  1. The briefcase in this post is my favorite. Very cool. I like the thick front strap, the two-tone flap, and the lined shoulder strap. It looks really nice.
  2. Wow, that looks like a lot of work. Very nice!
  3. I wonder if he used a paper stencil, wrapped around and taped to the backside, and airbrushed over with dye.
  4. I live your tooling theme! The pictures aren't very good, but from what I can see, it looks like you did a great job. I'd like to make that pouch myself, sometime. It's a cool pattern.
  5. Oh yes, that really ties in the lock better. Very nice!
  6. You have a nice wife!
  7. Nice work, Jempy! Welcome to the forum - post more pictures of your work!
  8. Ha, I like yours better. You could probably leave off the f-hole altogether, honestly. The stitched outline definitely gives the idea, though. Great idea on the strap and f-hole, I think I might use your idea when I make it again. I actually made the whole pattern a bit larger..... sorry, should have mentioned. And forgot to see if Tboyce would change it. :-/ I'm not very good at making patterns on the computer, so I just imported it to photoshop and enlarged it a bit. (and them promptly forgot I had done it.) Is the utility oil tanned the awesome papery looking leather? It's sweet!
  9. Pangolins are awesome. I only learned about them this last year. But how does the whole skin thing work? Does the skin include the scales? I would have thought the scales would come off in the tanning process? Poor things, I always feel sorry for animals who are hunted for their supposed medicinal purposes, based mainly on tradition and old wive's tales. In a better world they wouldn't be trafficked, so we could have some guilt free thinning-the-herd pangolin hide.
  10. Thanks Jim, I appreciate all the measurements, etc. (And the funny story that went with it didn't hurt, either. )
  11. Cool little briefcase, Matt
  12. I do the same thing. Though I usually ignore the ones filled with peanut butter.
  13. LOL, and it's cool looking, too!
  14. It looks great, I love the two-tone. I've never tried to buy Tandy's chisels that small. I have a 6 spi one that is four prong and another that is two prong...
  15. My husband has sent a mandolin to Canada no problem.... He sent it via UPS. He prefers using UPS because they act as your customs broker for you. It's more expensive because you (or the customer) pay all the fees in advance, and they resolve any insurance problems for you, he says. I sent an expensive package via USPS to Malaysia, and the customer ended up having to pay an extra hundred or two in customs fees. Very annoying for them, but not something I could have helped. However, I've sent to several European countries and Australia via USPS, and never had anyone complain before that. I wouldn't be able to do this if I had to go to a UPS store or the post office all the time. I can order a pickup, buy postage online (I never use flat rate), and put my boxes out on the front porch. Kind of cool.
  16. Nice, Chief! Funny, I never have much to do in December - my busy season is in the fall. Weird.
  17. Great thread - I'm about to a creaser, so this has been very valuable.
  18. I'm still not convinced tpi and spi is a big enough difference to matter. You guys had me all rattled when I bought my 8spi blanchard thinking it would give me roughly 7spi. When I measure the stitches, there are exactly 8 per inch. Good, I guess? Mine give me 8 stitches, or basically 8 1/2 slits.
  19. Ditto Joe - the lining really makes it look classy. I've been wanting to pick up some croc print myself... in the absence of the unlikely event of someone gifting me an actual croc hide, of course.
  20. Nice bag, fanninator! What's wrong with the black English Bridle? (Sorry, I'm currently still obsessed with finding out what English Bridle actually is...) Lots of tiny stitches! The handle looks like it was fun to make.
  21. I did it with two threads the one time I've done it... don't know what other people do, though.
