A Pin vice might be what you are looking for to lock the blade into. Also Look around industrial supply shops for drill rod have one close that sells 3' for about that in $ its annealed so you can just work if with files. I keep all broken and dicarded bits too but for $3 its worth knowing what and how to heat treat what you put the time into. Just temper carefully they are vary brittle. lost mine found its way out of its sheath and through my bag or i would show a pic. Thats my 3 bucks;)

I have been using Lepage low odour as i do most of my work when my son goes to bed and don't want the fumes in the house. I had some weldbond and used it when i ran out of Lepage and don't really like it takes to long and cracks sounding when flexed seems to hold but wouldn't want a customer hearing a piece cracking. Havnt seen weld wood red in Canada will keep my eye out for it.

You can make a dimmer switch wired to a plug and plug the solder iron in to it and control the heat that way also a cheap solder iron like wood burner has changeable tips i used the for wood burning until i got a pro unit.

I use the re-curve blade for hair and feather cuts pierce with the point and pull back gives a thick to thin taper in the cut that is easy to control. For tight curves I use my swivel knife and cut the rest out with a scalpel or the re-curve blade.

Need a little help with inspiration for this was going to stich it to plywood. Not so sure I like that idea anymore. I do like your idea of using a round or oval with bark on it but having a tough time finding one 24"or more in diameter which is what I will need for the length of this. Thought of using as an inlay but because of all the cuts thru the grain I dont thinkbit will weather well and I dont think it would where well so looking more at as a wall hanging. Any ideas or critic's welcome

Depending on what you need reflective you could over lay some reflective tape or pieces from a vest I wonder how paint would hold up over time
