  1. I'm going to order my first Head / Round Knife ,being based in Europe i'm getting one from LePrevo in UK seems a good deal , anyway i know it may need sharpening and wanted to order some jewelers rouge to give it that final polish but looking on ebay there seems to be a few different types or at least colours green and red do they both do the same job or is one better than the other ? This is a link to the knife i'm going to order http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/round-knife.html
  2. Just a very simple tip i found , when you go to a petrol station ( gas station ) they sometimes have a dispenser with free plastic gloves to protect your hands from the fuel , they make ideal disposable or even re-usable gloves for when your dying leather.
  3. That's sort of the idea , regarding the Diamond Awl i am worried that it will slice the cotton fabric and result in tearing the cotton .
  4. Thanks matt , the idea was to attach (if you can imagine) a watch strap set up about 6' below the arm pit on either side , stitch each bit and then i could adjust as necessary but the more i think about it with only having harness needles and a diamond awl might go for Chicago studs and screw the leather to the coat , what do you think ? Sorry Habicht just saw your post i've searched for a photo to explain but couldn't find one of the rear this is a link but i don't know if it will work http://www.stuartslondon.com/coats-jackets-c23/jackets-c25/oliver-spencer-military-byron-olive-jacket-osj181a-p5058
  5. Hi i want to attach two leather straps with buckles to a old Barbour jacket either side. I've lost some weight and the jacket is far too big for me , the idea is to pull the sides and back in round the waist at the rear. I was thinking of hand sewing them , is there anything i need to consider, i'm new at sewing and only know the saddle stitch technique, just wondered if i need to reinforce with a piece of leather on the inside . I don't have any photos to explain what i mean so i apologize if i haven't explained myself well .
  6. I read this to my children and they fell fast asleep lovely bed time story .
  7. Just wondered if any of your suppliers stock the Tiger thread ? Nigel Armitage recommends it , ive ordered some from Abbey Saddlery in UK and my brother is bringing it over next week but it would be handy if there was a stockist in Spain . This is the thread i'm talking about . http://www.abbeyengland.com/Store/tabid/77/CategoryID/202/Category2ID/27/Level/2/ProductID/68933/Default.aspx
  8. Hola El Zipster i've been using this company to buy my Fiebings Pro Dye he's very helpful and his shipping is reasonable worth looking at his other stuff . Here's the link . http://www.joman.net/curtidos.htm
  9. Hola Jesus i live in Spain near Malaga but I'm not a native , this is a great forum to ask questions and post your projects , although i am just a learner i have found some good places to purchase leather and dyes in Spain if you need any help just ask . Regards Dave
  10. I remember you mentioning about your old stitching pony Nigel on one of your videos , that's going to look cool next to your upturned log
  11. Very nice thanks for the reply , you should be very proud of your work congratulations.
  12. Lovely, can i ask what you use yo cut such clean straight lines and curves ?, this is my major problem .
  13. Hope you find the answer to your question as my attempts are the same as yours , i have followed all Nigel's examples and the only difference is he tends to show his examples with two pieces of veg tanned with the rough side in the middle if that makes sense . This video of a French gentleman doing the saddle stitch is worth watching but again he sandwiches two pieces of leather together but near the end he shows the back which is not quite as neat but he still gets the slant . Nigel is very helpful and he does answer questions if you ask on his videos .
  14. Thanks for the info , what ratio of powder to water do you use ? looks like it might go a long way. Found this site in UK it says for leather interesting. Plenty of colours to choose. http://www.restoration-materials.co.uk/www.restoration-materials.gbr.cc/info.php?p=2&pid=611452&ack=9
  15. This is probably a really daft question but here goes , is there any reason why you couldn't use a wood stain to dye leather ?
  16. Cheers Karina but mine doubles as a pillow when I'm tired and need a little nap.
  17. This time next year we'll be millionaires i'm trying to squeeze as many British sit com sayings in to one thread.
  18. After knocking a tub of Fiebings oil dye over today i thought got to avoid that happening again , so had a cunning plan . Should i patent it
  19. Cheers Trox your good advise has been taken onboard .
