allen, i mostly make leather masks and my favorite part is the painting...a mask can look pretty dull and boring until i get the airbrush going, then the mask comes alive!!!!

i wanted to buy a pair of slip on sandals but couldnt find anything to fit properly...i have a very big foot. so i thought i would try to make a pair for myself. i used the pattern as described in this post..http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=4999&hl=viking+shoes. i trimmed the back bit off so that they were slip on style. they took about 2 hours to make. you cant see from the photos but they have a sole and heel glued on...very comfortable..

tom, i dont have the range of choices that alot of you seem to have. i use a local product for stained leather, but for acrylics i just use a spray can of craft sealer. Gloss sealer that states it repeals moisture and dirt. i have used it on my masks for years and have had no problems. i just went to one of my first masks that i still have and tried to scratch off the paint...nothing came off!! i usually give a couple of coats..leaving to dry in between. I usually buy a good sealer from an arts shop.

hidepounder, the paint is acrylic, but it is promoted as being flexible and suitable for leather...never had any cracking or peeling. This airbrush paint is made locally in my home town.

big hugs barra....hope you have a good day.

welcome eryk, lots of great people here, hope you enjoy the site and look forward to seeing your work.

i have only used this technique with acylic paints..the lighter color goes on first, then the darker one. When sponged, the darker color lifts off, showing the lighter color underneath. i havent used it with stains as the result wouldnt be the same..the stain wont lift off. the sea sponge has a more random pattern and gives a more natural effect. good luck

i am looking to buy a strap end punch. the cheapest i can find on ebay or in australia is about $70AU plus shipping. i am looking for 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 inch punch. if anyone has one for sale and you have a paypal account, i would be most interested. The australian dollar is only about 68cents to $1 us at the moment so this is making a purchase costly.... i should have bought one 6 months ago when the AU dollar was about 96c.... thanks

what a wonderful time you must have had...any photos?...your creation is splendid!!! loving the 'hair' ...what did you use?
-
so beautiful, at first i thought it was a real feather glued on!!!
-
russell, our leather is measured in millimetres as a thickness. the leather i used was veg tanned calf skin. it was sold as 1.2mm, sometimes i use 2mm, but never any thicker as it is to hard to mold. cheers

very dark movie kate, but the machinery was fantastic. ray, that crazy mask is another great creation from the team at bob bassett. here is another one of theirs.
-
ray, they are not delicate at all. After the leather drys it become quite stiff, this makes them tough masks for kids and should last a long time. i use thin hat elastic in a double strand. two little holes on both sides. cheers

thanks for this john. what a wonderful evening you must have had. bobocat's work is outstanding. i would love to see him working.....

I was asked to make a couple of mask for a 2 1/2 year old girl! It was left up to me to decide what to make, so here they are. One crown and one butterfly.
