Any Advice On Attaching Leather Shoe Soles?
MonicaJacobson replied to lordpoint's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Sweet shoe! I'm interested in shoe making, but I can't get away to take a class -- is there a book you would recommend? Edit: After I asked this, I looked more closely at your website and found your "reference" section, which answers my question. Thanks! -
Cool!

Celtic Archery Arm Guard For Myself

Nice! I really like the decorative stitching as well. -
My husband gave me a hand, and we molded the leather straight onto our Canon 5D Mark II with a 50 1:1.4 lens and lens hood. Which, of course, was our first mistake. As it turns out, you don't want it to be snug. The second mistake was molding the leather to the lens behind the lens hood. I'm not sure how we expected to pull it out! Further, we cut it off too short, so I was going to add another piece back on. Then I had to admit what I had been trying to ignore; that ominous sounding crack we heard when molding it was the lens hood coming loose. We molded it with a crooked lens hood, which made for a crooked line and a wonky bag. At some point, you have to cut your losses and start over. At least we learned a lot. On the next one, I'll just make a separate piece for the front and not try to mold the leather to the lens at all. We were trying to mold 9 oz leather. Was that a mistake? Any tips would be appreciated!

Making Boston Bag

Really cute bag! All of your projects are amazing! -
$400 sounds about right to me for a fully lined, nicely dyed, and very well sewn satchel. I might even charge more if I put in some nice pockets. I've only sold a couple of larger things, so I'm not very experienced when it comes to pricing, but I do know that you can give stuff away all day long, no problem! But if you underprice it to be nice, the person who buys it will always think of it as inferior. You don't want to sell it as a fashion accessory, those are meant to be thrown away in a year. You want to sell it as a tool, and tools cost money. Not that I'm very good at putting all that into practice... Love the satchel!

As my son said, when he looked over my shoulder, "I don't know what to say because it's so beautiful." Heh heh. Really, REALLY nice. I want it. Did you take progress pictures?

Extra Large Sketch Book
MonicaJacobson replied to MonicaJacobson's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
I used 60 lb Hammermill paper that I got on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017LP1IM/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) . 80 weight would be awesome. Are you going to go the serious book binding route? I'll be interested to see your modifications, if you post them!- 7 replies

Just finished this for a customer. 9 oz tooled leather journal. 9 x 12 " - it's huge and it weighs almost five pounds. Fun project! I decided I hated cutting paper so much that I offered to make it bigger (free of charge) than the original 8x8 that he wanted. Fox on the front, aspen trees on the back.

Wow, this is a gorgeous bag. One of my favorites I've seen. I love the original way you put it together.
