  1. did you see my PM castineira?
  2. Hi There, i dont have a 45k89 but a 45k21 and others, this also happened to me with a cone of bonded nylon, so i ended up making a large wooden bobbin and stuck it on the bobbin post so as it could turn. i was only guessing but it seems to have solved the problem with that spool at least. iam not sure about unwaxed linen thread? is it for machine work? or could it be the wrong twist? you say that it is on a spool on the machine? so i assume it is turning around the post also?. could you send a picture of the machine and bobbin? i love these old machines and would be interested in knowing more about the things that people sew on the various classes of this machine. your machine has the jump foot if iam not wrong?? what things do you sew on your machine and what are the results?? dont mean to be nosey? does your machine mark up a lot the leather? or do you use any of the many attachments that were available for this class of machine?? the 45k89 had an array of binder, welting attachments, or for sewing rope into bag handles and for saddlery work, feet with 2 prongs etc... but unfortunately is not seen these days. so does every one just make belts with their 45s?? sorry for raveling on! here is a manual for the 45k machine incase you do not have one, regards jimi http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61619&hl=%2Bsinger+%2B45k+%2Bmanual
  3. I think dikman is right, the best info you have is from evo and it looks like the same type of machine but right handed. compare 47w and 48w part numbers, good luck with the stitch lenght, jimi.
  4. Hi There, try this thread and ask shoepatcher, regards jimi. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61501&hl=+singer%20+45k&page=1
  5. Yeah, sorry wiz, you got me mukin fuddled too!! i have a 335 and it sews leather no problem?? it has practically the same set up too?? the only difference is i have a single toe to the left. this is what i have managed to sew with this. regards jimi. .
  6. Hi dikman , yes your machine is 3 years newer, here is a pdf of the parts for the old class machines, dont know if you have this already?? you can look up the nº of your feed dog to see if it is the same as the one here. if it was not ground off then it should not have the long opening to the left on the needle plate (i think), that would be where the row of teeth move backwards and forwards??335 H3 Subclass Old C.pdf. yes thanks for the pic of the needle bar. what is the diameter of your needle bar? the presser foot tension screw is not metric, so you might have to scrummage around a bit to find one?
  7. The fly wheel nut at the back disengages to let you fill up a bobbin with a bobbin winder without the needle working all the time??, and possibly at the back of your thread tension unit there should be a hole going through the casting to the other side. this is where a long pin goes which automatically releases the two disks when you lift the foot up. i think my pfaff is the same or older as it was the black version, and it had the hole there in the casting already. so when i changed the single broken tension unit to a newer pfaff one, the parts just fitted no problem so you might just need a pin, thats all??
  8. Hi There, looks like we have the same machines. the only difference at first glance is the thread tension unit and possibly the needle bar and the domed shuttle guard cover. (cant see your needle bar) this would be the 335-17B S=fabric setup and 335-17B L=leather setup differences??. your serial nº should be under the thread spool holder plate on top of the machine and on the front rim in front of you. this is the needle plate, feed dog and feet that came with the machine. i suppose they were the originals as they are pfaff made and look quite old. the binder foot and feed dog (non original)have the row of teeth which yours does not have? they could possibly have been ground down as they might have left marks on the leather. just a thuoght?? also it looks like your presser foot tension screw is missing?? or i am going blind jaja! The non original binder parts are from http://www.kwokhing.com/.
  9. Any chance of a picture of your machine to compare similaritys dikman?
  10. Thanks Uwe, Great manuals, very kind of you that is the nearest to mine so far, seems they made the earlier 335´s with a 6mm solid needle bar and a single thread tension unit. Thanks leatheroo, ive got them downloaded somewhere before.
  11. Hi There, i have an old 335 from the 1950´s. if you find any old material on these machines would it be possible to get a copy, thanks, jimi. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=55790&hl=%2Bpfaff+%2B335+%2Bjourney+%2Bthe+%2Bunknown
  12. where are you from okley? because if you are in the UK an old skate from the stanley nº 50 plane has the same thread. you find them a lot on ebay and i am sure at car boot sales also. you can see it here, good luck, jimi. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=55790&hl=+pfaff%20+335%20+journey%20+the%20+unknown&page=2
  13. Hi dirtclod, the shuttle guard ring moves over to the side to let you in to the shuttle, letting you open the shuttle barrel to pop the spool out. you can see this explained in the manual. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61619&hl=%2Bsinger+%2B45k+%2Bmanual. regards jimi.
  14. Seiko SLH series. http://www.seiko-sewing.co.jp/english/a6.html
  15. Hi muzisch, i meant try another needle in case the one you have in the machine could be bent. and it might be a good idea if you clean inside the shuttle race ring area.
  16. Hi Muzisch, try another needle? is your needle bar straight? if you have taken the shuttle race apart, have a look to see if shuttle race ring is in the right way around? does the needle hit or rub against the needle plate when going in? could you send a close up? regards jimi.
  17. Hi There Hawkeye, hope this helps. and here is a manual for the 29k from another thread here but the basics are the same. there is a coloured one further up the page also. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=57862&p=398341 by the way i dont think this will handle thick sheath leather?? they were made for repairing boots and sewing light to medium leather. jimi.
  18. maybe college sewing machines in the UK has some of these parts? they sell a lot of 29k parts?? regards jimi
  19. I Would ask the previous owner if the bar was kicking around where the machine was sitting??
  20. I could not say if your driver is worn or not Geneva?? you would need the measurements from a new one to know that exactly? What year was your machine made? does it have the acanthus leaves for decals? as far as i can make out from the parts manuals , there are certain shuttles for certain shuttle drivers? many times you see "shuttle nºxxxx will only work with shuttle race nº xxxx and not with the older types"?? but it does not explain, what are the older types??so i think your best bet would be to look for your shuttle race number, check the parts book and see what shuttles work with yours. regards jimi.
  21. yes Geneva, it looks as if maybe that shuttle is from an older machine. if you could get hold of a closed frame shuttle to try, that might solve your problem. if i can remember correctly the open frame shuttle that came with my machine only works in the 45k1 from 1894. i cant get to my machines to try right now as the room is full of stuff due to renovation. does it have a part number stamped on it??
  22. Hi Geneva, was this happening when you bought it? could you send some pictures?
