The Production Of Sheridan Style Mural Process 2
Horrrk replied to bobocat's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
Hi Bobocat Beautiful, amazing and intricate work.. I hope wherever they end up, that the painstaking hours which have gone into this, are appreciated.. Regards Phil -
Dirtclod..that hardly counts as a post..lolol I've typed more by my elbow hitting the keyboard.. Haha! Regards Phil

Well found Particle.. Like you said, a tad expensive, but boy do they look good in admiral's example bag picture..totally different to the run of the mill buckles.. I like 'em lots.. Phil

Thanks for your reply Tree Reaper, I figured it was something along those lines.. As far as the response from the company, it does sound like a general reply..nothing to do with a question of force or pressure.. I guess they've not had your question posed before..only for the amount of foam, people can expect out of the can.. Maybe with the tougher leathers, we're moving into the realms of hydraulics?? A little more fiddly perhaps, but not rocket science..lol Regards Phil

Hi Tree Reaper, may I say, what a brilliant way of forming leather..excellent idea.. Thankyou for sharing this.. One thing that I don't think anyone has asked yet.. I take it that you soak the leather and push it partly into the mould before the layer of plastic is added and the whole thing is clamped shut? I can't imagine the leather, nor indeed the plastic, wanting to stretch that much from flat without tearing, is all.. Regards Phil

Hi Benlily..I suppose it all depends on the pillion usage..how many miles will be travelled on it, etc.. As I'm sure you'll see, when lookin around, some pillion seats are little more than a 4"x6" piece of neoprene, whilst others are veritable armchairs..lol Comfort sometimes plays second fiddle to style, but won't be popular on a tour..lol..

Hi Pete Yeah I bought the folders to peel open and use instead of paper, I just tried it cos I was having difficulty transferring the pattern onto the plastic..lol (I need a better pen..) It worked for the basic Sheridan design I ended up doing, but as you say, for more detailed work which some of the guys on here, who produce fantastic tooling, it would restrict the detail.. Thanks for your comment, by the way Take it easy.. Phil

Would Love To Learn The Artistic Side Of Leather Working
Horrrk replied to jim84067's topic in Member Gallery
Hi Jim and welcome to the forum.. I just came across your post and had a look through your patterns. Thanks for putting them up for people and also for the couple I've downloaded so I can practice my tooling.. They'll come in handy, so cheers.!! Take care, have fun.. Regards Phil -
Hi there folks.. I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I've not come across it in my many hours of thread reading..so just in case, I thought I'd post my experience and hope it helps some others.. The other day I had a go at my first carving. One of my struggles initially, was getting a design onto my leather, after I downloaded Inkscape and couldn't get it to print out the vector when I'd finished.. So I took a leaf out of Sylvia's book in a posting (Thankyou Sylvia..) and using a photo editing program, I turned a picture into a photocopy image then cleaned it up, before printing it out onto normal A4 paper. (it turns out I actually take some of this info in after all..lol) I bought some clear folders from the local staionary shop..40pence for 10..(the ones for holding a letter or certificate) and slotted the image inside this. Once I'd cased my leather piece, I just held the folder flat on top of the leather and traced the outline of the image with my ballpoint stylus, straight onto the leather.. No having to print the design onto clear plastic sheets or transfer the image from paper and also not ruining the paper at all with a stylus on damp leather. At the end, I could just pull out the design and put it away for another time.. Like I say, I've seen plenty on buying special transfer sheets, etc, but nothing along these lines, so hopefully this will help someone out there.. Regards Phil

Floral Checkbook Cover
Horrrk replied to Double U Leather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Double U I love the carving and wouldn't have batted an eylid at the border if it wasn't mentioned.. What did you use for the background colour? It really makes the tooling stand out.. Great work.!! Regards Phil -
New Watchbands
Horrrk replied to jayjay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice collection there Jayjay..they seem very well constructed.. Couple of questions.. Do the chicago screw heads irritate against the wrist though? What stitches per inch are they stitched at? As to your question..by sweat resistant, do you mean that they won't tarnish or won't be damaged from sweat? I had a quick look around on Google and found the following statement about pigskin, on a site called Allied Gloves: "Pigskin is more breathable and supple than cowhide because of sweat pores on the surface of the leather. Pigskin offers the best abrasion resistance for longer wear. The naturally high lanolin content in pigskin allows it to return to softness, even after repeated contact with water." Now I worked with pigs for 12years, a few back and I've had my share of crackling..but this threw up all kinds of conflicts in my head, cos I'd always been told that although pigs have pores, they are not for sweating and that they only sweated through their noses..so I had a look at the subject and got more confused by the mix of opinions out there..lol.. Apparenlty, according to one opinion, they have sweaty ankles?!?! I'm not sure if that helps at all with your question, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.. Regards Phil -

Updated Website - What Do You Think?
Horrrk replied to particle's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Hi Eric Just been and looked at your website..looks very professional, as do the holsters I looked at.. You have clearly spelt out the payment setup too..something which I've read, can cripple some of the talented folk on here.. I also like the links section at the bottom, for portfolio pictures, books, etc..but..when I clicked on the tweet links on the bottom, it came up with Error 404 - page not found Apart from that, looking good.. Regards Phil -
Hi Ashley It looks like it may be a rolled hem to me.. I could also be very wrong and it could really be a bound edge..lol But on the off chance that I'm not.. then there's a 'sticky post' above your posting, that was done by Kevin King, called 'KK Tutorial' and that shows how its done.. Oh and I've just looked again, at the sticky postings..there's also a posting by JustKate on rolled edges, which also refers to the KK Tutorial.. so there's two different ways of doing them, posted in this part of the forum.. Hope that helps Someone knowledgeable, feel free to step in..

Thanks for the link Ray.. I've got it saved for future reference, just in case I get good enough to sell a piece or two.. My first stamp kit and some leather, are on order from Le Prevo and should be with me sometime next week, I hope.. Regards Phil

Hi Benlily1 Love this seat.. The tooling is spot on and the lacing is so very tight to the side of the seat..very neat indeed.. Stuff I aspire to.. I take it the seat has been tooled and then glued with barge glue or similar, before the wet molding the leather? Regards Phil

Second Wallet
Horrrk replied to Chavez's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Hi Chavez Really nice wallet there..you can tell you've put great care and pride into making it..very nice indeed.. I ordered my first tools and some leather from Le Prevo, in Newcastle, yesterday so hopefully, soon, I can put into practice, some of what this site has given me in terms of knowledge.. If I could turn work out as good as that, I'd be chuffed to bits.! Take care Phil ps. I was trying to rack my brains, as to why I know the name Chavez.. Ghost Recon name?
