  1. Thank you for the detailed advice, David. Flesh side to flesh side with piping on the inside? That would leave two visible edges with piping in between? I don't think I've ever seen that done. I've never tried piping, but I've been meaning to learn how to do it. It certainly looks great. The bias tape is a good idea. I feel like it would work best on 1-2 oz, while my leather is 3-4 oz. However, I could be wrong, and it does give it a nice, clean look. I'll save the thumbs for future reference.
  2. Thank you, BillyB- I think you're right about the skiving. Thanks for the suggestion!
  3. So, my dad mentioned he wanted something that wasn't a briefcase, but more like a tote. He didn't want a flap, and he didn't want something too big, just a bag with handles to carry papers. A lot of people have been making totes, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't really like the unfinished edges at the top of most totes, so I tried to remedy the situation by putting an extra strip at the top. I like the look of the seams on the outside, and I like that I could get a finished top edge, but I don't particularly like the corners. Any suggestions would be welcome!
  4. Really cool project! The lining is great, and you did a ridiculously thorough job laying it out and everything. It looks really well designed. @Dan - I've sold four bags with only 45 inch straps. It's true, you might find it easier to sell if the strap is longer, but it's certainly not necessary for it to be long.
  5. Great videos and great products. You've convinced me to start dying my chrome tanned edges. I was trying to decide if it was something people normally did.
  6. Yes, that was our feeling, as well. I can't imagine what someone could gain out of a scam like that, but it certainly seemed like too much work for Amazon to go to.
  7. Ooh, I love that. Is that alligator, or embossed cow? Either way, it's very pretty.
  8. Thank you, Buttons, and Dan! Dan, you're absolutely right. That would be a frightening thing, especially x 3.
  9. Your tooling style and artwork is awesome. Did you draw it yourself? I really like the railroad track and the art nouveau flower.
  10. I love the carving on that gun. SO COOL.
  11. Very nice, I especially like that pouch.
  12. I think it's quite nice, and I really appreciate the walk through.
  13. Yes, the bowls are cool, and the braiding is awesome. Interesting project!
  14. Thanks, Frederiek! I'm really feeling motivated to clean up the rough parts and not retire it permanently after all.
  15. Sweet! I especially like the one with the stingray. I really want to try tanning my own snake skins, but at this point, I'd have to kill them with my teeth. Also.... I haven't seen a snake since I moved away from Texas. I guess I'll just go back to trying to convince my brothers to tan the copperheads they kill.
  16. Cool, I really like the details on the back. Well, the front too, but the back looks awesome.
  17. That is seriously realistic looking.
  18. Thank you, Bill! @rawcustom - LOL, that is a spectacularly nice thing to say, thank you. However, you get into the groove, and when you're taking two weeks to make something, an extra evening or two doesn't make much difference. My bags are relatively small and uncomplicated. In a way, they're much easier to make than knive sheaths and wallets.
  19. Hi Mark, I think you'd be surprised at how easy it can be to make your own template. Just use a straight edge and a square and round the corners with something handy. Sometimes I draw out all the separate pieces on a piece of paper just to make sure I've actually thought it through before I start cutting. Unfortunately, since I've always made my own, I don't really know where you can get any, but I have noticed a shop on etsy that sells patterns: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LZpattern . I've never tried any, but I really like the look of some of their products. And they have three or four free tutorials on there that look pretty informative.
  20. Looking great! I imagine it was difficult getting all those tiny details.
  21. Very nice! Yeah, the formed leather look gave it a serious boost in interest and coolness. Nice touch!
