  1. Welcome to the forum from another UK member , you've found a great forum for information , encouragement and advice . By the way i think you have a supplier of leather and tools in your area called Le Prevo might be worth a drive up and pick some leather of-cuts . Cheers Dave
  2. That is very sad news about Dixon , can't afford Blanchard prices might have to go with the Goods Japan european irons, oh well another one bites the dust. .
  3. 1 Hickup an hour that's chronic you need to see a Leather Doctor .
  4. Don't beat yourself up Nigel you especially are allowed one hiccup given all the help and advise you impart on us mere mortals , Cheers for the photos , i'm in the position of having one Dixon pricking iron 7 SPI and have been toying with idea of buying the 2 teeth iron for going round corners , but i could buy the Goods Japan set for less than the single Dixon , now i know there of no worse a quality than the Dixon it's a no brainer ,
  5. Thanks pgivens that clears things up a bit i would be happy with 8 or 9 stitches per inch , i think i will have to order some thinner thread though maybe 0.8 Tiger would be too thick might get some 0.6 like Nigel is using . Cheers
  6. Cheers Nigel just had a look at these on Goods Japan if i'm reading it correct it says the 2.5mm gives 10.2 stitches per inch so i'm a bit confused , seems to be a difference between what Nigel's getting and Goods Japan's description . here's the link . http://goodsjapan.com/european-leather-stitching-chisel-leathercraft-pricking-iron-tool-6x25mm-1595-p.asp

  10. Hi Mockingbird , i seem to remember reading that the Clam from Abbey was of a poor construction but i can't remember where i read it , you would be able to adjust the height easy with some threaded bar and a plastic foot , this ebay site is based in Korea if it helps . (Just checked prices very expensive) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Many-leather-craft-tools-wooden-clamp-stitching-and-lacing-pony-table-ongage-/281369387237?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4182ec20e5
  11. Hi Mockingbird , i have recently re-located back to UK and had to leave some of my equipment one being a Stitching clamp i made wasn't brilliant but did the job , i've been researching buying a clam or clamp similar to the one on you photo , i found this guy in France that sells them for €75 plus posting , this is where i found the website , hope it helps . http://www.leboncoin.fr/bricolage/229819308.htm?ca=10_s
  12. Not sure if these are the ones Kweina bought but these are the ones i've been looking at . http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-Line-Pro-Stitch-3-38mm-3-85mm-Leather-Chisel-Craft-Hole-Piercing-Punch-Tool/231184680530?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D22042%26meid%3D6293486870173970461%26pid%3D100012%26prg%3D9536%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D331130001294 Although 3.38mm works out at roughly (i think} at just over 7 S.P.I
  13. My French isn't good but i thought it read free delivery if you spend a €100 or more , not sure what the delivery would be if you just bought the knife. Just tried putting my country in checkout and the price didn't change so maybe it would be a good price?
  14. This company is also an alternative http://www.decocuir.com/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=9980813
  15. Found this video on manufacture of bags worth watching if only for the design of the handle . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmxRSlNyoxU#t=403
  16. This looks a brilliant option to Tiger thread thanks for the heads up .
  17. evendailey they look as well made as my Joseph Dixon pricking iron would love to see some examples with the thread.
  18. Don't know if this will help you but we have a £/€/$ store near us and they sell very cheap plastic chopping / cutting boards useless for the kitchen but the thickness is near identical to a couple of the Iphones, so i just cut them to the size of the phone, round the corners of and your good to go. Hope it helps.
  19. You will be amazed with practice how much you can progress , i too was unhappy with my first couple of projects and felt like giving up but although I'm not at the standard of some members here I'm a lot happier when i have the finished article , my trouble is i still rush and can't wait in between the different stages so my tip would be enjoy each bit and the end result will be something you can honestly say you did your best . As for your wallet it looks good to me perhaps straighter stitching , i bought a pricking iron what a difference that made , also i invested in a good knife and made a strop another big improvement i could go on . good luck
