Pretty interesting stuff, but when in doubt I always check the Big Book. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 I believe that everything is derivative of something else, so no one has a right to claim any works as theirs. There is only one creator that can claim that. Just my thoughts.

Anyone Ever Send You A Pan That Is Far From Perfect
outcast replied to billymac814's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Billy, check some of the seats I did over at TCU. Jeepurz 8-ball bike...the seat is made on a piece of plywood. Also his #3 bikes seat pan was made out of an old stock one cut up. I did another one made from a rusty old stock seat pan from a cb750. Every one of those made me shake my head when I opened the boxs. You can make it work if ya have a mind to, & sometimes ya learn something new along the way. -
I feel for ya dirtclod, however I can see that since this thread has started that Weaver is making an effort to get it right. I paid $25 for shipping of just one (1) edger. Your situation indicates a slight improvement. I think they are trying to make it work for everyone, but there is quite a range of buyers to keep happy. Some spend $1,000.00 a month others not even that a year.

Do You Heat Your Creaser When You Make Creases?
outcast replied to chouinardragon's topic in Leather Tools
I never have, but if you can show me why I would want to I just might. -
David, all your seat's are top of the line. All your lacing looks fantastic, however IMO I don't think any your work needs decorative lacing. Your tooling can stand alone, & I feel the decorative lacing at times may detract from some of the finest tooling in the MC seat industry. I mean this only as a compliment. I would love to see a seat or two done by you without the deco lacing.

I just bought the machine awhile back & haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Have ordered a variety of thread sizes now I need some needles to match up with the thread & my machine. Can anyone give me a link to a source of needles for this machine?
-
No they did not give me a choice of shipping method. I did call them up & complained about the outrageous shipping cost, & told them it could have been sent in a $5 flat rat box. After listening to their defense, they did give me back 1/2 of the shipping cost ($7.50). They also told me that their new shipping policy is in their 2010 catalog, and I should be aware of it next time I order. From now on I will request shipping & handling cost before I give them any $.
-
Yep, I noticed it last week. I ordered a #2 edger for $23.90. It came in a tiny box, but the shipping was $15.00. I'm gonna call them next week & tell them they lost a customer because of their new shipping policy.

Would the new servo motor give me reverse?
-
OK I guess I should have looked at the machines a little closer. The guy I bought it from give me a slip of paper with those numbers wrote on it, said it was the model #, but after closer inspection of the machines I found a brass tag on the singer that is stamped 111w101, and the pfaff is stamped 85483-814/01-6/01 X4 8. I'm pretty sure the singer is for leather....not sure about the pfaff...might be for underwear.
-
Hmm, the last thing I want to do is make underwear......you mean leather underwear...thongs? Nah, still don't wanna go there. How versatile are these machines? I got these from a guy who is selling his shoe & leather repair shop. I would like to use one to make some tuck & roll leather motorcycle seats. Ya think an underwear machine can do that?
-
I don't know a thing about these machines except that they run good & are supposed to be able to sew leather. I did see the singer run & sewed through some 6-7 oz folded over...no problem sewing it. I paid $300 for the singer & was given the pfaff, a bench, some spools of thread, a flexible light thing, and a jar full of bobbins for the singer. The pfaff is supposed to be continuous thread whatever that means, and the singer has no reverse. So, I think I made out ok, but would like to more about these machines, what I can use them for, & what they might be worth. Did I do ok, or should I takem to the dump. Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Dammit, that was a good vent.

Neetsfoot Oil
outcast replied to Torquewrench's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use & recommend pure neetsfoot oil. Prime neetsfoot oil is blended with petroleum products, and will compromise the leather eventually. -
New To Leather. How Do I Replicate This Effect?
outcast replied to memper's topic in How Do I Do That?
For sure he does very nice tooling, and dying, but I think he uses Fiebings antique also. Busted Lifter is another seat maker who uses antique. I don't know how they seal it to prevent it from ending up on the seat of denim blue jeans tho. -
New To Leather. How Do I Replicate This Effect?
outcast replied to memper's topic in How Do I Do That?
If the antique was mixed with tankote wouldn't that help seal the antique into the blemishs & wrinkles? Then after seal with more tankote, or whatever, then pecards, or montana pitch blend to make it water resistant. David Theobald uses antiques all the time on his seats, and does a lot of them. Dave ... you there Dave? (cheesh & chong).
