They would have, but I live close by so I went there myself. What a great place. Warehouse full of machining equipment. I was very good and didnt buy a bunch of other stuff

OK, here's mine. I am clearly NOT a woodworker, but I believe this will be serviceable. I need a better screw handle but this will do for now. Thanks Ryan for the inspiration!

Pancake Holster

It's really cool. How did you vacuum form it? -
I have to agree with Curly on this one. The greater Chicago area is filled with people trying to make a buck. I found this place that had exactly what I wanted (Read 3 inch thickness) for a reasonable price. I tried a dozen different places, none of whom were willing to deal. See this thread for details http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=42838

Whilst looking for a suitable granite work surface, I tried local granite counter top places, grave stone places and big box counter top stores to no avail. Nobody had the size or thickness I wanted. They could laminate two pieces for several hundred dollars or do marble for 450! No thank you. After searching the forum for a while I learned about surface plates. After a quick search I located Shars Tool Company on ebay where I found a 12 x 18 surface plate for 39 dollars. Its three inches thick, smooth without being slippery and it is FAR superior to the 1.5 inch granite slabs. Better tool impressions and much quieter to do the work, plus it doubles as a cutting surface! I couldn't be happier! www.shars.com Enjoy :D

He thinks its great! I see the flaws, he see past them. I can't argue with that! Thank you. I concur:D

That clinches it. I'm making my own tomorrow!!! Nice job and I like the stamp.

Thanks Benlilly! I am my own worst critic, except for maybe Ferg :D and he is way more helpful than I am!

Outstanding! I'd love to make a pair of boots one day.

So as some of you know, I have recently started making holster, sheaths and other items out of leather, and they have been met with great enthusiasm. I have received several "orders" for custom work, and I derive great pleasure out of creating something from nothing. You may have seen my first holster and some of you commented on it, critiquing my work to help me make improvements. My step dad is an accomplished gunsmith and craftsman in his own regard, and he absolutely loved my first holster, so I gave it to him after much consideration about what to do with my first product, rough as it was. This picture is of his gun in it's new home and it is fun seeing that someone appreciates my work, flaws and all! I just wanted to share my enthusiasm and thank everyone for their help! Mike

I recently sold my hummingbird holster for 100 dollars! It was my first sale, and I too was ecstatic! I have three more orders, and I'm trying to increase speed for production. I know exactly how you all feel. I have spent over 1200 bucks to earn back 100. And II don't care because I LOVE workng with leather. I love the look on people's faces when the see somethng so personalized. It's worth it:) Nice job and keep it up! -

Looks awesome Bob! What does the leather journal contain? Do I need it? how about your book? It seems like its well liked, but I know nothing about it... Mike -
Cool, thanks man. I'll check it out next time I'm there.

I will look those up. I like the design way better already. What special tools do you need? EDIT: Looked and I can't find anything other than the prong kind. Any help? Screw back would be nice too.

There are some things that just require more work than they are worth. Vertical blinds are one of those things. Unless you have a bunch of spare time on your hands, I vote for buying new ones!

I have the Tandy tool, and it works well, but I do not use the anvil supplied. I also found that you need to make surethe prongs are straight/parallel or they make a ripple in the leather. The tool works well and until I find a source for screw back spots and studs, I'll keep using it.

My First Piece Of Jewelry
immiketoo replied to immiketoo's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks Bob. I used straight yellow oil dye for the base coat and then I played around with yellow and red to make an orange that I dry brushed over the yellow.
