  1. You should put up the name of the tannery so others don't buy from them and get ripped off. Wrong weights and unproperly shipped and damaged goods are the fault of the tannery and they should have to reimburse you. First contact them and see if they will reimburse you for this (send the pictures). 1. If they don't want to reimburse you send them a letter of intent that you will seek legal action contact a lawyer that is in this field. 2. If they say they will reimburse you then you are good. (if this is a reputable tannery they should reimburse you since they have such a large inventory) This was likely the fault of the postman and bad packing from the tannery. I was also going to place an order from that tannery, but now Im a bit cautious since they sent the wrong weight too..
  2. thanks for the link. I can sometimes overcomplicate things, sorry about that. Anyways, I found the measurements for others that might be wondering too. 18/3 = tex 270 = .58mm 18/4 = tex 350 = .65mm 18/5 = tex 450 = .78mm 18/6 = tex 500 = .9-1mm
  3. The threads had a different thickness I think. Unless 3 ply and 4 ply are the same as 18/3 and 18/4.
  4. 18/3 = .6mm 18/4 = ?? 18/5 = ?? 18/6 = ?? Somac or Barbours?? Which is closes to .7mm
  5. can aussie or beeswax w/ neatsfoot be a substitute for resolene? To lock in dye like resolene?
  6. il try out the royal wood 4 ply along with barbours 18/3. Anyone know the size of 18/4? I read that the twist will have issues with it coming apart while hand sewing. Cant find the particular thread on this forum anymore, it was either reverse/left twist was for left handers or it was left/reverse for right handers.
  7. Il try out royal wood for the coloured thread they look promising. For the black and beige I want to go with Barbours or somac at 18/3 thats .6mm. Any one know if 18/4 is .6mm and the threads are thinner than 18/3. I don't know why, the tiger thread comes apart in the middle like almost like I have pierced it but I haven't. For the longest time I though it was my stitching that was the problem. If you could find the mm for the royal wood that would help.
  8. I have some thread thats .58mm and .8mm (braided poly- flat). One thread is too small and the other is too large, 18/3 I understand is .6mm Fil au chinois 432 looks like the best size, but is too expensive for multiple spools. Barbours and Somac are the two threads in eyeing but can't figure out the sizing. Im looking for something thats .6 - .8mm for 7 Spi. .7mm as the best case - is that 18/4? Which twist for right handed sewing?? My tiger thread thread separates while I sew, I'm unsure if its left or right twist.
  9. You could try trading it in the marketplace section for a pricking iron, round knife or even just return it back to the store - all you have to do is reject the package at the door and the package is sent back and you pay for the return shipping. Otherwise with a pricking iron its not that usable.
  10. try barker leather for the real thing. Expect to pay double the price compared to W and C, it most likely will be top notch leather. I was going to try the bridle leather from W and C the scratches can they be buffed out with a cloth or are they deep scratches?
  11. heres a link to a topic where there are two Custom machines one with the awl and the other a pricking iron. Where you can find these I don't know. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=47962&hl=%2Bdrill+%2Bpress#entry303856 sorry, Ive done that a few times before
  12. pushing the awl is around the same difficulty. There is no angle needed for the round awl, and the pulling of thread is easier because the holes aren't slanted and the pulling is different.
  13. Some people use regular round awls for stitching, it makes for an easier stitch. Stitching this way will have a less slanted stitch and the stitching can be perfected in a 2 months because there are less variables.
  14. try getting a wide piece of tape to cover the entire stone. try the best to draw the oval while the tape is on the stone, take the tape off place on leather and cut the hole.
  15. you can add blade attachments to cnc routers.
  16. That helps thanks.
  17. thanks for the response. So It would be a good estimate that a $115 item plus shipping sold on ebay would cost me 35 dollars if I sold it to some one in the USA from Canada. So the sale price is 100 dollars shipping is 15, I have to pay for the shipping, there isn't any profit on that 15 dollars. 100 - 35 = 65 dollars USD Subtract cost of goods (supplies, material..) and the profit is slim. A wallet for 30 dollars. plus 6 shipping Paypal fee = $30 - (2.9% + 30cents) - (4% conversion rate to Canadian) - (1% border fee) = $2.35 fee Ebay fee = $36 - 10 percent = $3.6 fee 6 dollars in fees. Is this right?
  18. angelus paints w/ duller or water works better than fiebings. Haven't used either but all sneaker customizers use angelus and they never crack. You may have to thin it 30 percent with duller so that the coat isn't so heavy - 1 light coat (don't worry if it looks uneven it will even out on the 2nd and 3rd coat), let dry, another light coat, let dry, final coat. Angelus paint dont need to be sealed, but for extreme conditions it can add extra protection. Angelus dye vs fiebings dye - with angelus it comes ready to use out the bottle, fiebings you have to thin w/ denatured alcohol with fiebings you get double the product, its a concentrate.
  19. stitch with the overstitch, take a ruler and measure out how many stitches can fit within an inch. That is the Stitches per inch of your overstitch. Stitches per inch on pricking iron and overstitch are the same scale.
  20. Looking at the paypal fees from their page and I can't make sense of it. Anyone from ebay who has sold anything I need your help. 1.When selling I understand there is a fee for 2.9 % + 30c per sale. 2.Then there is a currency exchange if your item is sold in a different currency which is higher than bank rates. 3. Anymore hidden fees?? So for instance if I sell a 100 item. 100 X 97% -.30 = 96.8 X .96 conversion fee (pay pal takes away 4 percent) = 93 X 1 percent border crossing fee = $92 USD Final cost 8 dollars to sell a 100 dollar item if they have a different currency and 3.2 dollars to sell to canadians. Plus insertion fee if it is past the 50 free listings per month. Is this correct? Are there any other fees?
  21. Those are pretty good prices for H.O are they A grade? can they be split for free to 3.5 oz?
  22. Anyone who has a $5000 purse or $2000 pair of mens shoes, must be so boring to hang around with. Amazing what people will spend.
  23. How much of the lapis side was usable? I spoke to mavericks and they are really patient and answer emails within the hour. Good customer service.
  24. your right, I need to be more careful w/ the creaser, Im trying to get the crease too fast and it ends up losing grip on the edge of the leather and slipping. How do you get it to look like one solid edge(without a heat tool). I have sandpaper, wood creaser and saddle soap. I use hide pounders technique w/ out the machinery and got okay results. I find I can only get a good edge on thin leathers like calf which have very little on the flesh. Im guessing its mostly the heating tool. Handsewing which do you prefer, hitting the iron till you see it start to show on the backside or gently tapping to get an impression. I like to hit it till I see marks on the backside, on thicker multi layers this is not possible and my stitching struggles to get even on the backside, although its 80 percent how I want it to look.
  25. do you use a adjustable screw creaser or a wooden creaser? I have trouble w/ the wooden creaser as it sometimes slips and it makes a mark in an unwanted area.
