeal simple haha!. all the best jimi.
  6. Hi hyttogpine, thank you for the compliment, if i can do it anyone can! haha. unfortunately it is not that easy to find parts for the 45k 25 machines. that is why i ended up making mine. maybe an old adler similar to the 45k could possibly share some parts but i iam not sure? try ebay now and again, at the moment there is a feed dog, shuttle and bobbins etc.. for the 45k25, needle plates are harder to find and accessories also, remember that these machines leave teeth marks on the leather (especially veg tan) so if you are sewing two pieces together and you dont want any marks on the leather then you will need a specific plate, foot and feed dog and cut off the waste. otherwise you could rub out the marks but you will need to use a feed dog with worn teeth. similar to your 29k but on the bottom side. hope this helps, and good luck!

    Singer 45K69

Hi Simran, could you take some more close ups of ya machine. do you have the needle plate with the small knife in it to cut the groove on the sole??
  8. Just another old photo i found and another curios mix?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADLER-120-SINGER-7B-VERY-HEAVY-DUTY-/231077711621?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35cd4e0f05
  9. I think the last of the 45ks were made in 1964. and if i can remember correctly the serial nº on my sv99 is from 1962.
  10. Haaa! check this one out guys, its funny that this would turn up right now??? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Singer-4-1-Heavy-Duty-Industrial-Sewing-Machine-/221714659335?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item339f393807
  11. Hi There, thought you might like this one steve. regards jimi.
  12. Thanks for all of the information and opinions guys, this is interesting to hear? what about Elias Howe? i saw a saddlers machine a month ago on ebay france with his badge and serial nº which was very cool. it was a cylinder arm with a brass arm cover and it had a continuous feed dog ring like the one found on the singer class 18 ?? i wish i had kept a picture or two to show you all.
  13. Aha! so i see you are an adler man! then i should have said " and did singer copy all the adler attachments for this jump foot machine??"
  14. Thanks Tor, very interesting that Adler manual page, were all the adler manuals like this? and did they copy all the singer attachments for this jump foot machine?? that is what you do not find these days, manuals where they explain and show the accessories working. especially the old machines. i also have that binder attachment from an adler and was thinking maybe the single row of teeth down the left side of the needle could possibly work?? it might not leave teeth marks on the binder strip?? in the picture it is binding one piece of leather, so marks underneath wont matter much. does it say anything about the needle plate and feed dog used with the binder attachment?? regards jimi.
  15. Hi Dignitas, these machines are for light to medium leather, you would need a medium to heavy duty sewing machine for your 7 mm leather as that it pretty thick. you could maybe check out what other harness makers on the forum use for their work, i am sure they could put you on to a machine suited better for your needs. good luck.
  16. Hey Pip, what class 45k do you use? and what bits do you need? jimi.
  17. Thanks tor, thanks for sharing your information. and yes the roller foot is on the list as of a long time ago, i might even try to make one up?. yes, wetting out the marks works well with a non aggressive foot, the only problem i found is that sometimes it did not pull on the material enough? that is where i should have been pulling!. this is another option i am going to try out at some time, it was used on the 45k 69 i think it was?? which was used for stitching soles on boots or shoes, and consists off two teeth which follow the thread path, and the only problem is when you get to the corners the teeth walk out of the path and leave their mark. but on the straight or light curves it is quite acceptable underneath. "feel free to criticize, as this is the only way to get better at something" So Tor, i take it that you do not use any kind of binder attachment on your adler machine?? if anyone reading uses a binder attachment or any other kind of attachment for this type of machine, Feel Free, could you explain your set up or upload pictures? thanks in advance.
  18. That is what i imagined Tor, that it would also leave marks. i suppose the only way is to pay big money for a triple feed or use more chrome tanned leather or on some applications cut off the excess. the best combination i have found until know is the right foot toe for this: this way i only loose 5mm of material which is not a big waste considering the results. and looking at how the binder attachment works on these machines i think maybe a single row of teeth down the left side with the binder foot would maybe evade the teeth marks? (only with good side up and bad side under) i cant think of any other option for the 45?? maybe we could convince people that teeth marks on leather are cool and vintage hahaha. regards jimi
  19. Hi Tor, so does the feed dog under the jump foot mark vegi tan also?? and do you used any type of attachments like binding, welting with the adler. regards jimi.
  20. Have you or do You also use a 45k tor?
  21. Thanks Tor, very kind of you, we are one step ahead of the normal human beings as we already have this one on the first page always good to have another one just in case someone missed the first one , regards jimi.
  22. First picture i have come across of a workshop full of 45ks.
