  1. Wow, that's a ridiculous first project. Really nice! You should get some good years out of that one.
  2. Now this is sweet. Really cool, both the iron mounts and the scabbard.
  3. Thanks! Yes, as he's only five years old now, that sounds like the wait would be just as well.
  4. Thank you guys! I'm trying to be less impatient and a bit more thorough. Scoot, thank you, and it's called "Austin" leather, and I got it from Tandy. They also have it in black and a rather gorgeous gray that I really want to try. I know there are some good online sources for leather, but I haven't had the gumption to order something sight unseen yet.
  5. Beautiful knife. I want one. Alas, for money. And a very nice sheath, too, though I'm no expert on those.
  6. Just finished this bag, except for the maker's mark, which my husband says he's making for me. I guess I'll add it later. It is really bad form to sew it on? I had hoped to stamp the simple text into veg tanned, sew on one of these little machined buttons my husband made for me, and sew the lot onto the bag. Bad idea? Anyway, this is Austin 8 - 9 oz leather, over the shoulder backpack style. Thanks for looking, Monica
  7. Dude, that's awesome. My son was begging me to make him some alligator armor. . . I told him it was unlikely to happen with real alligator. Welcome to the forum! I'm from Atlanta, GA.
  8. Beautiful work! I like how you managed the center divider. Very nice indeed.
  9. Wow, I can't wait to see how that one turns out. Thanks for the pictures!
  10. It looks really nice! As you say, you could probably use some carving practice. Your stitching looks great, though. As for price, that's kind of a loaded question. When I make mistakes, I just subtract a little from the price and sell it anyway. I think you just have to decide on what it's worth to you and try to sell it. You can sell it for a higher price (by $100, I've heard) if you can sell in person, say at a craft fair. I sell all of my leather on etsy, and it's much harder to sell things to people when they can't handle it. So much to say, with the tooling (which increases the price), the really nice hardware, and the nice stitching. . . I would charge $200.00 - $250.00 for it. Some people might say that's high, others might say it's low.
  11. That's cool! It looks like a Tempur-pedic showroom or something.
  12. Cool! I've been wanting to make something with fringe. Looks like you've got it covered, though.
  13. Very nice! Especially the belt buckle. How did you make it? Everything else is really nice too. I especially like briefcase. If everyone started out making it look that easy, leatherworking would be a great deal less expensive.
  14. Heh, thanks you guys. Yes, I just wanted to make sure that way of putting it together wasn't in ill taste or something. I really like it myself, though I dare say it'd be a bit of a pain to stitch. And yes, much as I like the bag, for $425, I think they should add some stitches to attach the straps.
  15. Hey all, I found this bag onlins: http://scoutmob.com/p/Brown-Leather-Messenger-Bag?ref=cat_new&m=HardPin&sort=recommended&signup=0&via=HardPin&source=Pinterest&medium=HardPin&campaign=type4&utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=HardPin&utm_campaign=type4&utm_content=1327 (The picture attached is their bag) It seems very nice, and I bought the same leather, and I've been trying to decide what to do with it. I wanted to ask if there was any reason why I do not commonly see the stitching technique they used for the sides of their bag? Is it a bad idea? Thanks! Monica
  16. LOL, if only. I've been casting about, trying to keep up with him ever since I met him. I can play the piano better than he can, anyway. One must count one's blessings.
  17. Thanks! If you think that's good, you should see his mandolins.
  18. Thanks for the advice! I dare say next time I tried to use it with a large project and lots of string, I would have been very annoyed. I appreciate it!
