Lakejumper, there is a very discernible difference in the crispness of the impressions made by the older craftool compared to the new ones. Pre letter are the best and in addition to the impression, the steel is far superior. Most importantly, the actual shapes of the tools have evolved over the decades and many are far from what they were intended to be. This doesn't mean much in a pear shader, but in the figure beveler series they have become almost unusable. If you have the opportunity to get your hands on some of the older stuff, by all means do it.

Do your borders separately. They're easy to do and you can adjust them if necessary.

Its not the same knife, its a knock off because the Tandy version was a limited edition Stohlman brand knife. One thing I can say about this knife, is that Al never touched them, saw them or knew about them because he had passed long before this knife was introduced. Its a nice knife but its more of a collector piece now days. The new Tandy Pro series knives are just as smooth and not nearly so expensive.

Sorry for the rant. Sometimes I need to vent and why not do it among fellow enthusiasts. Here is the pic that inspired the post.

Every so often, the internet makes me weep for humanity. People have opinions about things they know nothing about. And they will fight to the death defending their position. Everyone like to be in their own little world and sleep at night with the myopic self assuredness that they "know" what's going on. I used to be like this to a certain extent, believing what I was indoctrinated into. One day, I woke up and realized that many of the the truths I held on to were nothing more than cleverly crafted opinions. And we all know what opinions are like, right?
