  1. Just a hat in an altered medieval "pillbox"-design with some tooling added. made of about 2,5mm veg. Cowhide and some sturgeon . The top is made of wool. I kind of like it, even if the stitching line on the back is anything but perfect... gonna work on that ^^. I just hope you like it. (as normal - click to enlarge)
  2. Wow, what a nice bag. Looks awesome! I am looking forward to that day, I might be capable of sth like that
  3. "Happily" isn´t the right word, but it worked quite good. As I said, it took a bit more time and effort, but it worked out (http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=50790&hl=%2Bstick+%2Bbag The edge of that bag is like 2 Layers of ~3,5mm and 2 layers of ~2,5mm. So that´s the thing i am talking about) You just have to be sure to keep your awl real (!) sharp and polished! And on this project, I used a little bit of beeswax, which let the awl slide through the leather easier. But of course it is more exciting to have thinner edges to stich ^^.
  4. I stitched about 12 mm (~ 1/2 inch) without any real trouble. It took a bit longer than 3 mil, right, but it didn´t take that much longer. And it was just a awl i used. So I´d just dislike to drill my stitching holes, but that´s kind of an old discussion I guess. But I also wonder, what kind of pouch you´ve made where you got to stitch 75mm..... besides the price it sounds like a weird construktion to me. Just correct me, if I am wrong...

    Pony

Yay, looks nice and should do the job. But how do you intend to clamp the leather between the jaws? I think you´d need sth like a long screw or some clamps at least. In addition I hope the angle of the jaws is enough for you to work. I´d prefere a higher angle so I got more room for hands while stitchig. But all in all I like it
  6. As far as I know there is no common/effectiv way to resist oil dyes with the normal finishes. Blockout, resolene and the rest are made for resisting water, not alcohol or oil. So if you use one of them, less of the colour might come through, but it will look splotchy and very unsatisfying. The latex should help at this point, but only if you use a airbrush, because otherwise you´d rather rub the colour under the edges while applying the dye, or the latex might even lift up because of the friction. But that´s just my imagination. I never tried it and other people might know better, but if you need to resist a black dye, I think you should either take a water based dye or use latex and spray the dye on.... As said, maybe someone else could explain it better
  7. Yeah, she was really happy when she got it, so I think I did a good job ^^. The lining is just stitched on the backside.and I colored and polished the edge. So no rolled edge here.
  8. This is a belt for a friend. She bought like 1 new belt/year, because she was used to this standart-crap-belts which started to disintegrate after about 10 to 11 months.... so the Plan of her husband was to give her a lasting belt she could enjoy "a little longer" and which looks better than the stuff before. I used some 2mm veg tanned cowhide lined with about 1,5mm, so the backside of those rivet-like pyramids would scratch her pants and would be visible plus a nickel plated brass buckle, handstitched all the way around. (I know that the stichting line isn´t perfect.... but I am just waiting for my pricking irons to arrive! Hope they´ll come soon) Hope you like it

just what benlilly says. Your work is truly amazing!

    Blue Dye

Thx a lot! Actually that's some kind of Larp dagger, made by someone else. So I just made the sheath on comission.

    Blue Dye

I also used Fiebigns pro oil dye Royal blue. Actually it is quite dark and strong. This sheath is made with Fiebings royal blue. (http://farm4.staticf...bf36daa9b_b.jpg) it has two coats of it, so you might get it just a bit lighter (but not much) if you do one coat. But I didn't dilute it. I think it turns out really nice!
  12. So well, if you are interested in this special "tree bark" look, this person might be interesting for you: http://obsidian-sun.deviantart.com/art/A-S-Bowie-Sheath-and-Monofold-Wallet-295725258 I don´t know him, but i gues he used some bark to create this surface. Maybe you could just send him a note and see if he is willing to help you out Another option might be this technique: http://sarnthaler.it/sarnthaler_katalog.pdf I know its mainly in German but with some english lines, too The plant-thing was discussed in this forum at least on or two times I think. For the wooden "stamps" I think he used some rough grained boards of ash or Oak and "brushed" them. That´s a technique where you use a brass-brush (or one of different plastic devices for a power drill which are available, but no iron! It´s the same like with leather... it´ll stain the wood and lateron maybe the leather...) to "brush down" the softer tree rings (the lighter ones) to get a really 3-D surface (which can feel great, btw.) like this you might get a really nice impression if you use that. But I think it should be slightly bigger that your piece of leather, so you can avoid markings of the "stamp-edge" The guy from this homepage might have form cast in urethan or sth similar, but it should work out just fine... maybe you´ll give it a try. Hope that might help you. greetings Sona
  13. Thx to both of you @Mike: That´s what I think everytime I come here. Even if there seems to be a majority of people who make holsters and bags (and beautiful ones! ^^). In Germany most people I know who like to work with leather are people from the LARP-section (like me) or similar hobbies (living history, reenactment and so on), or sheathmakers. In America (and many other countries) it seems to be a little bit different if I look at this forum But that´s just one reason why I like it. By looking at all those holsters and stuff I´d love to make one myself... but sadly I wouldnßt have any use for it ^^. Well maybe there´ll be the time... someday *laugh* @Aurelie: Actually not, no. I got like three sellers I cut out right now. One was just strange and an alcoholic (but had good leather.... that was a complicated decision, but I didn´t feel comfortable there...) another sent me leather dirty leather with scary (glue-?)spots on it and this one just doesn´t have the quality I want. I got one where I always found special leather (i.e. really nice goats and even if I didn´t buy it stuff like ostrich, frog, moray, salmon and so on) but I never ordered veg tanned hides from him... actually I just realized that and I think I´ll give him a try. But just for me to know: Is there a english/german version of their website? My french is limited to just a few words to tell people, that I neither speak, nor understand french that much ^^.
  14. Hey immiketoo, I just love your stools and again you got a nice design on this one. Well done
  15. Beginner or not. That pouches look neat. I like them! I would just start and end rather with a round hole than a diamnond shaped one. I thinks it looks nice. But you did a very nice job there!
  16. Hi there, even if I think that a lot of you are mainly interested in stuff for other areas, i just wanted to show you two sheaths I made for a larp sword and a larp sax. Sadly the leather isn´t that good quality so the tooling came out quite unsatisfying. Gotta find a better leather-source.... Bot are wetformed by using a wooden model an lined with loden. The fur is from a goat. Hope you like it
  17. Wow, that´s just beautiful. Really really nice piece of art! Good job!
  18. Well, for about 3 weeks I´ve got a (seriously?) problem in this forum: I can´t open any images anymore. Or... actually I can´t scale them up by clicking on them. That´s really sad, because right know i just can see a lot of little gifs of stuff a lot of you just made, but I can´t see any details ;( Any ideas what I could do/what could be my problem?
  19. actually no, but if you are interested I could make and upload one in the next few days.
  20. Thank you both. Actually it wasn´t my idea ,) It´s a comission someone asked me to do for him with this site as a source for the design. It was totally new for me, too. But as the knife itself is merely 16cm over the whole length it fits just nice;) As you can see they use it for many things like (credit) cards, little flashlights, firestones and so on. The sheath itself has a width of about 10cm and is around 13,5 cm long, made out of the layers of 3 to 3,5 mm veg. leather. But that might differ from sheath to sheath depending on what exactly you indend to store in it.
  21. For me a new kind of sheat to carry a knife and.... let´s say "stuff" with it I am quite happy with it. Hope you like it.
  22. wow that´s a really nice bag! I also think you should post more often. At least if such a beauty like this comes out
